REGRET - Reading Festival 30/8/98 Superb opener after a five year abscence, I went with Jase and Ren and it was really drawn out first here
IN A LONELY PLACE - Le Palace, Paris 17/4/82, toss up between this version and Glastonbury 81. This version wins for Barney's change of lyrics 'A light that shines down from above, a light that is guided by love'.
HURT - Studio 54 7/7/84, my favourite New Order track from a great Soundboard recording.
CHOSEN TIME - Ukranian National Home New York 19/Nov/81, a forgotton classic, and still looks and sounds great on the dvd.
MR DISCO - SECC Glasgow 25/3/89 Great opener, great beat and I lost my shoe for sevaral minutes - mayhem!
PERFECT KISS - RFH London 14/May/84 - Superb early version - 'cock like the M1' only problem was we had to sit down.
FACE UP - RFH 14/May/84 - Great version, Hooky seems to be wrestling with a monster, the Bass is running away with him. Different early lyrics -ace! (and genuinally drawn out after PK).
TEMPTATION - Tower Ballroom, B'ham 9/5/83 - What a gig remember going mental when they started with LWTUA. This has to be the best version of Temptation ever, 'and Iv'e never seen such cunt's quite like you before'.
THE VILLAGE - Powerhouse B'ham 3/6/84 - Tense packed gig (as they all were), nice version. remember Hooky and Barney walking past me and being suprised at how short they were lol.
SUNRISE - Hacienda 3/12/85 Only saw this on telly, still watch it now - great looking crowd and supercharged band.
CEREMONY - Brixton Academy 10/11/05 - Love my Digi Mike recording for the Viking singalong - Happy times!
DO THE OSTRICH - Woolwich Coronet 2/4/87 - Great old venue, and what an encore I hadn't heard anything like it (they played Atmosphere before it) I HAD to get the Bootleg.

Hurt - Studio 54 - Steve! he just seems to be extra nuts at this gig, hard choice but this is my fav from this gig
All The Way - Glasgow - perfect summer song, the best ever summer track just reminds me off 18hr bbq's until the wee hours
Perfect Kiss - Glasgo the BBC CD - for me this is a perfect version and if could go back in time to one event it would be this.
Ceremony - Ukranian National Home New York - just cos its a little slower barney's quiet for once
Love Will Tear Us Apart, from the 2006 Man v Cancer gig at the MEN - as colin said, its wasn't just barney with the come-ons, everyone just went nuts and the women next to us began to pass the joints out
EGG - Hac '83 - again hard choice out of this gig cos its all a cracker, but steve's drumming on this is just well fucking ace
Temptation - Ukranian National Home New York - i just like seeing barney get eletrocuted
Thieves Like us - Hacienda July 1983 - again cos this is another bbq song people always ask wtf is this? when i reply NO they never believe m, for them NO just cant do a tune like this, wankers
Procession - Ritz - i just love this version, for me its the best ever version!
all time favourite though has to be - Age Of Consent - Athens '82 - ace version same bout steve not being so clear, but for this line "oh i wish i was black and i knew how to suck dick"

Atmosphere - Heaven soundcheck 1981, no vocals but very emotional & the song wouldn't get played again for some time at a gig.
Ceremony - Granada TV April 1981. Barney hits the low notes on his intro perfectly, just this once.
Taboo#7 - Sheffield Poly September 1981. Another instrumental but work in progress and you just knew it was going to end up a great song.
Temptation - North London Poly January 1982. QED. Some cock had jumped up on the stage during Ceremony and had received the PH stamp of disapproval. Always remember a loudmouth Cockney shouting out 'av a go Peetah' just before Temptation kicks in.
The Village - Paris Palace FM April 1982. Early version with much more oomph than what ended up on PCL, never to be bettered imo.
Leave Me Alone - Newcastle Mayfair March 1982. Pass the razor blades...or pass the aspirin, achingly beautiful version.
We All Stand - forget which gig this was now, thought it was Milan but nope. Sings about the 'old Casbah in Cairo'. Another song not quite to standard on PCL.
Ultraviolence - just about any of the 1982 gigs, ditto the comment above
Age of Consent - Deeside September 1982. Another slowhand early version so not the rock-along it grew to be. Just perfect though.
Chosen Time - LA Florentine June 1983. Loud, bassy and fast, closely followed by similar takes on AoC and Temptation. Good combo...
Bizarre Love Triangle - Hemel Hempstead November 1985. Make it up as you go along version but all the melodies came through, not smoked and mirrored like the song went on to become.
The Perfect Kiss - Hemel Hempstead November 1985. PH's finest 8 mins I think, kept the song going through three full choruses and stole the show.

