Played a Hohner copy of of one on a few tracks in the studio. Despite it not sharing the Steinberger's main benefit, the freaky plastic body, it was rather good to play and sounded really great. Of course, it does LOOK retarded, especially when you are not used to it and your hand keeps flying off the end when you reach for the 1st frett.

Would certainly like one if I found a cheap one. Fucking impossible to keep them in strings though, they're hard to find and pricey as fuck.

I've still got a Hohner B2A. Great Bass, got it for my 18th.

Looks very dated but great to play, feels good down the first fret. Quite a punchy sound.

*Oops, correction, it was a Little Stud. The first bass I ever played belonged to my high school, and it was a Big Stud. It also had a big warp in the neck which rendered several frets unplayable.

I did say twas in a dark and dingie studio, no fuckin way I'd play one in public, besides they feel terrible on the strap, I did all my playing sitting on a chair.

Since Alejo has ressurected this thread, I should add something I mentioned elsewhere regarding why the Eccleshll doesn't get used in the studio.

I suspect it is because hollow bodies are total whores for ll manner of mechanical noises, every time you move near one, because the face of the hollow part acts like a tympanic membrane (ear drum), and the hollow bit is of course a natural amplifier. Live you can use obsence brutal gating to cut out the noises when not playing, and when playing, no cunt will hear them in the midst of a full on NO live racket.

correct herr doktor, apart from looking better, the eccleshall sounds better through the amp, livlier, bigger balls. the resonance of the body gives it an edge over the bb, but the bass is DI'd as well as miked up in the studio, so the bb wins there, less resonant body gives more solid sound.
