Nearly finished this book and I highly recommend it. I know Paul Morleys way of writing is not everybodys cup of tea. But he writes this book with such passion for a band he clearly loves.As being obssesed with music myself (particulary New Order related, surprise surprise) its nice to read a book by somebody who is also obsessed. Has anybody else read this? Am I on my own for liking this?

I've already written a review of it, but didn't get round to sending it to Nic. :rolleyes: (I will do, thanks for the reminder)

I liked it. Better than I expected and nowhere near as arty-farty as people expect it to be.

I think Paul's reputation as writing obscure, 'up-yourself' art bollocks simply comes from the sleeve notes for the ZTT releases.

His writing is FAR more accessible than that and the book is an excellent read.

I'd certainly recommend it to all JD and NO fans.

I enjoyed 80 percent of the book...the other 20 percent was self indulgent wanking crap.

We still need a definitive JD book though.

I would have liked to have had some of Morelys New Order reviews and articles in there as well.

Poor New Order. Always being overlooked for JD these days, ha hah.

That would make me a happy man.

New Order are loing deserving of both a serious biography and a book that breaks every thing down song by song, explaining how each song was written, recorded, ect.

Ive been listening to JD a lot this week....listened to both Unknown Pleasures and Closer on vinyl 4 times each....plus other tracks...

I still dont think they are as good as New Order. Yes itd dark, primitive, powerful, and has a magic....

But I still think that New Order are musically far superior to Joy Division......

thanks for posting your opinions about morley's book. i was very hesitant to even want to pick this up because i do not like his writing style at all. maybe if it is 80% good, as you all seem to say ...
