NO reissues: a clue to the bonus material

You make a good point, they've become like depeche mode, not even being able to be interviewed together. The thing that I do enjoy most about New Order is their accidents made them infamous.

Could someone please tell how much the members are actually involved in these reissues? why do i get thet feeling that only Hoooky is involved? or better, is he actually involved?

i mean all this talking about the reissues and what should or should not be on them...if the band is not involved (which i think is happing since they have split up and haven't spoke to each other for over a year or so) then it's just a money making thing from record company. remasterd stuff with the same old shite of remixes and stuff we have already seen on countless collections/compilations or whatever..

However, if they are involved i do hope they will make an effort out of it but seeing the state of the band right now (and the glasgow dvd unfortunately, well im meant the sloppy layout)i fear dissapointment.

I do look forward to the remasterd versions of the old albums though..:\ohwell:

Cool, my point is that this particular story is over now.

Cards on the table time, and the opportunity to get chapter and verse on one of the best bands of all time, and one last fantastic opportunity for a reassessment of their back catalogue that stays true to the original ethos of Factory Records and also offers new insight so that our experience is enriched by a slightly new perspective on that which we thought we new inside and out. Like finding out that your wife was well into ana.... you get my point.

If we get that, great. If we don't, reading the witty, abusive vitriol that will surely follow on this forum is some kind of consolation. The weird shitty empty kind of consolation. But consolation nonetheless.

I'll believe that when I see it. We're getting conflicting reports here, Hooky says live stuff, elsewhere I've heard related B-sides and remixes. Time is short for anything that involves digging through archives, they're supposed to be out in Sept.

You've got me excited. This being New Order, though, let's just hope it actually happens.

It won't be exactly the same format as the JD remasters... studio stuff too I understand..... and there will also be an outlet for live audio afficionados .....more soon.

You couldn't apply the same format to New Order anyway - completely different band that embraced remixes and gigged like fuck and have a much more substantial body of work behind them - the same format as the JD reissues would have been plain stupid

Like I said, I'm guessing it'll be more like The Cure reissues.

Hello everyone, first time poster here.

I think the Cure remasters are a good 'template' - I got the 2CD version of Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me and it seems a well thought-out release, a whole second disc of rarities including live versions, demos and alternative takes. Of course I'm not a big enough Cure fan to know how rare these rarities are, but it seems some care has gone into it. I only hope something similar happens for New Order, as London/Warners' handling of their musical legacy has been pretty shoddy so far. The Best Of from 1994 set the tone, trying to present New Order as an edgier version of the Pet Shop Boys or something. Compare that to the masterful Substance collections that Factory released. Hopefully the inclusion of the rare footage on the Glasgow DVD is a sign of change.

No need for "remastered" Substance if they put all the stuff on the bonus discs... but as said this opens the door for yet another "best of/ singles" comp. Hell, might as well give it another try to get it right.

The Substance 2nd CD was probably of little interest to many less "hardcore fan" buyers anyway, so kinda not worth rereleasing in that form, thou I personally love many of the tracks.

Substance opened my eyes and ears to a new side of New Order. The remasters offer so much potential, but i'm worried they won't match expectations.

I only noticed last night how many b-sides there are that have appeared on singles over the years that I hadn't heard of before. I sent Hooky a message through myspace and he confirmed the likes of MTO, Sabotage, Don't Do It, Dub Vulture, etc, would all appear on the remasters. Can't wait!

Thats fine, but most people have all these tracks on various formats anyhow..... I'm hoping for something i havent heard or seen before on these discs.....

I absolutely do not see the point of remastering Get Ready or WFTSC.What more could it possibly give you of albums that were released 5 fookin' minutes ago,already subject to the latest recording techniques that the Factory-era produced albums weren't.It can't offer anything 'new'.& as for putting the likes of the Get Ready/WFTSC b-sides on the bonus discs,again,why? We have already got all that,it's just pointless & starts to smack of the recent marketing rip-off of re-releasing albums 6 months after they were initially released,as 'special editions' with an extra track or some shit,so us loyal fans buy it again.As has been said,Warners should start respecting this bands material,what they stand for,& it's fookin' fans.

Everyone's chattin' about this so I thought I'd add my proverbial hapennyworth. Basically with relatively few actual songs spread over so many repackagings, I reckon it's time for something definitive - think 'Heart and Soul' or 'One True Passion V2.0' rather than 'Retro' (WORLD and no THIEVES LIKE US???!) or 'International'. With the improbability of any nw material surley this is the opportunity to do it once and for all.

Yeah good news! I forgot to mention in me last post but I wasn't up for live CDs. I've been listening (on and off) around 20 years and I've got live stuff coming out of my bottom.

I just hope that London Records reads the forums of New Order sites as well.

Last years JD remasters were OK. if it only was for the sleeves and the sound upgrade. But the real 'misser' was that they 'forgot' Substance (1988). A real shame because a lot of JD-singles aren't remastered in the same way the albums were.

So if they really doing the reissues/remasters for New Order, I like to see a few changes:

-Please use the bonus discs (if there aren't bonus discs then the fanbase will get REALLY angry with London and Warners) for studio material and NO stupid gigs/concerts. A lot of N/O concerts are shit audio so we really don't need these in the remaster series for the 80's albums of New Order. Maybe some other time on some separate live discs like the J/D ones (Preston & Les Bains Douches for example).

-Please use official b-sides, 7 inch & 12 inch versions and DON'T FORGET the whole Elegia on the Low Life remaster because a lot of the fans (most of them) couldn't get their hands on that fuckin' 5th Retro disc back in 2002. But that whole Retro-project was a farce if you ask me so don't get me started.

-If Substance 1987 is not included in the remaster-series, then be sure that ALL those tracks can be traced back on the corresponding N/O albums 2nd discs as bonus tracks etc.

Furthermore I think that for the original artwork we can walk the same road as the J.D ones. Maybe some extra inside folders will do the complete trick artwise.

They were all remastered on the Heart & Soul box set. Yes the albums were remastered again for last year's reissues, but I would argue there's nothing wrong with the sound on the Heart & Soul box set.

Agree with the comments about the artwork. After reading the interview with Hooky that Tim posted I'm increasingly hopeful that the forthcoming reissues will deliver the goods.

Pash: I agree with you ofcourse ... the Heart & Soul box set was a tremendous box set back in december 1997. London records did well on all of the studio tracks of Joy Division. And I don't really think a sound upgrade was necesarry in 2007.

When it happened last year, I was surprised that Substance 1988 wasn't included in the series. But it's not very important because we (as die hard fans) have the Heart & Soul box set which is great.

What I was trying to say was: I only hope that for the New Order series of upgrades/reissues they don't forget the tracks on Substance 1987. But I really hope they release them in the FULL VERSIONS as we know them on 12 inch. So we don't want an edit of The Perfect Kiss, Sub Culture and Shellshock. We want the real deal.

We deserve it after all this time ... we have waited for so long ... let's not waist this series of album-remasters. Let's do it the RIGHT way.

The same for Run2 and it's extended version, MTO and it's extended version: WE WANT ALL OF THE TRACKS THAT DIDN'T MAKE IT ON CD BEFORE. Please.
