Think we better wait till we hear the single. The music on there myspace site is from there Best Of album and partly 10 years old. These Blank & Jones guys did not make any new music since 4 years and I heard some rumors that the single has not much to do with trance music. So looking forward to that.

I haven't heard of any of Blank and Jones' original songs, but I do have two remixes by them that they did for the Pet Shop Boys. I notably liked their remix of 'Love Comes Quickly', and the remix was actually quite acoustic, and not at all trancey. That being said, I don't think they are the lowest common denominator in the music scene, and there are far worst artists he could collaborate with. I will be looking forward to this, as I've (as well as probably other people on here) been tired of all the talk, and want to see some actual music come out from any one of them.

I personally will be looking forward to hearing this particular song. As for whether I like the song or not, I'll have to judge that after I actually listen to it.

Its not New Order, Sumner throwing a few vocals over some DJ's beats is hardly something to get excited about.

Yeah, it wasn't too bad at all. It seems B&J just do a variation of things, trance, acoustic, and atmospheric. They're kinda like a weird mix between Orb, Massive Attack (ie., "Teardrop" style), and maybe Enigma. Personally, I'd like to see Barney work with the Chemical Brothers again. Or even Crystal Method. Either way! Its still humble. Don't think they're in any financial situation anywhere close to say Bon Jovi or Morrissey, or spending it all on drugs and filth like Shaun, so, more power to Barnster.

But, I think it was probably more initiated on Blank and Jones end, them being huge New Order/Barney fans. Anyone seen any other articles anywhere on this collab? I'm curious.

Exactly. I can't see anything remotely shit that he's done collab-wise. Even "Rockin Over the Beat" is brilliant, though many people think its cheesy turd. (And I actually like Technotronic, so that helps.) Hell, if he came out and announced he was gonna work with Britney Spears, I'd still have faith in it being something really awesome. And I can't even stand Britney. He may seem lazy, but he puts a lot into them.

I believe that would be the 'Rockin over the beat (Rockin' over Manchester Hacienda Mix)' or something like that.

Anyway, I don't think the new collaboration would turn up really bad, though.

Another piss-poor choice of collaborators just reinforces how utterly out of touch Mr Sumner is from contemporary music of any value... Blank/Jones ply the usual hairdresser techno that is the very modern epitome of what punk was trying to destroy... facile, efficient, complacent, predictable, paint by the numbers air conditioned doodahmuzak...

This is terrific news. I didn't figure Barney would hibernate for too long. Our Mr. Sumner is a great song writer. He has more than often been as good as it gets. He has also turned out a few that few short on logic and execution, but the heart and mindset have been constant. He has a deep wellspring of talent and in the right environs he can pen as good as song as you ever heard.

This new mix of talent and energies has my attention. Unrestricted, he's capable of something grand. Timing and chemistry is essential. It feels right. I expect to be happy with their results. Good luck, guys. Knock it out, out of site.

Bernard could work with anyone he wanted of any age or genre... if he knew who was doing the interesting music of the moment he would seek them out and the project would take on a natural aspect of innovation... rather than just the pastiche we have become accustomed to

The point of course is that the reason that NO lost the magic in their music is that they lost touch with and lost their interest in vital contemporary music... so it could no longer infuse their attempts to copy it and thereby stumble upon something truly new... if Blank/Jones and these Oasis/Doves soundalikes that will be part of Bad Lieutenant is really what Bernard is listening to then no wonder his music sounds like it does...

There are plenty of over 50 artists who regularly work with younger collaborators... Neil Young, Lou Reed, Thurston Moore and others I cant think of at the moment (I'm getting old) show that if you are really an interesting, searching, curious artist that doesnt change with time... you remain deeply interested in the important work going on and you often seek out the makers of that work to collaborate with...

Bernard could easily work with any of the artists who currently are pushing forward many of the ideas that defined NO's innovative period... the fact that he had never heard of the Notwist when asked about their record tells you pretty much all you need to know...

Pros:

• Post-punk namedropping cred
• Burmas in only slightly better physical shape than Bernard
• Only post-punk group still extant who yells and screams on-stage almost as often as Bernard
• Strike only slightly less embarassing Gods of Rawk poses on stage
• One of the comatose post-punk groups who shuffled back together at the turn of the century and secreted a straightforward guitar-based album (ONoffON is at least better than Wire's Send and as good as Get Ready)

Cons:

• They don't use auto cues
• They tour often and extensively
• They don't put the harder guitar parts on tape loop

The world premiere of the song will be with Pete Tong on BBC Radio One's WMC miami special on March 28th.

kind of. but not official for reviews or radios. it belongs to friend of mine from record company business and i wasnt allowed to make a copy of it. i only listened two times and i'll ask for sound clip to share with people here. but if cdr's in circulation like this, it'll leak on internet or ebay in future. i really dont know if its album version or something but it wasnt a remix.

i dont know its because i miss bernards voice so much but it does not sound "cheesy" to me, i love it, tune has its own quality. shame that pete tong havent played it yet, dying to hear the remixes though.

Depeche Mode may not be "cool"...but Martin Gore is a hell of an awesome songwriter, DM make great albums, and they put on a great live show.

I could care less about remixes....I do really like the K-Klass remix of Ruined in a Day though...

That is song is kinda cool!! And you gotta understand its a remix. So, who knows what the original sounds like. I like the piano bits and if this is like the original, then theres still A LOT they can do with it. But its good. B&J tend to be repetitive a lot, but this isn't a bad track at all.