Bit late but never mind. Memories fade but New Order were always as memorable for what they did as much as what they played so list includes memorable events where I can remember!
We All Stand Bournemouth Town Hall 12/83 First gig first song, we didn't like it they were just teasing us cos they played Ceremony straight after. Bernard said only one thing throughout the entire gig, you can guess already, when someone said rather optimistically "Cheer up Bernard” he said "F**k off" the rest of the band said nothing at all, not even between themselves.
Temptation Portsmouth Town Hall 12/84 the first time I saw the song live. The band had cheered up a lot in 12 months it was like seeing a different band they obviously were a lot happier playing the newer songs. Bernard thanked the lads for what they did during the Falklands before admitting that, that probably wasn’t many of us and he was right.
Love Will Tear Us Apart Poole Arts Centre 03/86 last song played and first time I saw the song live. Two days earlier I had seen a hapless fan(who may have been German) ask Hookey innocently for an autograph outside his hotel in Oxford, whereupon Hookey went “Aaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!” and then chased him down the street with his guitar and case still in his hand. It was very funny.
Ceremony 06/86 It must have originally seemed like a good idea to play after the Smiths but two hours after the Smiths played what was a career defining gig and a life changing experience for many of the audience New Order were never going to be able to follow the scenes of mass hysteria that had greeted Morrissey's arrival on stage earlier. Still they tried, like most of the NO gigs at the time it was a dodgy start with a bit of a lull in the middle and a triumphant end despite Ian Mculloch’s attempts to forget as many words as possible to Ceremony even though he had them written on a bit of paper. First time I saw the “Hang John Robbie” T shirts. Also saw a great “Barney cut” on the balcony at the HAC the night before. My friend said “F*ck me that’s a good Barney cut”, whereupon said person turned round rather frostily and my friend went “Oh F*ck me it is Barney”, before we scarpered downstairs sharpish.
Atmosphere/Do The Ostrich Woolwich Coronet 04/87 we wound Bernard up throughout the gig, he was constantly asked to tell a joke and at one point was about to until the band cut him off by starting the next number.. When he announced the last song we all cheered ironically which exasperated him enormously (considering what they had planned) "but we've got the encore yet!" spluttered Bernard and we all just laughed because none of us had ever seen them play an encore. Then our jaws dropped to the floor as they did an encore of Joy Division’s most beautiful song and an unreleased song, about a bird
Age Of Consent Finsbury Park 06/87 the gig was in a tent the barrier at the front of the stage was in a constant state of near collapse throughout the gig and was being worked on by roadies using sledgehammers throughout. People were being crushed, the band were worried Hookey stepped up to the microphone and said if we all moved back he'd buy us all a packet of crisps, There was then a short pause while Hooky could have been trying to work out how many packets of crisps he needed or he could have been contemplating what was about to follow he then started to play the first few chords of Age Of Consent and pandemonium broke out. Also notable for the support band who was pestered through out by what we thought was a stage invader in a floppy hat who didn’t appear to do anything except nod his head up and down. Welcome to the Happy Mondays.
Sister Ray 12/87 Last song and nice to see for the first time but a relief that the gig was finished as the place was f**king horrible and so wrong for NO.
Run Big World TV Show Brixton Academy 23/03/89 This was no TOTP style show where the producers have to prod the audience to dance this was a full on mosh pit. Bizarrely New Order played on a second, smaller stage built into the auditorium which meant we were stuffed in like sardines between two cameramen who gamely tried to film proceedings while not falling over from the crush. New Order played 5 songs 4 of which they had never played live before. Not bad considering it was free to get in, although I personally had to pay £5 to one of the brothers. Also quite enjoyed the six takes it took Eagle Eye Cherry to introduce them EEC “Please welcome…” New Order fans “F**K off!” “Cut, go again...” and so on
Every Little Counts Reading 08/89 The Good Old days when festivals sold days tickets got there one hour before New Order were on and paid £15 on the gate, walked/wriggled right up to the second row just in time for them to come on. Hundreds of people shouted the "I Think You Are a Pig" line back at Bernard.
Crystal Paris Olympia 2001 Memorable in so many ways first of all was the shock of seeing Alan Wise walking on to introduce them. I hadn't seen him since I saw him introduce Revenge at a Hacienda club night in Paris in 1990 and I assumed he was still selling the Big Issue on the streets of Manchester "Manchester is a Grey Northern town..." he said by way of introducing Revenges debut gig. The sound that they made when Crystal started was extraordinary and the place went nuts. This gig was a very big deal in Paris, it was the first time they had played there in 14 years. Had the pleasure of seeing my bald (shaved) head bouncing up and down at the front a week later on French TV when they showed film of the concert. Also recorded by Bernard Lenoir, how ironic see below.
Digital Paris Le Zenith 2002 In what was a rarities laden set (Digital, Brutal, Atmosphere) Bernard gleefully asked if there were any Joy Division fans in that night and if there were, they were in luck as they were playing several JD songs that night.. When Hookey asked if anybody had been at “Les Bains” no hands went up. However there were several people there who had listened to it live on Bernard Lenoir’s radio show at the time when he famously stopped broadcasting it half way through because he said it was “shit”. He was wrong they were right!
