Just been looking at http://www.new-order.net/no/gigs/ and spotted a few interesting recordings.
Has anyone heard any of these, and can they recommend them?
1 March 1986 Spectrum Arena, Warrington, England (SBD)
19 July 1986 G-MEX, Manchester, England (FM) 4 November 1986 Palace, Hollywood, California (FM)
29 August 1993, Reading Festival (from BBC Transcription disc)
Or - better yet - can anyone recommend a source for lossless copies?
They're all a bit flat, that's the trouble with soundboards. No atmosphere. The Hollywood gig is one of the most boring ever.
Some of the best gigs are the early 'audience' recordings. Check out the Tolworth gig. Superb 
I appreciate the comments, folks, and I agree that audience recordings give the best "there on the night" experience, but there's method in my madness...
I have a friend who loves New Order but insists that they were shit live. We've argued about this for years, with me saying that even when stuff goes wrong it's funny, and that Barney's lyrical alterations alone make all it worth while, but to no avail.
So, I'm trying to compile a collection of live renditions of his favourite songs, in the hope that this will at least mean that he gives it a go. In order to minimise his initial resistance, I want to avoid audience recordings and only to select from numerous FM or soundboard bootlegs, and the rather fewer official live recordings. We can move on to the audience stuff if this works.
I also decided to make things easier (or harder?) by only selecting performances of songs from inside two or three years of their release. Saves playing thirty versions of Temptation back-to-back, if nothing else.
For example, I'm struggling to find a complete version of State of the Nation to include, which explains my interest in the shows from 1 March 1986 at the Spectrum Arena, Warrington, and 19 July 1986 at Manchester G-MEX.
Once again, big advance thanks for any help with these, or the others!

In all seriousness I have both of the gigs you mention in yer last post, but off the top of my head the sound quality isnae the greatest. Will dig em out after I get back from 5-a-side tonight.....or the morra. I could easily email copies of SOTN when I get them transferred.

Check out Milan Rollingstone 82 for storming versions of a few songs and compare it to the gig from Bologna from the night before... Similar set, although in a different order. One from the mixer and one from the audience. Might be a bit early, though considering your time "window"

No, 1982 is not too early. I'll be selecting from the start right up to at least the end of the Factory era, and taking in the Republic period too, if space allows.
I have the Milan Rollingstone 82 show, from which I will possibly select Procession - a strong, driving rendition, as I recall.
The thing with the Reading 93 BBC disc is that it was doctored for broadcast. There's some audience videoclips of the gig at YouTube. Hooky's playing in Round & Round differs from what appears on the BBC disc (a few Bernard bum notes at the end of Dream Attack were 'corrected' as well):

Warrington 86 on the other hand is a highly recommended gig just because of the performance of the band.

He doesn't, but that's another reason why I might not go as far as the Republic period for his live collection.

Oh i dunno .The FM broadcast has the classic bit where Barney says he's always wanted to be American because they get so excited (in response to some gal's non stop screaming)Always been a favourite bit of mine that one
State of the Nation on the Tube in '86 is probably the best live version of that they ever played. Easily found on YouTube.
