personally my fave is the yam in perfect kiss video

Although I have just heard the Eccleshall in that French TV performance of BLT in 87, that is awesome aswell

Gotta be the Shergold, it's a complete space cadet of a bass.

Like the Eccleshall's noise too though.

I'll bet a tenner you never used a real one, if you had, you'd not have said that. The programming interface is so weird even microsoft would reject it.

Surely only seppos call Bass "sea bass"?

Can't recall ever seeing "sea bass" in any UK waters species recognition guide.

Don't fall into their ways young Engerlander!!

Nobody posted a pint yet, which is encouraging.

Dunno where you've been eating Cambo, but I've never seen Bass labelled in a London restaurant as anything but Sea Bass!

The nomenclature of the catering industry, is not something I think about. Y'know, selling greater spotted dogfish (bull huss) as "rock salmon" and all

It's defo just "bass" when it's in the sea. I mean, would you care to show me a fresh water bass?

Here you go Steve...

Freshwater Bass

My favourite bass is the Yamaha. I had one once but had to sell it.

Beautiful it was...

I voted for the Shergold, purely because it's the only one I've heard of.

(Does that make me a bad person?)

Among the general populace it makes you a freak, nobody's ever heard of 'em.

And they're Jesulander fish, which proves my point, "sea bass" is an irritating seppoism.

Hooky first started using the Eccleshall late 85 after spotting the bassist from the alarm using one. Hookys bass in the perfect kiss vid is a Yamaha BB 1200s. My favourite is the Shergold.

I've been called some things in my time, Steveo, but an 'American'? Oh, please.

It's what us cultured English call it. Deal with it.

See, that's the only reason I raised it, I know you're very proud of ye olde engerlishness, and this just seemed wrong.

Actually the various species of bass found in the UK, are categorised as "sea perches", which double confuses things, and triple-fucks things when you look at the American fresh water bass, which are clearly Perch.

I'm going to lie down now, sorry I ever mentioned it, and you should now also be most abashed by your poor fish pun in the first place.

After all your "my precious baby" carping, you go and let Cabernet-Godzilla there have a go on it... Did it live?

Finally, we address the real issue!

had to vote for the Yam as that's what we hear on most recordings (not live that is and unless it's a six string, which would obviously be the Shergold)

Love the look of the Eccleshall, but hooky says he can't use it in the studio, doesn't sound right. (I'd still love one, but Chris Eccleshall doesn't reply to his emails!)

Would also love a Shergold, but I'd be more likely to find some gold dust and hens teeth, while sifting through rocking horse shite than finding a marathon six for sale.

Rickenbacker, very nice, used for early JD stuff, I think he moved on fairly quickly though.

I think maybe the Eccleshall was used a bit before 85, there was a vid on here a while ago of them playing AOC, which looked to be around 83-84 and he was using it then, could be wrong though, perhaps jack could ask? (like he's got nothing better to do!!!)

Wouldn't say no to any of them really.

83-85 was a Gibson EB2 that went horribly out of tune and screeched like a feedback-ridden banshee!
