Brotherhood

Most people are pretty indifferent to this album if I remember. But does anyone else really like the really booming, rich basslines? Hooky never sounded better I dont think

I liked this album, actually. I especially liked the songs 'State of the Nation', 'Broken Promise', 'Paradise', 'Angel Dust', and 'Bizarre Love Triangle'.

For me, this album was pushed off on the wayside for too long. Was hard to find in record stores, and when I did, it was way overpriced ($28!). Bought Get Ready before Brotherhood... so by the time I picked it up, the NO sound had kinda moved on... guess i never really gave it time to sink in, as I tend to fall back on old favorites... but been keeping it on the shelf so when I want a new NO cd, I have one there, while the rest of you don't:p

Every now and then I will listen to this.

As It Is When IT Was is my favourite track of this album.

I like Brotherhood too.

I like Brotherhood especially the songs 'Paradise' 'Broken Promise' and 'Angel Dust'.

I like it but dont love it. Seems rushed to be released. A shame as some decent songs buried in the clumsy, lazy, poor production.

how come my brotherhood cd does not have the song state of the nation on in, is it an import versionn

When I first heard it, I was underwhelmed, but it's grown on me over time. Now it's actually one of the New Order records I can listen to straight through quite happily. I came to appreciate the punchy, straightforward songs; it's nice to listen to after something like Republic or Technique, which are great, but pretty heavy on the electronics. :)

Correct. Cracking song. Also love All Day Long, BLT, Paradise & Angel Dust.

Managed to piss off the girlfriend of the time when I told her that NO wrote Every Little Counts about her

Angel Dust kicks the crap out of everything else on the album, except maybe BLT and AIIWIW.

BTW, I love it - it beats Movement to a pulp... :)

For me the worst album...but includes great tunes like As It Is When It Was, Broken Promise,BLT and Paradise.

love it,, was quite a shock when they released it so quick after low life,, though the production did let it down a bit,, got some of me faves on it,, as it is when it was , became the title of me brighton colllege project at the time, paradise is lush yup

It completes my personnal Bizarre Love Triangle, along with 'Low-Life' and 'P, C & L'. 'Brotherhood'

Actually, this is probably my second favorite NO album, after Technique. Not counting compilations, of course.

Great album,great songs,great basslines,pisspoor production.I actually prefer most of them played live,with the one exception being BLT,which is pure sublime perfection.Personally,I think it's the most cohesive songwise.I also believe it's the beginning of the end of the 'old' N.O.,the great cult secret before they moved up to being a more commercial,stadium filling,rock/dance behemoth...yeh,I can give Paul Morley a run for his money!!

I absolutely love this album. If you can find it on vinyl, it does sound better than the crappy cd version (hope this improves in the upcoming cd remasters). I'd rate it second best behind only Low Life of the albums.

average new order album. from the 8 studio albums, i rank it at # 4 or sometimes 5.

When I began buying new order's albums I remember being disappointed by Brotherhood, but then I was really dissatisfied with Technique. But when bought both albums I hadn't heard anything off either (except the remix of BLT). So both came as quite a shock.

Quite a lot of people on the forum are really down on the guitar tracks, and the other half find the 'electronic' tracks to be weaker than those on lowlife. I'd say that the only miss-fire is Angel Dust - mainly because the mix is cluttered. I think that tracks 1-7 hold up really well. That is partly because of Hooky's basslines - I often get a bit bored of his bass - but I agree that he really shines on the album, especially on Weirdo and BLT.

Bit of a curate's egg of a record really. BLT is magnificent, Angel Dust is quality, the rest of it is poorly produced and in many cases average to poor songs.

"Brotherhood" is my favorite NO record. "Paradise" just fills me with such emotion, and "All Day Long" is one of Bernard's greatest accomplishments to date.

It's tacked on to the end of the original Factory CD.

I've always considered Low Life my favourite album but thinking about it, Brotherhood is the one I play the most. I love the rawness of it, great songs.

This album epitomizes New Order for me.

it was the first NO album I ever bought. I lived in LA so I had to special order it. I waited two weeks and cost me $27 (alot for a 15 year old kid in 1986!) I fell in love with every song. i don't know if i have favorite NO album, but for nostalgic reasons, Brotherhood is most dear to me.

"Paradise", "Weirdo", "BLT", "Angel Dust", and I've always liked the pisstake homage and experiment of "Every Little Counts". How could anybody not like a record with the beautiful original "BLT"

"All Day Long" a bit too melodramatic maybe. "Broken Promise" sounds like filler with Hooky repeating an "Isolation" bassline. "As it is was it is or like whatever" always seemed like a failed attempt to make a more mainstream rock track, at least the studio version. Not Bernard's strength.

And the CD later adding "State of the Nation"... was not that welcome a bonus.

I might be in the minority but I just wish that songs like Paradise, As It Is When It Was, Broken Promise, Way of Life, All Day Long, Angel Dust and Every Second Counts had been given the same production values as State Of The Nation. Then this album was have been fantastic. I cant help that the whole exercise was rushed with some shoddy recording results.

While I agree with this thought, I have to disagree with only Every Second Counts. The soddyness of the recording and the sound of spontinaity is what is so endearing... a better recorded song would have lessen its value.
