Definitive "live" versions of each album

It seems like one of the common requests in the threads about remastering the studio albums is live versions of songs.

I have long wanted to compile a live version of each of New Order's 80's albums because every song they wrote eventually had a live airing (with precious few exceptions). I did it once in my podcast with a live recreation of Substance, although that has me talking every few songs.

The members here have access to some truly remarkable recordings, so why don't we make this a group effort?

Each of the albums (Movement, Power Corruption & Lies, Lowlife, Brotherhood, Substance, and Technique) would appear in their original running order, adding any relevant single A and B sides (Everything's Gone Green, Temptation, etc), using only soundboard-quality recordings. It could almost be a dry run for Warners, showing them what we want.

Artwork for each album could be done that combines elements of Saville's original work (perhaps the typography), along with live photos and some unifying theme across the graphics for all six albums.

I'd be happy to spearhead this, as I have the ability to do audio editing/mastering and can also do the artwork.

The entire bundle could then be shared with everyone via torrents.

I reckon that's a great idea although I don't have much live recordings, specialy of soundboard quality...

Sounds a great idea, don't Old Blue & Timbo seem to have everything ever recorded live?

Susbtance was played live once on their setlist. :D

Couldn't you use the Irvine meadows soundboard for most of technique? I find the clarity and such makes that show feel almost as if it was a part of their discography.

How could you choose a best Ceremony or Tempt..

Listening to (and enjoying) the Substance live set that you compiled 50 Note. Thanks for doing this and I would be interested in hearing the other classic albums treated this way.

I have to admit, that while I do like DM's SOFAD live release, it always seemed kind of gimmicky since the band never played those songs in that order during the '93 tour. Maybe I'm biased since I know the setlist actually was this one time, but the Substance one by NO works for me.

I don't think I would attempt to segue the songs together as a seamless show because it doesn't work that way. I don't know that every recording I'd use would be specific to the time period of it's respective album, plus, differences in venue size, crowd noise, etc., would be over-emphasized when cross-fading from one song to the next. I'd prefer to do each song with it's own fade in/out, so they are clearly individual performances.

I support the idea, though I think it would need to be followed up by new boot releases (strict chronological concert date order) of each chosen live song contextualised in its original concert setlist position!

Considering "Guilty Partner" was only played twice in 1998, good luck!

This is a most excellent idea. Ive often wondered why bands tend not to release live versions of their albums.

Since the Substance album has a special place in my heart (and really the album that made me such a huge fan of the band today), I enjoyed this mix of Substance tunes quite a bit, especially some of the older tracks that I hadn't heard in the live setting before. Thanks for sharing this.

I imagine you could find most of the stuff on Sseeek, although I've never managed to get the damn thing to work properly.
