on selling your vinyl collection

the pre christmas journey to the loft (baubles to you and me) has left me pleasantly surprised. My collection I thought had part sold to fund povery and holidays when CDs were new...

was remarkably intact. obviously could not bear to part with vinyl for derisory amounts. although not much rare stuff, I still have a sordide, an immaculate bm my 7 and 12 ceremonies, the flexi from hmv market street and great to see record covers i had long forgotten about. Artwork...

even an italian bootleg- incubation, komakino job with all JD lyrics in english and italian. lovely to feel the vinyl and covers

missing in action: unknown pleasures first pressing, still hessian and short circuit, a few others no doubt.

Nevertheless vinyl is now out of loft depite not even having a deck.

also some good ol punk surprises as well eg tv personalities part time punks clash ruts etc.

started to look on ebay to replace...

moral? don't sell your collection, you will regret.

oh and a massive cities in the park poster that's just too big. will give to son since that was his first gig he went to- in a pram

I'd never sell most of my vinyl collection. The Factory stuff is irreplacable and most of it sounds better on vinyl. From The Hip by Section 25 is the one that sounds poor and the CD is a massive improvement. My vinyl does get a spin on a fairly regular basis. A Linn Sondek is for playing vinyl, not just for sitting there looking pretty.

Sold all my lps, which I slightly regret as it was nice to have the full size sleeve art, but on the other hand just don't have the space. Glad I kept the 12"s, especially as at the time I hadn't registered that the versions on cd of so many of them are edited.

But I've never had much luck with vinyl. No matter how carefully I tried to store them lps would always somehow acquire loads of crackles and pops. Wish I could afford to buy a USB turntable now to digitise everything. Still got lots of stuff on vinyl only.

I've been thinking about selling all my non-NO and JD related vinyl. Trouble is, although alot is fairly rare, vinyl albums don't sell for much these days, unless they're originals by certain bands - Who, Rolling Stones, Byrds, etc. You'd even be lucky to get more than £15 or original Beatles vinyl.

I used to have over 2000 LPs and have whittled it down to around 500. I can play vinyl but nowadays I can't be bothered. It certainly is nice to look through your collection every now and then and think, 'Wow, I've still got that!' :laugh:

i need to find a record player,a good one because i know i will never find a needle for the record player in the living room.

i've got nothing but 12" vinyl
