TBH I'm surprised you can stomach it round here at all these days with all the undiluted wank being talked about yer old man.

Dave's spot on though, when you stay sober for a while you do realise your mates are mostly total wankers. You also realise that most of their preferred activities are pretty retarded too.

The thing is....who the fuck told Legge what being sober is like?

I read Frank Skinner's autobiography and he pretty much says exactly that. Said when he eventually quit the booze he basically had to go and find a whole new set of friends. Not that he didn't like hios old friends, but just that he couldn't join in anymore.

He says that despite being completely teetotal for 20 odd years he has yet to find any other life experience which is as much fun as getting totally arseholed and that he misses it every day. A nice twist on the usual crap you read from recovering alkies about how much better their new life is.

And Jack if we don't know it all then get your dad to either tell us it all on his blog, or just 'return to a dignified silence', purleease...

in that point of view, i think you guys are right...everybody needs some rest. So if hooky wants to say something to the band, he should give them a call or mail them

What you guys want is for New Order to be like a fake marriage between two spouses who don't speak to each other, where the couple pretends to carry on with the marriage for appearences, silent fake forced smiles... for the sake of the kids, or in this the fans.. for the fans. This is stupid! New Order should only be a group if it is an actual group.

Show Hooky some respect, he seems like he has been very nice to a lot of you guys, it's not like he is happy about the situation.

Of course we all respect Hooky.

It's just (personally) I'm just not so sure him airing the band's dirty laundry in teen speak via an ultra-hip MySpace is the best way to do things. The music press and press in general have already taken some of his "frank" comments out of context resulting in probably more harm towards New Order as an entity in the long run than if he'd kept silent.

Last time I checked, Bernard and Steve weren't threatening costly, long drawn-out court action in a blog. Personally, I'd like to think Hooky was badly misquoted but the MySpace is there for all to see.

How's the boycott of the Barney/Steve incarnation of NO going by the way, PFOD?

Boycott was just a silly jest... it is just so sad to see the band becoming a joke/facade like most the other past their prime outfits. How to imagine how one could get terribly excited about anything forthcoming, whatever that may be.

They should manage it as a company. As Hooky says, it was only a company before the break without any personal relationsship, too. Why no more?

No we don't know what's going on. Either tell everything or don't tell at all.

Suspect all parties have some sort of legitimate axe to grind and I'm personally not interested in taking sides or "he said/she said" type carry on. It's unfortunate that friendships carved out in the schoolyard have ended up so embittered.

Most are probably wishing he'd would put a lid on it but let's not forget that the candid, upfront nature of Hooky has been a lifeline to NO fans over the years. As he suggests, Hooky's traditionally been the one doing the bulk of the interviews, the press, the appearances, providing some sort of conduit to the fans. It's his nature, for better or worse.

Hopefully all sides can agree to disagree, keep it inhouse, stick the band on 'permanent hiatus' for a while and let it all cool off. Then go record their own projects. If time can heal some of the rifts then perhaps there'll be some inclination to return.

jack, I'm sorry but you're wrong in this point. this is a forum where people discuss all things New Order, and the facts for all to see are that Hooky keeps posting offensive stuff on his MySpace-site over and over. Bernard and Steve made an official comment that they won't allow Hooky to say when it's over for them with a hint they won't make any other comment here. please decide for yourself what you think is better.

Imagine what would be going on here if Bernard had done this in reverse. and please don't try to stop people arguing here, because it's a forum not the official web site.

Are we allowed to say Hooky's blog last week was a bit 'silly'.

Is that acceptable with all the higher-than-thou types on NOOL?! :skeptic:

It was silly. And frankly just a bit cringeworthy. "I'll see you in court" indeed. Not the comments you'd usually associate with the Bass Legend. Proper toys out of pram scenario.

But, of course, no-one's allowed to say that are we. Cos we all know nothing.

The new development has reached the major german newspapers vesterday. Die Zeit says, New Order had split-up and Barney and Steve declared now, they would continue, but without Hooky. And Hooky wouldn't be happy with this and is going to go to the court, if they would continue without him.

Musikszene: Hook will Ex-Kollegen von New Order verklagen

Peter Hook, Ex-Bassist der Band New Order, macht ernst: Er will seine ehemaligen Bandkollegen verklagen.

