Why are people getting so precious about The Killers?

They're a decent pop band, the kids love 'em, their song only appears over the credits, who cares. Million times better than most of the manufactured pap that rules the charts these days.

Having them on the record probably makes the soundtrack viable and gives it a chance of turning a buck. And with any luck it may turn a young listener onto the superior bands on the album.

...and even then, Depthy, it appears in the latter part of the end credits after Atmosphere, well after all but the most devoted nosepickers have scarpered to the lobby for their choctops - so what I mean to say is, it's not exactly an obtrusive presence in the film.

If so-called unworthy covers of JD tracks offends so many folks round here, why were there so many entries on Community I and II? Trust me, there was some fairly dire shite on there. CTB

Exit and Get Out - isn't that the same thing??!! I suppose it shows where their thinking has been recently.

Joy Division Fest 24 August 2007 Joy Division's classic single 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' is to be re-released next month. The song, probably the band's best-known track, was Joy Division's final single which was released before the death of frontman Ian Curtis in 1980. It reached number 13 in the charts upon its initial release, and re-entered in 1983, reaching number 19. It was re-released in 1995, where it hit number 19 yet again.The entire Joy Division back catalogue is also set to be reissued with extra material next month. Both studio albums - Closer and Unknown Pleasures - will feature additional CDs of live material, and the live/rarities compilation Still will also feature additional material.The revival coincides with the release of Anton Corbijn-directed biopic based on Ian Curtis's life, 'Control', which is released on October 5th. Pitchfork reports that another documentary based on the band, entitled 'Joy Division', will also premiere at the Toronto Film Festival next month.Joy Division Oven Gloves, anyone?

"Exit", "Hypnosis" and "Get Out" are all named after the scenes where they are featured - "Exit" and "Hypnosis" are obvious - "Get Out" is featured during and after the final talk Ian has with Debbie, when he yells at her to "GET OUT"!

Incidentally - for those in London - there will be a special preview of "Control" at the BFI Southbank (formerly the National Film Theatre) on October 4th. Tickets are available to non NFT/BFI members from Sept 7th and are £8.60 each.

I'm still curious as to why they've replaced Joy Division's "No Love Lost" with "Dead Souls" on the album - the only time "Dead Souls" was played in the film was by the cast. Ok - "No Love Lost" was featured without the vocals, but it was in the film.....

Interesting. However, as both Joy Division and New Order have covered Sister Ray, surely that would have been the better choice of the Velvet Underground tracks to choose from.

I enjoyed the scene in the film where they're recording 'Isolation'. You obviously hear the 'natural' version, i.e. before Martin Hannett's superb post-production work. I think either version (assuming the former exists) should have been on the album.

It made me laugh when Bernard switches off the monitor output on the mixing desk, after Martin kicks him out the studio for being noisy! I bet this really happened!

I agree with earlier comments about how nice it was to hear Autobahn, especially that part of the track, which was incredibly far ahead of anything else at the time (what a bassline!). Perhaps it should have been played when you saw JD 'on the road' driving south.

It seemed a bit obvious when Atmosphere was played near the end - at the same point in the story to when '24 Hour Party People' played the same track. They could have chosen other 'melancholy' tunes, e.g. Eternal.

Top film, but a bit sad.

Well I'm starting to like the Killers version, and I think I may just about qualify as a JD/NO fan in the eyes of some.

Best thing about the soundtrack is that it has made me rediscover John Cooper Clarke again - Word of Mouth is now on iPod repeat play!

I thought the synths sounded a bit seaside end of pier organish in that scene!! Still good though.Annik looked particularly beautiful sitting there listening, too

Was that actually a cover version of Autobahn in that scene? It sounded fresher and different to the Kraftwerk original... Don't think it was 'The Mix' mix either.Not got the soundtrack but had a listen on the Control website and it's the original Kraftwerk version on there

I agree , it seemed too obvious to have Atmosphere at that point.Could have done with something else, a new 'melancholy' incidental music?

Loved the movie. Please, can anybody say, which song is playing almost at the beginning of the movie, after 'sex pistols' gig, when "Ian" is on the street, going to work, lighting a cig and then HATE appears written on his back? the rhythm is not similar to Transmission, at first glance I thought it was the song, but no : /

yes yes, that's the song! thank you very much Burt Reynolds, indeed. i tried all the songs i had and the reason i didn't find it was that i don't have "No Love Lost". it wasn't on any of their albums (well, those 2), was it? it is beautiful.