Well I got a listen to the "Miracle Cure" (whats with that title; didnt these slickos already do their Bob Smith Vegas-style review?) and...

It looks like I was way off base and this new collaboration is indeed a height-scaling effort of supreme magnificence... ;) (applause)

Come on kids... this sort of music is everything that deadens your soul, dulls your spirit and kills your dreams... arent there any fans of this bands work left who value their experience just a little bit? Who dont just suck up any crumb their heroes cast off? This record is yet another laughable travesty...

And yet... for those who say that its silly to expect formerly innovative artists to continue to innovate...

This week another group of old has-beens who havent recorded in 10 years and were written off as irrelevant released their first single in a long time.. and it renews my faith in the ability of successful, mature, aging artists to ask more out of themselves than their fawning fans do... pushing themselves far beyond what is expected of them, they reinvent their entire approach to music and reveal a brutal new beauty which lifts the experience of all involved, most notably the listeners... there is no reason that New Order could not record and release a record as mind-bending as "Machine Gun", but of course they didnt...

In the end it is all personal preference. If you are referring to "Machine Gun" by Portishead, I am listening to it now and it is aptly titled. I want to shoot myself with a machinne gun as we speak. It is terrible! JMO I'll stick with "Miracle Cure" and the crumbs that Barney throws out, thanks.

Miracle Cure is a great song , I only heard the 60 sec clip and it is a very good catchy song I am very pleased with it and can't wait to hear the whole thing, there is no Complaining here just complements for Bernard and his great singing

Aren't they clever, they've dropped the Blue Monday drums through a sheet metal shredder and mixed them right up over the vocals. Decent effect but hardly anything new or groundbreaking - see Depeche, Aphex, Radiohead, NIN, etc.

Other than radically different styles, contexts and influences, Portishead released their first album around 16 years after NO/JD and this is now their third. Hardly a fair comparison in timeframes for the bands. Let's see what ground they're breaking in 2024. Perhaps you'll be trolling the Portishead forums by then, lamenting the passing of the good old days.

You continue to fail to grasp a rather simple concept: not all fans here are looking for the likes of 'mind-bending' industrial trip-hop from NO. Some just want a groove or some throwaway Bernard couplets. To deride them for enjoying different styles simply makes you look like an elitist bore.

I was curious and went on YouTube to check out "Machine Gun" and I'm sorry to say this, but it's horrible music. I rather listen to "Jetstream" which is the New Order song I dislike the most.

At this point in time, I don't expect New Order to be innovative anymore. If they ever do another album or song, I just hope that it's good. I hardly hear any good song from other young artists, I'm not going to ask middle-aged men to reinvent music.

I just listened to the sample clip of 'Miracle Cure' on Blank and Jones' Myspace page, and I actually liked it! As for the remix, it probably has less of Barney's vocals than the original, but it made me want to listen to the original version. (However, I've heard remixes of songs that feature even less of the original song's vocals than this one, so the remix I heard wasn't too bad.)

(It reminded me slightly of GIAUE, though.)

I can't wait until this is officially available.

the single version of the Blank & Jones sounds pretty good, aside from the typically bad Barney lyrics. the remix that's floating around is fine for immediately forgettable eurotrash that plays well in Hamburg.

oh, and that new Portishead single is pretentious crap. I've heard far better music in "Tetsuo: the Iron Man."

I think this will be the first NO related release i wont bother with. Its an ok tune IMO but nothing more. i wouldnt dig it out and listen to it over and over

I used to prefer Barneys lyrics when i didnt know what they were about, he now has a tendancy to write lyrics that (like somebody else said above) sound like a 4 year old's. They seem to spell everything out, step by step, in a quite mundane way.

Been a NO fan since 1991 and a Blank & Jones fan since 2002. I see a lot of people hating on Blank & Jones and they probably haven't heard 5% of their material. They are more than trance. If Blank & Jones weren't respected in the scene they wouldn't have put out 23 singles and I doubt they would have secured Barney's voice for their newest single.

Thank GOD for some news about an electronic-oriented project instead of all the geezer rock bullshit I've had to hear about forever and a day.

This new B&J single will do very well and I'm sure the album will rule!

I really liked Neon Golden. Irony is I only bought it 'cos a review somewhere said one of their tracks was New Order-esque. It's not exactly high energy though is it? Like Sigur Ros stuff it can get a bit soporific in large doses (OK, not quite as much as Sigur Ros).

I am very surprised that this song has not leaked on line fully, they did a good job protecting this song, even the dj's who remxed this song haven't leaked or uploaded it on the internet, usually a song like this is already on line to listen to.

Considering B&L have what seems like their entire catalogue on iTunes, I'd say it's probable that you'll at least be able to grab a digital copy.

At my advanced age I'm not into Techno or Trance. Some of the 'Miracle Cure' mixes sound awfully cold and depressing to me. That said, the basic Radio Mix is OK for me, as may be some of the others on the yet-to-be released CD single. Still waiting for it to be listed on Amazon UK, though... Amazon Germany charges twice the price of the CD for shipping it to where I live.

Gave this a spin in the car on the way home from work tonight.

Didn't really enjoy it. Wound the window up and put the a/c on - out of embarrasment when someone glanced my way hearing the thump thump thump beat.

Reminded me of the weaker parts of "Rest of New Order" - or maybe I'm just getting old! Switched the CD off and chilled with a nice bit of Classic FM instead.
