Always interesting to see how some react to others "sacred cows", here some artists air their views on what many might consider "classic" albums, including Green of Scritti Politti on Arcade Fire, Alex from Franz Ferdinand on Marquee Moon, views of The Velvets, Sgt Peppers & Dark Side, etc.
Come to think of it, it has been years since I've played Meat Is Murder......
I found it funy how the bloke who hated LA Woman much preffered The Velvet Undergriund and Nico, and Ian Rankin hated VU&N and preffered The Doors.
And both of them listed a lyric of each album that "is the worst in rock'n'roll history.
Needed more Oasis that list did.

Funny thing is I agree with all of them, except the "meat is murder" album.
Great article - at least I now know I'm not the only one who thinks Tupac is the most overrated artist of the last 20 years. He just has a martyr status because of his early death. You have to pretend to think he's a genius to show you're down with hip-hop, though I think deep down everyone knows he's mediocre.
Totally disagree about the Stone Roses though.
Right on the mark about The Strokes.
Never listened to Captain Beefheart, apart from that track on NO's Back To Mine series.
Beefheart doubters should listen to Safe As Milk or The Spotlight Kid instead of Trout Mask Replica - way more accessible yet just as unique.
I'd sooner listen to Frank Zappa than Beefheart,but i would agree that 'safe as milk' is one of the more listenable Beefheart L.Ps

Hooky fair rips it it into The Beefheart, eh? I suppose it's fair, then, to assume that it wasn't the Bass Mechanic that chose Big Eyed Beans from Venus for the Back to Mine cd. It's a fair rant: even invents a new word!

zappa and beefheart were both unlistenable in my opinion,but i guess if you like jazz which i also think is shit u would probally go for it. on a side note i remember seeing beefheart in an interview in which they referred to his nemesis "zappa",to which beefheart replied "oh you mean that guy that looks like a flies leg". well it made me chuckle anyways.
I think Beefheart (named for his uncle's cock apparently), and Zappa are music for musicians. I

Zappa's a funny one.... His downright daft "comedy music" of the 60's and early 70's amuses me something shocking, love it, and there are some genuinely accessible things in there too, like Peaches En Regalia, son of mr green genes, king kong, as well as mental case pieces like yellow snow/st alphonso/etc. But his guitar hero stuff from late 70's and 80's is a pile of rancid horse vomit and turns my stomach.
If you doubt zappa... Peaches. Green genes Montana (which HAS to be heard for the squeeky voiced guy....for real, no electronics) And Dynamo Hum (a sensitive ballad about a girl who bet Frank $40[1] that he couldn't make her come.)
Yes the Mothers are all Motherfucker musicians, but Frank keeps them playing the same tune, so accusations of Jazz are a bit unfair.