2005 brachten sie ihr bisher letztes Album "Waiting for the Sirens' Call" heraus. (mit ddp)

I think personally the fans have been treated badly to be honest. Correct me if I am wrong but we are responsible for the wealth of Hooky, Barney, Stephen and Gillian, and if this is the end of New Order then all this myspace stuff and rumour and court threats to me is not a dignified way to retire the band.

The band owe it to us, for all the money and travelling that we have done over the years, to be a little more dignified and make a decision and be nice about it, because after all, if we didn't pay the money, they wouldnt have a band to retire from, cos no-one would have bought the records, or gone to the gigs.

I know its terribly sad situation, I will miss the band hugely, and right now I dont want to think about no having the opportunity to see them live again or hear a new track. But please guys, look after the fans, they are your bread and butter, and I think you owe it to us.

We dont know whats gone on, but I tell you what, I consider myself a private person, I dont have a myspace site, I dont air my personal issues on blogs, and i dont slag people off in the press. Hooky would have been better to not comment. Thats not to say I have anything against him, I adore all of them, for their faults as well as the good things.

Its just a very sad time. New Order hasn't really been the same since 93, you could argue that following the reunion shows in 98, when Gillian played a few gigs, that the band name should have been retired then.

nobody forced you to buy the music. you bought it because you got enjoyment from it.

The band more than repaid you the few pounds you expended on them.

again I have trouble with this concept that bands and artist owe their fans anything.

As I mentioned previously, that would never have happened. New Order are too big a name to let go whenever somebody leaves.

are you for real? New Order fans have got to be the most loyal fans a band could ever have, I've lost count of the gigs I have been to and the countries I have been in to see them play. Yes I did it cos I enjoyed it, but New Order always used to take pride in the fact they had such a loyal fanbase, who would go literally anywhere to see them play (no matter the cost, and I am quite a poor person I can tell you), so to have all this stuff over myspace etc isnt being fair on the fans, to be fair, its like throwing it back in our faces, when the best thing would be to say nothing. its easy to shut your mouth.

yes I am for real. you mentioned the money you spent and the good times you had doing so.

nobody force you to be a new order fan. remember the good times and don't go on about the band owing you.

this is new order, remember the band that doesn't give a shit.

i'm not happy about the situation, but i don't know the full story. do you?

I will refrain from apportioning blame. fook after 30 years they can each do as they choose in my book. yes I'm not happy about the blog comments either, but life goes on.

Matt Hicks wrote: .....The band owe it to us, for all the money and travelling that we have done over the years...... Matt.

Sorry, Matt, that was a silly statement....

The band had to write the songs, do the jamming, then record them in the studio & all those other associated stuffs involved in getting an album made & released...... and all the average fan needed to do was to walk up to the local music store and cough up $20 to $30 for all those hard work.....(and god knows how much of that money actually filtered into the band's pockets...)

When the band is touring, they too have their share of travelling and then all those soundchecks beforehand....plus performing, trying to please the crowd..... and all the average fan needed to do was to rock up to the concert venue, etc....

My point is the band worked a lot harder for what your money's worth. The band doesnt owe any fans anything and vice-versa.

By the way, New Order is Hooky's band so I think he deserved every right to do what he wants or say what he like about New Order. I just have to be grateful that New Order has gone on for as long as they have and released as many albums as they have.....(eventhough the last few has been a bit on the crappy side :D )

hooky does not owe us anything; and quite a few of you are acting like asses. if anyone has any faults here it is that tempermental ex punk rock guitarist. your banging on hook's leg becasue he gives you some information? this has been going on since 1989 or so. who cares what the exact details are. i wish they could get along better, but quite frankly we have been dropped hints for years that bernard and peter do not have a personal relationship.

i'll take one DJ session in houston this month and 3 bassists singing with robbie williams.

As Gary Numan once said.

I have no sympathy whatsoever for anyone who thinks I 'owe' them an album. I don't work for them. I'm not employed by them. If I put out an album and they don't like it they won't buy it. They have a choice. I also have a choice not to write another song for as long as I live.

 I'll echo the comments made about what the band owe you... they owe you me and everyone else bugger all. You spent you money to own a CD or to see them live and you got just that...there was no small print that said you now have the right to own them and have them do as you wish forever.

So you don't own a myspace site or post a blog ... that's your choice just as it's Hooky's choice and anyone else's to do that or do the opposite.

Also how exactly are the fans being badly treated? Because you don't like what is being said??? You have expressed you opinion on this matter by making this post...just as Hooky has expressed his opinion on the situation, a situation that He is far more involved in than any of us are.
