I do. What I was trying to say is, Temptation gets overplayed at the club I go to. The DJ doesn't play TPK enough.

It's alright,good Hooky-bass opening.Me Julie says "ooh this is the one that sounds like the Cure" But not a song I would have pushed for single release.

Well, I wonder how long it took to write this out... Was it like some kind of primal scream therapy... You know, acknowledge the pain and then let go. Unless of course we just fell for a piss taking 
For me,due to quite a lot of posts championing it,I just don't get Turn whatsoever,just sounds like mediocre AOR to me,as does other tunes on WFTSC,especially Hey Now,What you Doing,which is as shite as the title suggests.
Plus,isn't the point of over-rated being lost a little? It just seems to me that people consider a song to be over-rated just 'cos they don't personally like it,songs seem to be being plucked out of thin air without anything to base the argument on.For instance,if Blue Monday was widely regarded as being a top song by fans,but not so by media critics,then it would be considered to be over-rated.Or am I twat?

Kel, you are spot on... Exactly what I was trying to get to when I started the thread. Like you say, it seems people seem to be getting sidetracked with personal likes/dislikes... maybe I should have started a thread which went something like "your bottom 10 NO songs" :)
Which is pretty much why I answered how I did, as "over-rated" is so subjective. There are songs I like, songs I dislike, and songs that in my opinion too much fuss is made over. Temptation is the clear winner on the latter in my book!

The real ones for me are BLT and Love Vigilantes... Too much is made of those. Actually think LV is a poor song regardless of whether it's rated or not.

I'd have said Love Vigilantes in an absolute stonewell classic. 
Is much made of BLT these days? Used to think it was such a stormer, but that pap they've played live for nigh on 10 years now just softens the impact somewhat for me. I mean, yes, it's intrisically the same song, but it's lost it's appeal ten-fold now that they've rejigged the arrangement to suit the 12".
Love Vig is one of my all time favourites.

Sorry guys, I just don't get it. I think that's what I was trying to get to when I was thinking of over-rated songs. Thought it was poor as soon as I heard when it LowLife came out. Some things either go in or not.
And hands off Tevez! Berbatov and Eto you're welcome to... But there was precious little joy at West Ham this season and Tevez was the sparkle that cheered everyone up

I don't actually feel like any are over-rated. It suprises me how much I still like Blue Monday, given how over-exposed that song is and that its not as distinctive as it once was, given how every other electronic dance track these days sounds like a remix of it. I do, however, occasionally wish Barny was a better lyricist. You don't listen to NO for the words, thats for sure, most of them are nonsense really and occasionally distractingly bad ('it beats arithmetic'? 'a land of meat'? 'you can't shaft when you are alone'?). Then again, there are _worse_ lyricists out there, I guess.

I agree with that totally. I think Blue Monday transcends what ANYONE might think of it- it changed music 
Oh yeah and Sumners lyrics always a few absolute howlers in there!

That's it exactly,& just how it should be viewed.I went thru' a period myself of almost fookin' hating it because of its' over-exposure,somewhere towards the end of the '80's,but then I just fell in love with it all over again,to the point where now,when I listen to it,I just feel so proud of what it represents,& it's a fookin' N.O. song.It's just so BIG.Worship what it stands for

I applaud your enthusiasm, but it didn't really, did it? Change music, I mean.
Kraftwerk had a no.1 in this country a year earlier with a track they'd written in 1977 so it's not like Blue Monday was breaking new boundaries. Or introducing a new kinda muzak to the masses.
More than anything, I just think Blue Monday has aged amazingly well, hence its critical acclaim. Whereas other early 80's electronica (and late 70's) has dated badly I think New Order's first stab at dance still sounds fresh as a daisy.
Depends what you mean by changing music? Was it innovative - probably not as the sound emerged from their forays into the dance clubs of the US and as you say Kraftwerk were doing this before (as were others). But did it bring a new style to a bigger audience in the UK - the answer must be yes. Look at all the dance musicians who say that Blue Monday was the track that got them into dance music.
