REGRET - Reading Festival 30/8/98 Superb opener after a five year abscence, I went with Jase and Ren and it was really drawn out first here

IN A LONELY PLACE - Le Palace, Paris 17/4/82, toss up between this version and Glastonbury 81. This version wins for Barney's change of lyrics 'A light that shines down from above, a light that is guided by love'.

HURT - Studio 54 7/7/84, my favourite New Order track from a great Soundboard recording.

CHOSEN TIME - Ukranian National Home New York 19/Nov/81, a forgotton classic, and still looks and sounds great on the dvd.

MR DISCO - SECC Glasgow 25/3/89 Great opener, great beat and I lost my shoe for sevaral minutes - mayhem!

PERFECT KISS - RFH London 14/May/84 - Superb early version - 'cock like the M1' only problem was we had to sit down.

FACE UP - RFH 14/May/84 - Great version, Hooky seems to be wrestling with a monster, the Bass is running away with him. Different early lyrics -ace! (and genuinally drawn out after PK).

TEMPTATION - Tower Ballroom, B'ham 9/5/83 - What a gig remember going mental when they started with LWTUA. This has to be the best version of Temptation ever, 'and Iv'e never seen such cunt's quite like you before'.

THE VILLAGE - Powerhouse B'ham 3/6/84 - Tense packed gig (as they all were), nice version. remember Hooky and Barney walking past me and being suprised at how short they were lol.

SUNRISE - Hacienda 3/12/85 Only saw this on telly, still watch it now - great looking crowd and supercharged band.

CEREMONY - Brixton Academy 10/11/05 - Love my Digi Mike recording for the Viking singalong - Happy times!

DO THE OSTRICH - Woolwich Coronet 2/4/87 - Great old venue, and what an encore I hadn't heard anything like it (they played Atmosphere before it) I HAD to get the Bootleg.

Dunno whether I'll manage a full 12, not having been to as many gigs as some. I’ll pick one from each gig I’ve been to:

Run Wild at Glastonbury 05, I'd just heard that my Gran died and Barney didn't fuck the words up so it was an emotional time all round.

Shadowplay at the Queen Elizabeth Hall John Peel Gig. It took me all of the first two songs to realise that I was actually there, watching New Order play on such a small stage. Just when I was thinking that, Shug appeared right in front of my face and shouted “my god we’re here watching this happen’. Or something. It had been a long day and everyone was tired.

Love Vigilantes – Summercase Barcelona 2006. It just sounded amazing.

Atmosphere – Nynex Arena 1998. Seeing the band, with all their history, perform the line ‘people like you find it easy’ sent a shudder down my spine then, and it has done ever since. Despite what everyone else says, that it takes more guts than I’d have to sing that line unless you wrote it.

Ceremony at Apollo 05 – Just for the same reason that Mike said.

Your Silent Face at Bournemouth 06 – That gig was the first of the tour and the most effort to get to. It was a bloody miracle we made it. I travelled with Roy and this is his favourite so KW1 it is.

Love Will Tear Us Apart, from the 2006 Man v Cancer gig at the MEN. It was the first time I remember mass audience participation in the “COME ONS” which was to be a staple of later gigs.

Turn from Brixton 05 – they’d not played it before and I was hoping they would. A song I thought couldn’t sound better live than on record sounding miles better live than on record. Viking BVs do that to a tune.

Hooky berating the security at that bloody tent in Liverpool. He played better than I’ve ever heard him, and he looked like was strangling an otter through the gig. I can’t remember what track he ends by asking them whether they were bullied at school, but that would be my choice from that gig.

These Days from the first Glasgow gig. It was my song of the tour, from the mystery tip-off that it may be played in Bournemouth, listening to it on the way down with Roy, hearing it for the first time at that gig and then having it rattling round my head for the whole of October. Sublime.

Krafty from the second gig. It wasn’t a very memorable gig (or maybe it was, I just can’t remember any of it), but I distinctly recall getting right into this one.

