Remixes that changed the song entirely!

There are two New Order remixes that makes me wonder, where's the original song or bits of it? These are:

1. Temptation (CJ Bolland Mix)
2. 1963 (Lionrock Full Throttle Mix) (if you know more, then post it)

I mean, if an ordinary fan would listen to these tracks for the first time and without checking the titles, never in their wildest dreams that it is Temptation and 1963 by New Order. Unless for Temptation where he/she can guess it because the title is repeated a number of times when it was never really mentioned in the original song and the other versions.

So, what can you say about these remixes?

Well... for BLT Armand Van Helden Mix and Confusion Pump Panel Mixes, the beat changed, but the lyrics (at least a line for BLT) are still there. My old high school friend was able to determine these songs when I let him listen to my New Order stuff, but not Temptation and 1963. Its completely a new song.

Pump panel is not as different as you think, that great big fuck off acid riff used to be the boopybeepy arpreggiating thingymerbobber off the substance one if I'm right.

Anyway, that van helden mix is a disgrace, did he get paid for that? Interesting thing about 2/3 way through, the speeding up back to the original speed thing.

In general, mixes like this are "remix jazz", loads of fun for the mixer, pretty tragic for anyone who liked the tune to start with.

Both of those came out during the height of 90's DJ Wank, when most remixes bore little or no resemblance to their orignal form but name DJs got paid loads of money for cranking them out. That's why I quit DJing during the 90's.

Armand Van Helden was notorious for creating his remixes on the fly using his synth's internal memory and then destroying the sequence after he'd recorded it. That shows you just how disposable he considered them at the time.

Nah, Pump Panel is actually quite good. You just gotta be in the mood for that hard trancy type stuff. Plus it was in Blade so it automatically gets bonus points :D

Oh and don't forget Video 586 :)

I love that Pump panel remix- good hard aggressive repetition for 8 odd minutes.

Dave Clarke remix of EGG disappionted me a little as it was a case of my favourite DJ on my Favourite band. Clarke is an amazing DJ but not sure about his remixes... His Remix of Leftfield's Phat Planet is pretty good, especially as he cuts into one of his own tunes. But wasn't impressed with EGG :\ohwell:

PS. Actually quite like the Van Helden take on BLT too as I pretty much can't stand the original. Heresy, I know!

Yeah the pump panel mix is SOOOOOOO much better than the original or the Substance version. Its very clever too because when you first listen it just sounds just like the same repetitive rubbish for 8 minutes with no vocals.

But if you listen again carefully theres so many textures and different elements.

You are so right and so wrong all at once there.

The style has been totally obliterated, but they have played with and expanded the actual music content of the tune. Winebar house New Order, it's a wee gem.

I sometimes yearn to hear some real virtuoso take a crack at a New Order song.

Now that's the crap that I want to talk about! They made mixes, used a New Order song as a title even though the mix was totally different from the New Order song, and made money out of it. Its like they used New Order for their own personal fame and fortune.

The worst only was Disco 2 by the Pet Shop Boys almost at teh same era (1994). Absolute mierda.

any remix that loses any of the original song's integrity is crap. I second on the Rest Of being a piece of shite, but I think the Retro Cd with all the remixes is even worse crap. There should be a law on the # of remixes allowed...3 tops...I have 14 Blue Monday; 8 of BLT and a bunch of other songs that have 4-6 remixes....I can't get myself to throw it out, but out of all of them only 3 for each song (maybe)is actually listenable, the rest were a big wad of horse manure.

Don't give me more remixes, just give me more new/unreleased music, I'd prefer half-ass new/unreleased songs to kick-ass remixes.

Remixes are overrated crap.
