lOVELY to see DRIVE IN SATURDAY.Always been a BOWIE fan and this is a BRILLIANT track.Even I was YOUNG when this was MADE. Interesting ALL round though.

My guess on "Hypnosis" is that is the background music for when Barney tries to hynotize Ian (to get him out of his funk), is this in the movie?

Er...I thought that the soundtrack was going to be done by Barney Pete and Steve as JD? I guess JD but still called NO....so are these the last ever new NO tracks ever???

Given this list is true----I like the tracklist so far----with the exception of the Killers cover. (I have nothing against the idea of them liking New Order---after all, they took their name from the 'Crystal' video, but I hate their music.)

So, I'll probably refuse to listen to the Killers track, but I'll be listening to the other tracks, though.

Even though I like the Killers, I was a little hesitant when I heard they were going ot cover Shadowplay for the soundtrack. It just did not seem to fit the music they write. Soundwise, I can see why They would play the song (being influenced by New order, Like so many of this groups). I would have picked Interpol or The national myself.

Having said that, I had a chance to see the killers live in Florida this year. And they did play a live version of their remake of shadowplay.

Result: I was pleaseantly surprised. I have to see how the album version ends up sounding like.

I have to admit, I cannot help but to feel a little down this days. It is so hard to talk about Joy Division and New Order without thinking... F$%^& they broke up!!!! :(

The new tracks are interesting and I'm looking forward to hearing them again in isolation.

There was a bit of a discussion about them here.

There's very little in the way of vocals on them although I think one had some speech samples floating through it ala the Peter Saville Soundtrack.

As for the earlier version of the soundtrack, I'm not sure whether there'll be two versions or just the new one as per above. This was the original tracklisting:

Probably just some discrepancy between what was heard in an early cut and what is getting a formal release.

Steve was probably still pasting the loops together on his Mac at midnight before the Cannes premiere.

Can't complain that they scrapped most of the cast covers and replaced them with the NO incidentals and Kraftwerk.

Yes, it is. I saw the film on Sunday in Edinburgh, I actually remember thinking that the music in that scene was really good so it's nice to find out that it's one of the new NO ones rather than something else that I just didn't recognise.

Really good film by the way, audience reaction seemed overwhelmingly positive.

Some notes from JD Central on the soundtrack:

The three New Order tracks are the instrumental tracks used in the last third of the film. They consist of Hooky's trademark bass lines, some sparse drumming from Morris, and Sumner playing what sounds like a flute sound on a mellotron - not particularly in the style of Joy Division, as was previously mooted.

The tracks are not in the order of how they appear on the film.

James Anthony Pearson confirmed at the film Q & A that it is the cast version of Transmission that appears on the soundtrack album.

John Cooper Clarke's track was recited live by the man himself on set - Anton Corbjin chose him as "he is the only person who looks the same as he did 30 years ago - in fact he's probably thinner".

Two strange things about the soundtrack -

Both here and on the film credits "Sister Midnight" is mentioned. Unless it was playing quietly in the background I cannot recall hearing this in the film.

One definite error - the inclusion of Joy Division's "Dead Souls" - the version of "Dead Souls" in the film was played by the cast, and the genuine Joy Division songs in the movie are LWTUA, Atmosphere (both featured here) and No Love Lost (strangely absent).

I thought there was a rumour at one stage that the Control Soundtrack was going to bundle in the leftover tracks from WFTSC. I guess we can forget about that now.

The reissue of Joy Division's Substance CD with a bonus DVD of HATYM has been cancelled too. All the interesting releases seem to be going by the wayside.

Indeed, nice to get a bit of KW in there, it certainly is an important part of the story musically and fits in well with the film. When myself, the LadyB and DC saw Control a few weeks back, our reviews (via DC's link above) discussed one of the NO instrumentals (presumably 'Exit') as:

I'm not a Killers fan (in fact I don't like them) by the way, so just looking at the soundtrack listing, if the soundtrack is released with those exact same tracks, I for sure, will be skipping the Killers track.

But that's just my opinion, and of course, after the soundtrack is released, we all have the right to listen to whatever tracks we wish to.

Jeez, whats all these bad raps about the Killers..duh!

I'll be seeing them live in November. And next month I'll be seeing NIN, hopefully Steve's remixed bits get an airing.

Btw, I just saw Fat Bob & The Cure a fortnight ago - absolutely awesome, 3-hours plus of gothic drone including many rarely-played tracks from early releases...very unlike the karaoke-roadshow of some Mancunian trio churning out standard setlists for every recent gigs, ouch..

I've found a lot of people like the Killers version of Shadowplay. Mind you, they aren't New Order or Joy Division fans persay so they aren't partial/snobby about it.

Nah, those are probably old songs that they've recorded that didn't make it in any of the albums or B-sides of the singles.

Let's just hope, even though it didn't made the cut on their albums and/or singles, the tracks would be... good.

Why are people getting so precious about The Killers?

They're a decent pop band, the kids love 'em, their song only appears over the credits, who cares. Million times better than most of the manufactured pap that rules the charts these days.

Having them on the record probably makes the soundtrack viable and gives it a chance of turning a buck. And with any luck it may turn a young listener onto the superior bands on the album.
