That's almost exactly my same experience. Brotherhood will always be my favorite for sentimental reasons. :)

It's 80's Factory New Order, a neccessity.
I might be in the minority but I just wish that songs like Paradise, As It Is When It Was, Broken Promise, Way of Life, All Day Long, Angel Dust and Every Second Counts had been given the same production values as State Of The Nation. Then this album was have been fantastic. I cant help that the whole exercise was rushed with some shoddy recording results.
While I agree with this thought, I have to disagree with only Every Second Counts. The soddyness of the recording and the sound of spontinaity is what is so endearing... a better recorded song would have lessen its value.
While I agree with your agreement to my thought, I have to disagree with your disagreement about Every Second Counts. The endearing quality you find, I find as annoying. The first couple of times I heard it I thought WTF, they can't even record a track properly. Then I thought its kinda daft, then I just found it tiresome.
Personally, I would have prefered a more polished effort and think the laughing detracts from the track and makes it a tad embarrasing. I mean if it had been any other band (other than NO) would people still find it endearing?

I find that the laughing adds to the whole "pig in a zoo" line as Barney knew it was a silly line to be singing. Sometimes it's those spontaneous blemishes that add to the charm of a song... or not. To each his own.

I think t would work if the rest of the album was better and Every Second Counts was the last track.. but not in the same order obviously..
