Run Wild - 'Should Have Been A Single'???

It would have been a awful choice for a single, I never listen to it. I try to ignore Rock The Shack, Slow Jam and Working Overtime as well !

A good example of just how out of touch Bernard has been (drugs? ego? lack of perspective?). He seems to think that those crappy female backing vocals he likes to tack onto New Order tracks are just pop music gold.

What would be the demographics for this song? I guess he thinks he would be bigger than James Blunt or something. Sure, Bernard can try to write a song like that, he is allowed to give it a go but song is kinda inane and not exactly a classic pop toon.

More proof, if we ever needed it, that he's lost the plot. Probably just as well they've finished, how shit would any new material have been?

I'm actually very surprised at the reaction to 'Run Wild' on this thread. I think it's the standout track on the otherwise overproduced Get Ready....and a beautiful way to end the album off. At the time I was even hoping that this would be hinting at a new sound & direction for the band.

Run Wild is probably one of the more honest sounding New Order tracks....in the same vein as Every Little Counts and Leave Me Alone. I think it would have made a great single!

Barny's judgement seems to have slowly deteriorated over the years. Run Wild is probably the one NO track I can find no merit in whatsoever - even Rock The Shack I don't mind, as long as one forgets it's New Order and ignores the dodgy lyrics, musically its got a bit of energy at least. And I rather like Jetstream.

If it had been a single, though, how many of you would have bought it anyway, just out of completeness?

Otherwise overproduced? Run Wild is the most overproduced track on the record!

That said, though, it is pretty, and the non-fans I know who've heard Get Ready seem to like it. Barney may be right about that one.

oh dear, I'm one of the few who actually like run wild! I like it in the same vein as the other fan favourites eg leave me alone. a soulful, poignant song for me. (and i ignor the final rhyming couplet!)

I Don't see what all the fuss is about. It's a mellow enjoyable tune and certainly more listenable to me that most of the songs on "Get Ready." To each his own...

He must be taking a piss???? But what is it with Barney and those crappy backing vocals??? The only good backing vocals were Gillians, and everyones else is crap. Granted a few songs made well use of them, but if Gillian were singing them, it would have been ace.

Run Wild really is a forgetable track....definately not single quality. It simply would have been one of those songs on the "Singles" complilation that has you scratching yer head thinking "They released this, I don't remember that????" as it wouldn't have gotten any radio play.

Run Wild is probably my all-time favorite New Order 'mellow' song. but then, I probably wouldn't like the idea of this song being a single.

Just like other 'mellow' NO songs, Your Silent Face, Sooner Than You Think, Every Second Counts, Everyone Everywhere, etc..., I prefer these to just be retained as an album track.

I love Run Wild, it's one of my favourite things NO have done.

No idea how it would have done at a single. Short of a bit of 'top tickling' like Osborne did, no mixing is really possible with a track like this because it's a ballad with a start, middle and an end. I think it's really well balanced track. I love the bass/harmonica interplay but the song wouldn't benefit from any more of it, it's just right as it is. Like the best Smiths songs, when it's over it's over - no way to stretch it out. So not sure what a single release would have achieved, it wouldn't get much radio play and no one would have bought it, but when do they ever?

Mind you, I love Jetstream and WIM too, so it just goes to show: you're all wrong

However big a booboo they made with the singles from Get Ready pales into insignificance next to the mess they made of the Siren's singles which, as everyone knows, should have been "Waiting for the Siren's Call", "Jetstream" and "Turn" in that order.

Worse single, how about worse album "Waiting for the Siren's Call". I must have only played a couple of times. Just couldn't get into it.

i knew there was about 5 or 6 on that album that i never got round to playing. that's probably one of them i think.

I'm sure Barney was taking the piss out of it. I remember him asking the audience at Finsbury if they wanted to hear whether "Rock the Shack" or "Blue Monday". And, of course, the answer was obvious, so Barney did know what to ask And the same is here. A safe joke.

I really couldn't stand Barney as much nowadays. Run Wild is such an anomaly, and the second half of Get Ready sucks.