True Faith Wolverhampton. The last song I’ll ever see New Order play. I knew it at the time and it was horrible. It was a bastard of a gig to travel to and from and I was miserable all the way through it. I remember sitting in the back of a taxi the next morning and feeling so down about it all. Hundreds of happy memories of my two years following the best band in the world flashed through my mind as we crawled through the morning traffic towards the airport. I tried to comfort myself with the thought that it’s better to have those memories and that I’ll treasure them forever. But it was no good. I had a bastard of a hangover, I was in a taxi in the pissing rain going to Birmingham Airport at six o’clock in the fucking morning and New Order were about to split up. A low, of sorts.

Love Vigilantes (Move 2002)

This is the first song I ever heard New Order perform live. Everybody with me that day knew how excited I was and I was nearly in tears when they ripped into this.

Touched by the Hand of God (Move 2002)

I absolutely adored this song at the time but didn’t think they would play it. I was on somebody’s shoulders at the time and when they opened into it, I nearly fell off.

Bizarre Love Triangle (Move 2002)

The one song I always wanted to hear New Order sing. So many happy memories growing up and this was the main song I loved.

Ceremony (Apollo 05)

We had seated tickets to this gig and I remember they opened up with this and me and my friend jumped up and were told immediately to sit down. We told the Steward we’d sit down AFTER this song had finished – she backed off amazingly.

Perfect Kiss (Liverpool 06)

After a brilliant day in the Slaughterhouse meeting loads of new people, I was sat with Bonz and after being told off several times for dancing in the aisles, we decided we were going to risk it. I think this might have been as a certain person was carried out, but I could be wrong!

Crystal (Bournemouth 06)

The start of Rocktober. I could barely contain my excitement at the thought of a month seeing NO up and down the country. This was the opening song. Happy days.

Turn (Blackpool 06)

We’d had a brilliant day out. Blackpool Empress Ballroom is my favourite gig venue ever. Had a great laugh in the bars of Blackpool beforehand – well actually, in one bar - Blue. This was in the encore I think.

Who’s Joe (Glasgow 1st night 06)

I remember Emily couldn’t make this one and I rang her when it came on.

Your Silent Face (Glasgow 2nd night 06)

I was absolutely knackered by this gig and this song just hit the spot at the time.

Temptation (Wembley 06)

I remember me and Emily going mad to this one. Another great day out.

True Faith (Wolverhampton 06)

This is in my top three NO songs and always has been. I knew it was the end of our fun month so I felt a pang when I heard it. It’s a good job I didn’t know it was last time I’d ever hear NO live or I’d have been gutted.

Temptation- Rose Hill Hotel , Kilkenny , April 1983.A complete, no fuck ups performance (though of course would have been just as good with fuck ups).Just a solid rendering with a blistering break down towards the end finishing with just Steve hammering away on the drums.I'd taped the concert off Radio 1 in December 83 and was the first time i'd ever heard New Order live.Thought they sounded a bit cack at first but just kept on playing the cassette over and over again til i became so obsessed with it i used to rush home from school at lunchtime to just to play the bit with Temptation at full blast whilst me mum was out.Some other great versions of it like the Taras Shevchenko one but this one is special as it was me first experience of them live.

Sooner Than You Think - Brum Tower Ballroom, Oct 2nd 1986- Not a great version but it was my first ever New Order gig and this was the first song they did and seeing them in the flesh live and that electrical feeling for the first time is something that i can't ever get back

Do The Ostrich Sheffield Roxy , 8th June 1987 - Was at this gig-A fucked up messed up lovely end to a great night, a moment in time just before True Faith and Substance (and before the Americans and yuppies got in on them )

Ceremony - Reading 98- Had stood a little way back for the first couple of songs with my bro and a mate but when this kicked off i simply had to say to them "sorry but i just have to get down the front for the rest of the gig! " and left them standing and barged me way to the front I later found them after the gig and exclaimed how the gig had been better than sex with it being their return after 5 years.They raised skeptical eyebrows at this but id didn't give a fuck.

