...had never heard New Order before, which song would you play to them so they 'got' the idea of what New Order were about?
Which song would you avoid like the plague in case it put them off New Order for good?

J-E-T..
And the one to play would prolly be TPK, cos it sorta covers everything.
I'd recommend Age Of Consent and would probably say avoid Jetstream... not that it would pout off a new fan but simply because it isn't consistent with their total body of work.
True Faith or Temptation. Those tend to be non-fan favorites. That's from personal experience with people who hang around me enough to have to put up with it.
Bit hard to sum up in one song though, isn't it? Diversity is the beauty of New Order.
Perfect Kiss is the obvious answer, I guess - so much going on in just one song. Kitchen sink an' all.
Dunno what the fuss is about Jetstream. I thought it would've been one of the easier routes into New Order for the uninitiated.
Same goes for World in Fabulous Motion.
Keep a newbie away from some of the more esoteric numbers though: the likes of Doubts Even Here or some of their darker dirges.
Agreed that it's really hard to sum up in one song...
If anyone is still round at mine when the NewOrder records come out at 5 in the morning and I play one then it's usually Crystal but quickly leading on to Regret, Temptation, sunrise, Confusion...
If they're still around after that lot then it's usually time to get the whiskey and Movement out ![]()
There's so much bad stuff about (Touched By the Hand..., SubCulture, Shellshock) that I'd leave it for another day ![]()
Crystal and True Faith are both the most radio-friendly of their rock and dance tracks. So I'd probably go with those. True Faith got me into the band after all.

Who hasn't heard of the story of Bizarre Love Triangle?
Whenever people ask me my favorite artist, obviously, I would say New Order. If they don't know it or haven't heard of it, I'll play this track in my phone and say... "ahhh! I've heard of that!"
I haven't encountered anyone who does not know that track. But then, if ever I encounter one, I would play TPK. It is the complete New Order song.
On the other question, I will never play Haystack or Working Overtime.![]()
Indeed*!*
I think you could choose BLT, True Faith, WFTSC (yep!), Crystal or Regret and you would sum up most of New Order in one track.
Avoid World In Motion like the 'kin plague.

I would play True Faith. The Perfect Kiss is good, but too long for the uninitiated.

Jetstream.
