All I have to say to Hooky is that I want to wish him well with his band Free Bass
he deserves to still have a go on his bass:) It is up to him of what he wants to do in the music world and I am applauding him for that Sorry if he is not with New Order:( but he chose not too:\ohwell: again I wish him all the best and hopefully I will go and see one of his gigs to give him the support

I had made a longer reply but shall refrain for the time being.I wish HOOKY well though.I just hope that the REST OF NEW ORDER can continue making music even if they don't go by that name.

Not really. I struggle to understand how the concept of three basses will work, especially for more than one album, which mebbe why its taking so long. Bad example, I know, but Keane still continue the horrible musical experiment of not having any guitars, whilst getting around this by sampling them on their second record.
I'm also dubious as to who is going to write the songs, as I cant see any of the main players as prolific song writers.
I suspect the music press will treat it all as a novelty 'old pals' act, unless they do succeed in getting some heavyweight credible vocalists in.
I'm preparing to be totally underwhelmed, but would be more than happy to be proved wrong.

Judging by that demo posted on Hooky's myspage, you're not alone.
The demo was pretty Bass lite IMO. It actually reminded me of Best and Marsh in it's tone: A bit cheesy (especially the Big Ben samples!?) and forgettable.
On the limited 'bas'is of that one demo and the bass-how.low.can.you.go.promises I think it's highly unlikely that freebass will outdo the more bass heavy moments that Revenge had.
Lets see more of the kind of stuff they started writing for Control- Far better.
Hooky's Bass is bliss,so there is hope that he will always play it until he carks it,for me..However,I kind of expect to be underwhelmed by the whole Freebass thing also,so owt good will be a bonus..And side project-wise,Hooky always came up with a couple of gems I thought...So if he must do his own thing away from New Order,hopefully he'll hit the magic again,with a couple of tracks mebees...Not that excited for now though...Intrigued,but not piss me pants excitement about it....

Well I've got 22.5 years behind a rumbleplank to my credit (shame?) and I am only mildly interested, so I can only imagine how unexciting it is for those of you who don't have the "see, I told you we should gas the guitarists" angle to engender positive freebass attitudes.
And if he's giving free basses away, I'll have a Shergold 6 and a Goodfellow please.
The thing is, Hooky, Mani and Rourke were bass players who were absolutely perfect for the bands they were in. But, I don't think they're necessarily great song writers; they don't really play other instruments, and they're three somewhat limited players of the same instrument. All brilliant, in their way, especially Hooky, but that doesn't mean they'll translate into a great band. I'd be more optimistic if there was a Marr/Sumner/Squire in there.
I'm quite looking forward to hearing Freebass.
I chatted with some friends when my last full-time band stopped playing around 10 years ago and we joked that all four of us should start a new band - three bass players and a drummer - the idea being that we'd avoid the ego of a guitarist. We all laughed, thinking it would never work.
Then again, I don't have Hooky's talent for sublime melodies. I think that this could surprise everyone and be a really good band. We need to remember that the track that Hooky put up on his MySpace page was a rough demo, not a finished product and if you listen to some of the New Order rehearsal bootlegs where they were playing through ideas, nothing sounded that special, but tracks from Lowlife and Brotherhood came out of them and they sounded great. It's 'benefit of the doubt' time and we should all keep open minds.
Wow, I remember saying the same about freebass almost a year ago and being attacked from all sides... good to see people coming to thier senses... and yes, I agree with almost all of the above posts...
i'd just like to say that the demo that is on the myspace sounds absolutely nothing like the tracks i have listened to in the past couple of weeks - all of the ones i've heard are awesome, and don't worry, cos the one on the myspace WAS after all just a demo, every other track i have heard eclipses it, completely different.
Well now... straight from the horse's sons mouth...
I can't wait to hear the final product!!!!

Speaking of which... who should we write to to get at least an EP out of the remainings of WFTSC? I find it a bit sad you're the only one who heard them

Looks like NO won't get together to finish these off, so can't the tracks just be released, as is, on ITunes globally for the fans?
Then we can all be happy... well... sad actually that the book is finally closed.
I wish Hooky well (and the other three) on whatever music they choose to make and whatever they do. I'm not really going to judge Freebass until I've heard a finished song (not a demo), though. But I wouldn't mind giving it a try.
Talking of Freebass, there's a quote I can't seem to understand quite well, coming from Liam Gallagher. It's from a recent issue (January 2008 issue) of the Japanese music magazine specialising in foreign music called rockin' on.(Although I said 'foreign', the vast majority of the artists and musicians that are featured in the magazine are British.)
The magazine had an exclusive interview with him, and there's one tiny part of the interview that made me think regarding Freebass.
Translation of that certain part:
Japanese interviewer: 'I heard a bit ago that you would be participating in singing for Peter Hook's new project Freebass.' Liam Gallagher: 'Freebass? I don't know about it. Isn't Peter Hook exaggerating again? I might think about it, if he said that he wrote a really good song and wants me to sing it.'