Everything's Gone Green - Rose Hill Hotel, Kilkenny, April 24th , 1983- same gig as Temptation that i've included alreadys.Just a blissful undescribable bass by Hooky on this one.Surely gives a better high than any drug his bass on this rendering?

Thieves Like us- Hacienda July 1983- Got the bootleg of this but wasn't there.Reminds me of the Play At Home documentary that was broadcast in August 84.Somehow that footage in the doc that accompanied the song gave goose pimps when i watched it on tape the following August afternoon.How could a lorry overtaking on some Manchester ring road on some unnamed afternoon be so poetic and romantic?

Krafty - Brixton Academy, Nov 10th , 2005- Could have been any song from that gig but i'll go for this one.Just a fantastic night.Thought this gig was miles above than any other i witnessed by them in 2005/2006, hands down.

Ruined In A Day - Reading 1993- The 'Ambient Mix' intro did it for me with a simple "Hello" from Barney

Face Up Wembley Arena, Dec 10th 1987. As one journalist put it nowhere else ever have i seen so many upturned heads, and a joyous mood as when they did that song at that gig although i was about 10 miles from the stage.

Blue Monday- Finsbury Park, June 9th, 2002.Never been a big Phil Cunningham fan but the guitar licks he added to this version do it fer me.Added a new feeling and dimension to the song

Sunrise Hacienda, Dec 1985.As Digi said the crowd reaction and the performance of it at this gig were out of this world.Wasn't there but still vividly recall watching it mesmerised on BBC2's The Whistle Test whilst taking a break from putting up the Christmas decorations at my Mother's house when i still lived there when i was 17

Procession Zurich Volskhaus, April 1984.Always was a favourite bootleg added to the fact it was a great FM radio recording and Barneys " Procession!... WHOO!" before the start.Temptation was also ace at this gig but as i've already included that form the Kilkenny gig it has to be Procession form this one.

I would never have bothered typing all that if i was sober so all that remains is for me to copy patse so it doesn't dissapear when i press submit.Let's hope it works..

Will have to think about this but looking at the excellent setlists above, theres a distinct lack of tracks from Technique, surprised no Vanishing Point as I aways thought that the best live track off the album.

Probably open with Love Vigilantes from Move.

Perfect Kiss Leeds Tiffs '85- First song first gig , memories have faded except for the sheer anticipation. Temptation Sheffield Octagon '85- First song of a stunning four song start, in the days when I had the energy, and so did they! LWTUA Royal Court Liverpool '86- Finally a JD song live, relished it when it was still a rarity. Ceremony Gmex Manchester '86-Mac.

Do the Ostrich Sheffield Roxy'87-Cracking climax to a great gig in great venue, shite city NO seem to like it though. Age of Consent Glastonbury '87- Only time i haven't been down the front for this one, stunned at how good it was or stoned! Sister Ray Glastonbury '87- A chaotic shambles, but bless 'em they're even good at this. Fine Time GMex '88- Crashed out at the back absolutely shagged, couldn't see them or half the crowd for the smoke.

AIIWIW Brendan Byrne New jersey '93- Absolute tosh on this tour, nice to see the audience bemused by this and sit down and put the lighters away. Regret Reading '98- For all the same reasons as others have mentioned, back and on form. Love Vigilantes Henry Kaiser Oakland '05-Classic song and surprised to hear it again. True Faith Wolves '86- Last song. Thanks very much, fuck off.

Fine Time Brum NEC March 26th 1989.Was at this gig.Not one of my fave tracks on record but i always thought Hooky's bass on it live was massive.He brought something out with it live that he didn't quite achieve on the recorded version. An all conquering , monolithic stadium blasting attack that not even the biggest arenas could handle.The rest of the song always sounded better live too.

Confusion Rose Hill Hotel, Kilkenny, April 24th 1983- The performance of it at this gig just builds and builds in intensity until Barney can't give any more and finally gives out with a "Why can't?!....... what you mean to me....."

