Joy Division Documentary — Forum Archive

I had the pleasure of seeing this Documentary today.

Fantastic - very moving and will defo touch a nerve in anyone that really 'knows'......it has more substance than Control with the obvious difference being that Control is a movie and this is a documentary.

I wont even go into it - but will say, for us or those going to see it or watch it, its really special and will touch most people. Dont write it off at all, its really that touching and i was defo in tears through most of it but in good ways - because it really does touch that nerve that is in all of us!

Towards the end is less then a minute of Blackpool footage and for us that were lucky enough to be there, it will add an even bigger dimension to what it is you have been watching!

Watch it and you will know what this drunken waffle is about.

Also had the good fortune of seeing it recently.Same old story but superbly made :bow:

The early footage of rubble strewn late 70s Manchester brought back memories of what Britain was like in that era.It wasn't just Manchester that was a wasteland , many towns (including my own) and cities had areas like that.Wolverhampton still is like that :evil4:

Was that early footage of two teenagers Bernard and Hooky? They sure looked like them, but probably was more a coincidence use of stock footage overlayed with their narrative?

I like the Documentary, too. It's great. But I don't think, it will make it into german cinemas, because it's too special. Control is in german synchronisation there.

The End is better in Control, because it is shown, what happened to the remaining members of Joy Division.

Thought this was set up more like NO Story? That was a crap documentary when it comes to band documentaries.... so by the sounds of it, JD's is much better?

This documentary is that fucking good, I have just logged on at 1 in the morning!

Highly emotional stuff.....and I'm pretty sober! Cannae speak highly enough of the way that it's been pieced together. Totally agree with you Em's, you can clearly tell this was put together by people who cared.

Best thing about it for me was that they got all the people who mattered onto the film, you can clearly see the emotion that Ian's death still carries in the way everyone talks about it.

More importantly, the way the documentary is edited, with the past and present scenes of Manchester, the venues and images mixed cleverly with so many of the songs from both albums, you cannae help but feel like you were there yersel.

I could whinge about not seeing more of the Plan K footage and still not having seen the full SLC on What's On, but for now I couldnae care less, I'll save it for another time.

As I said a while ago after I saw a copy which was given to me by my brother - NOOL is in the credits too, along with Mr. Sultan's site... And no mention of 'Barney's Angels' :evil4:

So do they talk about JD becoming New Order in the JD doc at all? Is there any New Order footage in it?

Cant wait to see this!

Im sad today.....its rumoured that the US Release date for Control has been pushed back from this coming Tuesday to June!!!!!

Not really mate, there are wee references to New Order, plus as Em's mentions above there is a wee clip of New Order in Blackpool.

It's the best Joy Division documentary I've seen, if I was clever enough to put something together, I would have loved to have ma name related to it. That's the highest praise it can get.

I would love to think that sooner or later we will be treated to the unseen Plan K & What's On footage (and any other rehearsal footage that may exist and the Leigh festival???), but after all these years I am not holding ma breath.

Hmmmmm. Am I the only one then who wasn't blown away by it?

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it--am happy it exists and would obviously recommend it to any fan. But a bit of a jumble at times, no? kinda racing through the band's history when maybe we could've gotten a bit more background info on them all... I mean it shouldn't just be directed at people who already know everything about the band, right? (plus not a single song performed in full...such a shame that. just tantalizing bits and pieces--granted we can watch most of these clips online but would've been nice to see on the big screen for a change...)

please don't blast me for this--I logged on at work just so's I could post this reply, that's how important this forum is to me

I actually joined that site and had to make out that I ran my own business, the intention was to buy the footage and make it available.

I got a phonecall the next day and tried to bluff it, but the guy knew exactly what I was up to and said something about it being copywrited.

Fookin gutted, but I still have hope this will arrive in ma post one day with the Plan K footage.

i saw this last nite and as an aged 47 year old it brort a stack of manchester memories back for me - its a super production and full of spine tingling moments ie bernards tape of a hypnotised ian and the whats on footage - carnt wait for an official release
