Was never mad on this song,the backing vocals give the air of being sung around a camp-fire with cub scouts.It was only saved by Barney's Melodica and Hooky's bass kicking in near the end. Must admit I've just played all the NO I-tunes Originals today,and it's a much better version,I see it in a better light now. Quite good re-recorded versions on there,though Love Vigilantes should have been left alone.

Most of their choices for singles are songs that will receive play on dancefloors and can be remixed to encouraged for DJ playing, which was considered their strength market wise. Hard to argue, especially world wide.
What makes me really cringe about "Run Wild" with some of the lyrics, jesus reference, and the lame backing vocals, is that the song sounds sorta like the shallow crap that some person says when they come out of rehab or their life has hit rock bottom and they are now all touchy-feelly religious... kinda pathetic and embarrassing.
I really thought Run Wild sucked the first time I heard it. Actually, from 2001 up until 2005 I thought it was possibly thier worst tune ever....
Then I heard them play in Chicago in 2005 and it actually sounded pretty nice.
Since then it has really grown on me. its got a nice melody. Good chill out song.
I don't think it would have been a good single at all.
But I do think its a very pretty and melodic song. Its by no means a religious song.....its sort of about loving someone and wanting to hold onto them, not letting go even when they die. I think thats very sweet. The line "When Jesus comes to take your hand, I won't let go" is pretty good in terms of expressing not wanting to let go of someone.
I don't think its the song where Barney reveals himself to be a holy roller.
Plus...the song ends with that great couplet:
"I'm gonna live till I die I'm gonna live to get high!"
Thats classic daft Barney right there, hah hah.
I sort of think that all of Get Ready has one prime lyrical theme to it...
Which is growing old rather disgracefully.
I mean...Crystal is about..uh.......breaking easy, being fragile, but still wanting to keep "it" coming....
Primitive Notion is about..uh.....like magic potions and stuff.
Slow Jam is about going o ut on your boat and getting drunk under the sun..
Close Range is about your high school buddy who has turned into a useless druggie....
Someone Like You is about..er.......meeting or taking something that makes ya feel liek your old self...
Run Wild is about....um.....living someone...not wanting them to die...and then getting high.
Its deep shit. Deeeeeeeep maaaaaan.

I also noticed that Nic mentioned that only two singles were released from 'GR' - Crystal and 60 Miles An Hour... What about 'Someone Like You'? 
I really like Run Wild. It is a beautiful tribute to his daughter. Granted, I don't get the "get high" reference, but the song shows that Bernard can scale everything back and just make a simple, yet melodic and beautiful song. For all those friends of mine that hate NO (and Bernard in particular) because they feel they don't "play instruments", it is an example of a back-to-basics kind of song that shows that he does, indeed, have talentand can play a guitar. It is a beautiful song. JMO

In my humble opinion, it's the best CLosing track they've produced since "Leave Me Alone", but it's still not single material...the remix on the 5th disc of Retro is very good though.
