Many people seem to completely misunderstand the lyrics to 'Crystal':

'Here comes love, it's like honey, You can't buy it with money...'

For all Barney's perceived lyrical failings, he doesn't say that you can't buy honey with money...

I'll phrase the lyric another way and maybe those who are confused will finally get the meaning:

'Love is like honey - it's so sweet, But you can't buy love with money'

If he'd phrased it that way though, it wouldn't rhyme or scan within the song.

You see, Barney isn't that dumb...

If you disagree with me, then I'm presuming you've chatted with Barney more recently than I have - let us know what he said!

Errrmm... Sure you started this thread before, Chris. Must be burning your soul away on a regular basis. Must admit, it's never really 'got on my wick', personally.

When it comes to honey, I prefer buckwheat honey, it is robust and strongly flavoured. Idea for pancakes in fact. You can buy it, with money, at your local Tescos. No love for sale there though; the checkout girl gives you a nice smile, if it's early in her shift though.

Erm , i've always known he means you can't buy love with money, rather than honey

Although for a long time i did think "I'm a poor man /if you leave me/i'm applauded/ then forgotten" meant he would be a poor man if the person(s) in question left him and he would be applauded for being a poor man then forgotten.Or summat Fcuk knwos.Gotta go now .Laters.

The reason I posted it again is that I've recently seen someone posting about it (in the poor lyrics thread?) and also someone saying 'Of course you can buy honey with money' in their signature.

Just thought it was worth reminding people... :nod:

I always thought the song was about the blighting affect of osteoporosis and the therapeutic effects of honey and the pains of not being able to afford it due to the effects of said illness.

Osteoporosis is a 'condition' rather than an illness. Honey has no provable positive effect. Calcium and vitamin 'D' supplements do however, also bisphosphonates.

nonetheless, weren't we all (well, some us at least), when the song came out, excited about a new tune from new order. now we're just picking it to death and overly criticizing & analyzing it.

Another misconception, in "Run Wild" people think a lyric says... "sows deceit"

it really says "sows the seed"

as it "sows the seed" to make you want to read the book, otherwise you would not

Tracy Emin was practically creaming herself over this song in the Guardian last week. Overall though it is absolutely dreadful and doesnt suit New Order in any way. As Liam said it is a memory probably best forgotten.