Chosen Time Ukrainian National Home NY Nov 1981- Such an improvement on the recorded version (like all the Movement songs done live) ,ace synths- very cool performance of the song

Your Silent Face - Glastonbury 1987.Superb synth work from Gillian.A triumphant performance of the song that reached a vibe not easily achieved at other gigs.Some playful synth bits also after the end of the song by Gillian

Crystal Finsbury Park June 9th 2002.Some blistering guitar work by Barney on this one

This Time Of Night Tokyo Kossanaikan Hall April 1985.Nailed the intro with the electronics and drums,Spot on

Lonesome Tonight Hacienda July 1983.Turned up on the Play At Home doc - sublime keyboards by Gillian and great lyrics by Barney that differ slightly from the then as yet unrecorded version.Very dramatic.Essentially classic New Order that's impossible to beat.

Bizzare Love Triangle Brum NEC March 26th 1989.Was at this gig but unfortunately we were seated.This was the song that got us up out of our seats and going mental.A high.

Turn My Way Liverpool Olympia July 2001.Wasn't at this gig but have to admit Billy Corgam brought something great to the song on this occasion.The song seemed to capture the spirit the triumphant return gig

Waiting For The Sirens' Call Liverpool Summer Pops, July 2006.A high point of the gig when the music beat the wanker security guards and the tossers had to admit defeat to Hooky

In A Lonely Place Manchester Apollo July 1998.First time in years they'd played it and it sounded ace.Wonderful drum effects form Steve and a fitting tribute to Ian which Barney confirms with "Ian Curtis - rest in peace, man"

Weirdo Brum Tower Ballroom Oct 2nd 1986.Shutted that moaning heckler right up - "Hey we might be a pop group but you're a fuckin' wanker.... right... WEIRDO!! 1234 1234!!!"

The first comeback. Forced to come on early by Hothouse Flowers who obviously wanted to play as headliners to an empty hall. A mass exodus from the upstairs bar with pints flying as everyone jumped the stairs 3 at a time and piled down the front.

Me and Lorraine couldn't believe it when we heard the intro. Did you travel on the ahem 'luxury' bus, ferry with London Calling aswell Dave?

1.Ultraviolence-1982-08-30 the venue, blackpool, great version with a very retro version of the bass. Barney had millions of echoes, and the whole thing sounded like an LSD trip.

2.Lonesome Tonight-1984/07-07 Studio 54, Barcelona, Spain, a surprisingly awesome sounding bootleg. This track in particular has a very sad droning ending to the track, similar to the studio version.

3.Blue Monday-1989-07-17 Pine Knob Music Theatre, My god a string intro, akin to Depeche Mode's Never Let Me Down Again. Superb, especially when the synths kick in with the sequencer. A very nice rearrangement, with the grandeur of the Technique Era.

4.The Village-1984/07-07 Studio 54, Barcelona, Spain, Another great track off the bootleg, the band was in top form. Great drumming by Steve, and the sequencers with synths are beautiful.

5.Vanishing Point-1989-07-17 Pine Knob Music Theatre, Amazing, simply bliss version, such sorrow in such a tempo. This song sold me on the gig, thank goodness for this soundboard.

6.Leave Me Alone-Paradise Garage, New York 7th July 1983, A very rocky version of the song.

7.Bizarre Love Triangle-2005-07-10 Oxegen Festival Ireland FM, The sample that comes in after the first chorus, is simple electronic beauty.

8.Your Silent Face-1986 03-01 Spectrum Arena, Warrington, UK (glitchfree), The whole sound is so very ambient, very top notch sounding musicianship.

9.Round & Round-Reading '93, Very heartfelt delivery from Barney, and Hooky's bass all the way through gives it charm.

10.Regret-Reading '93, the sublime version of the song live, the recent arrangement just does not sound as good.

11.Dream Attack-1989 06-16 Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre, Irvine, CA, Just an all around great version of the track.

12.Temptation-2005-06-24 Hyde Park London XFM, The absolute best live fuck up when barney stops playing for a second, and phil messes with the samples, but amazing non the less.

Dream Attack on that Glasgow Extras DVD would take some beating. One of Barney's best recorded performances. How cruel of them to put Run Wild straight after!
