I just bought Get Ready on vinyl so I started to listen to it once again recently. It's a very good album, much better than WFTSC, which I don't listen to at all. Get Ready has, as I see it, a "mature" New Order sound and still blows me away.
I mean, it's more accurate if they produce pop/rock songs instead of manchester groove songs like Jetstream. Get Ready put them once again on the map, WFTSC erased it. Acutally it's the album that I listen to most of them all these days.
I can understand Barney liking this song as he worte it about his daughter.
It has some decent bits to it but is not really one of the GR highlights for me.
However, the reason I always skip from SLY back to Crystal can be summed up in just 2 words.

Ana Matronic and the Jonathan Ross show appearance were the things that finally made me detest Jetstream. First couple of listens, I didn't mind it at all, as I said when I reviewed it. Just the live vocal performances were so utterly appalling that the song has been permanently spoiled for me.
Then again, who am I to talk - I seem to be one of the very few who like 'Shellshock' and 'SOTN' 
It always seemed to me if some NY DJ had picked up on Run Wild immediately after 9/11 then it would have stormed America. Still none did, and it didn't.
My gran died shortly after Get Ready was released and I played this tune constantly following her death. So those of you who criticise it can politely fook off...

'Run Wild' sounds like something that even Electronic would have ditched in favour of at least a few average tracks. Thank goodness New Order didn't release 'Run Wild' and were good enough to leave it to the end of 'Get Ready' - at least I can just turn the album off after track 9...
Must say the iTunes version is a lot better though.
Can't put my finger on why, but it just is.
They didn't release a 3rd single off Get Ready anyways... and logical choice would have been Primitive Notion (or Turn My Way for North America)...

I am convinced that part of the reason that JET sounded so awful on Jonathan Ross was because there was too much guitar on it. Phil played guitar instead of keyboards...it just didnt sound right. If you listen to New Order playing JET live from the Canal + show or Chicago 05..where Phil played his synth parts and Barney was actually in tune...the song actually sounds quite good.
JET has kinda cheesy lyrics sure....but its got an awesome hook and melody and is very catchy. I love it. Plus...I do like the line "Its been so long since I made you cry".
I really like this song. But I definitely don't think it should have been a single. The opinions from New Order fans alone prove that.
Would have been interested to hear a Xenophobia mix of Jetstream.That production team was mooted pre WFTSC
i think its a decent song even with the jesus references. It reminds me of some of their brotherhood era tunes. I'm glad it wasn't a single because the christian rock cult would of adopted NO for their cause.
Just dug out the Jetstream CD with the U-MYX facility on.It's fookin ace this !!! wheh hey!!! Making some acapella mix and Hooky + Synth only mixes

I think one of New Order's great weaknesses is their lack of choosing good singles from their albums. Run Wild would have been another example. Technique should have had any or all of Vanishing Point, Mr. Disco, and Dream Attack. Get Ready should have given us Primitive Notion. Low Life should have had Sooner Than You Think. You can go on really.
Horses for courses, but I think one of their main weaknesses, after 1986, was releasing single versions of songs that were on the albums.

I read somewhere that the first single off Technique should've been Vanishing Point, not Fine Time. I forgot the reason why... I don't know even why Fine Time became a single.
