Crystal Lyrics and other clever things...

I know this was a topic ages and ages ago, but I intended to post about this at the time, and being me, totally forgot

So, sorry if anyone has explained this before, but it might be worth re-saying:

'Here comes love, it's like honey You can't buy it with money'

What Barney is saying is that love is like honey (sweet and good for you) BUT you can't buy LOVE with money. I always thought it was one of the more clever NO lyrics, but so many people said 'but you CAN buy honey with money'.

Just an observation. Anyone got some more NO lyrics that they think are particularly clever or amusing that they haven't posted on their profile?

Cheers all

Hmm, can I confess that it's only since I started looking at the song browser part of this site, that I realised that for certain songs, I've been singing the wrong lyrics at key parts, eg Bizarre Love Triangle in the 2nd verse where Mr Sumner sings "I'm not sure what this could mean, I don't think you're what you seem", for years I thought he was singing "I'm not sure what this could mean, I don't picture what you've seen" :\ohwell: & when I first heard Crystal for the first few months instead of singing "I don't know what to say, you don't care anyway, I'm a man in a rage, with a girl I betrayed", at concerts I was belting out "I don't know what to say, you don't care anyway, I'm a man in a ditch, with a girl I betrayed" :embarassed:

Everyone does that with songs Matt LOL. Thanks for that. The song browser here has been known to contain errors though - there's a correction thread somewhere, along the lines of the discography and live ones. The funniest thread on this subject was about what people thought Barney sang on Blue Monday

The old, shallow bay/ shall obey debate, who gives a toss!, just try to get some footage of the auto cue.

**perhaps we're a little too late for that!**

Barney hadn't got a clue what he was singing anyway - even with the autocue!

Definitely 'I can and shall obey'. The discussions of the 'ship in the harbour' were funny Jed :evil4:

He did once upon a time Sam. When you were 13 and not allowed out, I was being told I wasn't allowed out because someone's scooter had blocked the fire exit...

i have a question if someone were to throw something at barney while he was singing on stage,it is unlikely that he would chase after them, but it is for certain that he would start yelling right?

If it didn't hit him, he'd just carry on, then maybe say something. If it hit him and he couldn't see Otto, he'd stop. He'd never chase anyone. In the old days if someone threw anything that 'hit' then the rest of the band would carry on playing while Hooky and Rob 'sorted it out'. Nowadays, if something hit Barney - who knows. Maybe Hooky would bop him with it again...

But play fair, funny notion, but not lyrically orientated!

He's right, you can't buy love with money, but blow jobs are relatively cheap and just as good!

The REAL reason why you cant buy love with money is due to the fact that after shelling out for council tax, mortgage, water rates, food, petrol, train tickets, car loan, insurance, minimal credit card repayments, etc, etc............. theres bugger all left in the kitty!!!

What the hell do you feed your kitty???

I nearly hit him with an inflatable penguin at Brixton Academy on the Big World Cafe show and he didn't stop playing nor did Hooky kick the shit out of me. Although I do recall him getting very aggressive with some poor sod down the front.

Waiting for Burt Reynolds to reply and moan about me hitting him on the head with it earlier.... reckon it will take less than an hour.

Tick tock, tick tock...

Looks like you knocked Burt clean out mate :blackeye:

Thanks for the reminder. Always loved that performance. You really get the feel of what a great and innovative drummer Steve is. Barney's jeans, Hooky's Trackie bottoms, Steve's short haircut and Gillian, well... SO eighties. I remember what I was wearing at that time. Black. Yup, some things never change

in Ceremony,

for the 'world will travel' bit

once upon a time I used to sing TIME travel

now that would have been clever lyrics ahead of their time :\ohwell:

Waiting for the chicken’s call, for Rocket Mick

I want desert now My stomach really hurts now I need to get some takeaway

I’ve grown really wide …..

That’s all I have. Sorry been burning and transferring stuff from vinyl to digital with GFA all afternoon.

"Hey Joe, What ya doing?" seems a bit too much like the song after it =]

Ha! Get Digi Mike to dig out the Shed Songs lyrics - they reveal the true hidden genius of Barney's lyrics... If you dig deep enough you can find meaning in most things - at times NO lyrics can seem the most insightful things ever (usually when drunk... ), mostly they just (almost) rhyme...

Still talking about the first message of the thread, I always found kind of strange how Bernard several times uses this "BUY/LOVE" image. Check it out:

Vanishing Point: "He buys love to sell tomorrow"

World (The Price of Love) Well this is the most obviuos, it's even in the song title "that's the price of love (...) if we could buy it now (...)"

GIAUE "I need your love, I just wanna buy it"

'Vanishing' was written in circa 88, so this is really an old thing that didn't disappeared with time.

Maybe his yatch's name is "L.O.V.E"

Maybe he just likes hookers :ignore:
