You'll have fun with this!

Basically, it can be split into four parts:

  1. Factory era
  2. Warners with Rob Gretton
  3. Warners with Prime Management
  4. Present Day

and then again into different continents for each era

  1. Factory era (1978-1992). The key mottos for the band in the UK were: "Less is more", "Don't Go South", "Don't Do Interviews", "Not a word to anyone", "dark and mysterious". "No singles on albums". For Europe, it was very similar on many counts, but they were at least prepared to do a few TV appearances here and there. For the US, it was a case of touring every time there was an album out, local radio everywhere.

  2. Warners with Rob Gretton (1992-1999). Similar to above, but with more marketing gimmicks, names on record sleeves, remix CDs at the same time as singles, singles on albums etc. No UK/Europe tours, but one US tour that broke them despite only being relatively short.

  3. Warners with Prime Management (1999-2006). Billboard publicity, marketing gimmicks, remixes, TV appearances, interviews galore. Tours. Festival dates. Ignoring US besides four shows. No record sales.

  4. Present day - band splits just as there was a big opportunity to capitalise on the old JD stuff. Musicians eh, no logic when it comes to making money!

And this is where Saville got the "how cool is coldness" quote from (in NO story). No doubt some find the whole review pretentious to begin with.

price, place, promotion and product?

what would new order know about all that. :evil4:

Wow! What a interesting paper that will be.

The Factory era will be the really interesting part - no plugging, no adverts, sleeves with no names but we all knew it was them. Saville genius? Wilson's political experiment?

Loved the quote from Section 25 in the recent BBC4 documentary that "Factory didn't release records - they let them escape".

Somewhere between the 2 lies the reality I guess.

Play at Home back in '84 (?) would also be a good source.

Are you going to share your paper with us?

It actually seems pretty scathing.

Have a look at this, nothing you probably don't know already but great to watch Tony Wilson tell the story

Old Monkey I was fascinated by your information - you seem to know a lot about the band?

This was a good post. you know I watched Control and now I care about the music too... i should confess i suppose... RE: MARKETING TO the subculture of New Order fans.

I tried to 'market' the Ian Curtis suicide video here. (actually this site was the number one referral link before it was shut down - i find it interesting that i havent been banned)

I'm sorry. I was asked to do it by other marketers and I had trouble with the whole concept, but I did it anyway and now... and now... after reading about your GENUINE passionate enthusiasm... I begin to see that this domain isnt like all the other forums. I am truly sorry for tarnishing my name here. And my reputation.

You guys all really care about this musuic and this band for one reason or another... its comforting in a way.

You didn't actually think people took your "Ian Curtis suicide" video link seriously, do you? Give us some fookin' credit! Sure, people looked, to see what the fuck you were on about, seeing as you don't seem able to structure a sentence that makes sense in English. Three people or whatever it was running round the back of a house and looking through the window. Big deal.

You don't have a name here to tarnish. I'm sure if you want to be banned though, all you need do is ask the webmaster. Or better still disappear back up yer own arse.

Sorry folks, but this guy has lit a touchpaper.

Well. Who the fuck does he think he is? First post is to spam us with a bogus link to a "fake suicide video", then comes on here to almost brag about it and draws further attention to what was worthless in the first place, and then goes on about his reputation on here? One spam post doesn't warrant a reputation! The bloke's a grade A twat, and with Liam here the twat zone is already full :evil4:

Right behind you! You put it so well I had to applaud

Correction. He first posted with this classic conversation starter:

Control is making music fans remember Joy Division and the tragedy of an epileptic rock star. The movie presents the medication as a major obstacle to Ian Curtis's happiness - but I'm forced to wonder if it wasn't also the right combination of chemicals in his brain that created 'Love will tear us apart, again'

Do you think Ian Curtis would have been a better or worse musician if he wasn't an epileptic?

Very tasteful.
