Billy Corgan Sings for Hook's Freebass

Wherefore art thou, Billy Corgan? It's been some six weeks since you and your Smashing Pumpkins last graced our news pages, but here you are again, with plentiful items of interest for your devotees.

First there is the matter of Freebass, the Peter Hook/Andy Rourke/Mani all-bass supergroup. Then there is the matter of new Smashing Pumpkins tune "Superchrist", which will appear exclusively on a Guitar Center compilation due from the retailer March 1. According to a Billboard.com report, said compilation will be rounded out by a bunch of bands comprised of Guitar Center employees. Oh boy!

And finally, of course, there is the matter of the Smashing Pumpkins' touring travels, which have expanded since our last report to include three stops in New Zealand and one in Adelaide, Australia. Oh etc.

Has it been said if Hooky himself will try to write or sing a vocal? He outta do at least one.

Seems like an UNKLE or This Mortal Coil sort of thing going on, most of which have mixed results... at least Corgan gives them some name dropping clout on the USA side so it might be get some attention

A long time ago I emailed Hooky on Myspace and asked him if he would be singing for Freebass, as I really like his voice on the first Revenge album. His exact reply was:

"Thanks for the compliments about the singin mate! These days though, I prefer to just concentrate on playin the bass. "

Billy Corgan is an annoying twat. Maybe they needed his whiny voice to sing notes higher than Hooky's bass.

I like Corigan's voice as backing to music (Siamese Dream), but when it is in front of the music (melon Collie), he just tears it apart....

The more that comes out of this the more I think I might like Free Bass. I really had my doubts, as it seemed as some after thought side project 'for the boys' to play and well 'make a few bucks from cause we're recording it anyways' .... but the more I'm starting to realize they might have put some real effort in it...

I felt the same at first, I think we all did. Seems like they are taking it really serious all the way around.
