I remember Peely playing Temptation for the first time - happy days.
The fact that it was a 33 1/3rpm 7 inch (it was, wasn't it?) wouldn't have helped the sound quality either.

I can't understand why people say Temptation '87 sounds whimpy or plastic-like. Every time I turn it up to fill my room I'm enthralled all over again.
We should do a survey... which version you heard first.
Of course me it's Substance, hence probably why I prefer that version, it's the one I grew my love for the song to... so it's hard to beat.
I heard the substance version first although i initially hated the song and used to fast forward through the cassette to get to blue monday ![]()
The '82 12" is my favourite version. What everyone's complaining about are the reasons I like it: the tinny guitars, the weird snare drum effect, the rambling arrangement... everything they've done '85 on seems to have the verse-chorus-verse-chorus-break-chorus structure.
It's totally unique, there's nothing else that sounds quite like it.
