mini review of it in metro today.
apparently it's a collection of all his writings from warsaw reviews to the control piece.
aye read about it recently.Have just finished Torn Apart after finally getting round to reading it.Am considering buying this Morley one , but i dunno... it's all his reviews /essays of them which i'll have read before, some of which are a load of cack but then the other half are a great read.Maybe i'll just ask for it for xmas
ah well , i've gone and ordered a copy .more money than sense (if only :\ohwell: ) .Had gone off Morley a bit lately but then picked up 'Nothing' again and started reading it for the second time.Probably one of the best books ever .Had a go at 'Words And Music' a while back but just couldn't get into it.Never finished it
Paul Morley has just had a wank. He considers it a profound experience and is currently making a six-hour documentary on it for Channel 4.
yeah he does talk a lot of shit but somehow it all made sense in 'Nothing' .If you only read one book by him make it that one.Was reading the bit just now about the time as a kid he was on the bus with his father who turned round and angrily shouted down a top deck full of whining Man City supporters![]()
I'm glad that I'm not the only one here who feels a tad nonplussed by the very thought of ANY prose by Paul Morley. Seriously, that guy might always be at pains to point out to all and sundry just how loquaciously articulate he is with his over-complex syntax and vocabulary (accusation levelled with no hint of irony, ha ha ha haaa), but to me that just translates as being utterly pretentious beyond compare.
He positively jumps at every opportunity to eulogise on bands like JD and NO by bestowing his efforts with such extraneous twaddle that trying to read his overcooked ramblings is a mammoth task in itself that probably requires one to digest the entire contents of Rogets Thesaurus beforehand. Even watching him on programmes like the Culture Show trying to outdo the likes of Tony Parsnips with profound critiques makes me itch with irritation - and no, it's not because of any flea infestations from my two dogs either.
All I'm saying is - Paul Morley jerking off his literary muse on Joy Division and New Order is as predictable as another white Peter Saville Associates record sleeve with centred Helvetica typeface. Bloody tedious if you ask me!!!! Overrated charlatan - off with his dick!!

totally agree by eck. morley is a gloryhunter. jd should feck him off. and say no. you're not coming to our Chrimbo Party THIS time pal.
Paul Morley and Jon Savage are two reviewers I just can't stand. Everything they write is their own mental masturbation and tells you more about their own thought processes than the subjects themselves. I much prefer the objective, informative style of someone like Claude Flowers.
An entire Morley book fills me with dread. Much as I love his short soundbites about JD/NO (and anything else really) when he crops up on Newsnight tv now and again, alas the written word gets really tiresome. (Correct me if I'm wrong but) Didn't he write a big abstract opening section of Mark Johnson's JD book and an essay in the boxed set? He seems to get off on waffling on like "Joy Division are New Order but New Order aren't Joy Division." and "New Order are the last rock band. New Order are not a band.".. "White is black but grey is not grey" Aaaaaarrrrgggghh! get to the point, is there a fkn point?! He just keeps reversing his statements back and forth, again and again until he clocks up the agreed wordcount. Morley, just give us a straight fkn anecdote will yer!
Reading this at the moment. He hasn't just collected all his old reviews and essays together , he's written and added new 10 page essays before each piece. He's written about what he's written. His next book is going to be about how he wrote the new pieces in this book. Then the book after that will be about how he wrote that book .. then the book after that ....
Did anyone actually finish the novel he wrote 'about' suicide?
Never managed to read a full page before falling asleep.
Yes.He once considered suicide because of a pair of trousers.
"The world's out to get me although it doesn't know i exist"
Chris Nash wrote: I've got a copy of the book to review for this site.
I've started it...
But will you finish it? I'm on to page 100 or so

I've got the book but haven't started it yet, it looks nice on the bookshelf
I'm going to read Roger's Thesaurus first, far more entertaining ![]()
Mebbe Morley should think about titling his next "music" odyssey something like: "A Simply Irrepressible Fountain Of Jism Rained Forth From His Master's Huge Ever-Pulsating Nib" or summat.
( Apologies beforehand to any Orb fans who might be offended by this.)
