I think one of our Northern Brothers or Sisters, should attend Mr Wilson's funeral.
It's a family thing and not for hordes of fans, but we should send one viking, to pay all our respects to the legend that was Tony Wilson.

To be honest, I think it's an awful idea, Cambo, but then we don't know what format the funeral is likely to take, do we? It's his family's choice. He had more than enough close friends and family I should've thought to I'd have thought this was pretty much a closed shop.
Tony de Vit's family threw an open house so a couple of mates of mine drove up for that. There was maybe 400 clubbers stood outside a church in the black country somewhere mourning his loss. Surreal.
got to say i agree with el jarvo, at times like this its a family affair, their wishes and feelings are first and foremost, butif they have it open to the general public then yes it would be nice to have people there who though didnt really know the man personally admired him greatly, at the end of the day im pretty sure his family know the high regard he was held in despite the name calling that he was often greeted with.

Tony de Vit was a legend of a DJ who put trance on the map before every s***e DJ and his dog killed off that scene. I only saw his set only once but it was a great night with Tony certainly being up for putting on a good night and taking time out for the people who came out to see him rather than the in it for the money DJ's who don't give a f*** about the crowd. Another sad loss!

I personally think it would be a nice tribute for us all to read a bit more.
Sensible suggestion Sam. Donations can be made via Paypal - just need a place to send them. Flowers seem pointless as they're no good to anyone. Representative would be a nice idea, but I think it would be too intrusive for a 'family affair'.

Well I wasn't proposing to crash a strictly family only funeral, rather to limit the intrusion if it were a more public affair.
Anyway, I think Sam's idea is far better.
But maybe someone could lay some flowers at the grave for us when all's said and done.

If individuals want to make donations they should do something off their own backs. You don't have to 'tell' everyone else you're doing it and chip in to some huge melting pot saying 'look what I've just done'. Donations from individuals are worth a billion times more (if not in currency, than certainly in sincerity) than a donation which comes via a named 'website' - what's the worth in that at the end of the day? Sorry if this sounds harsh but I'm lost as to its value, or indeed purpose?
Let's just hope Tony's wife, or someone from his immediate family announces a memorial fund, or indicates which charity(ies) Tony would've appreciated donations for, and then we can all give as generously as we please to honour AHW's passing in some way, and say Thank You (as individuals - that word again!) for the memories.
True Al, but there's the option to donate anonymously on the Christies' site and if people wish to do so, then it's up to them. However, as the best known NO/JD and therefore Factory-related site, people want to collectively 'do' something - not to gain praise, but in some way, out of respect or whatever. I don't think Mr Wilson's family will post here nominating a charity, so maybe people here can do what they see as being their own little 'something that matters' ? It wouldn't do any harm...

I agree for donations, you are right, though NOOL day managed to get some funds for Cancer.
But the idea of letting the family know New Order fans care is not a bad idea either. Though they must know already of course, and nothing we do will change a thing about that.
Anyways, if somebody organize that, I'll participate, otherwise I will pay tribute my own way.

I think Cambo's initial idea isn't so bad. A ton of people might be intrusive, but one rep wouldn't...as long as the guy/girl isn't acting like an idiot about it. I give a to the idea.

If you want to send a card, flowers or a donation, or even turn up at the funeral, then do it under your own steam. Don't shout about it. Everyone deals with grief in their own personal way and nobody, but nobody here, is gonna grieve on behalf of me through some 'collective'.

The point is, that one, person/wreath/donation is a lot less intrusive and invasive for Tony's family that 10,000 individual ones. There are a LOT of people here who would like to extend sympathies in some way or another, what I was attempting to propose was that we limit our irritation to his family, rather than have each of us show up/send flowers/whatever.
But if you want the poor sods spammed to death, work away mate, that's your call.
PS: For the record, I was not proposing that this be done in the name of NOOL, I tend to agree that that would be more than a bit lame.

Or if it's not in the name of 'NOOL' as you've just said, then in whose name do you suggest? I fail to see where the common ground lies otherwise. Think your numbers are a bit out, Cambo. I can't see that many people going out of their way to send a wreath or actually physically go the funeral. In fact, I imagine there must be only mebbe 10 people that actually knew him who regularly post on here, if that. Any contribution from here should be limited to donations to a cancer charity, and not one that should allow for individual trumpeting on these pages.
Does anyone have any details of the funeral arrangements? If so, please don't post them on here. Funerals should be private IMHO, i.e. let his family and friends grieve properly.
Surely, with Manchester's recently rediscovered adoration for the man, he will be granted some kind of memorial service, which no doubt will be a more light-hearted free-for-all affair, to celebrate his life, rather than mark its passing.
Funerals are rubbish anyway. Wouldn't catch me at one unless I was specifically asked to attend.
Nothing fucking sadder than a pop fan (never mind 10,000 of the bastards) trying to muscle in on their idol's private lives.

Well I thought it would be "in the name of" errrm a bunch of people who love the band he brought us, if in the name of anything at all.
I see your point however that things like this are extremely personal by their very nature.

Well, if we needed total agreement for everything we want to do here, nothing would ever be done. But wouldn't be a bit of lack of consideration just do not do anything in this case? Not like it would make difference, but the site is about Tony too. At least a note in the front page of the website?
