its only my humble opinion, i dont mean to talk nonsense, but from my point of view it was their peak, i,ve gotta say republics my least fave album of the lot, i hope really that they havent peaked yet!! and that they hit us with a real blinder sometime soon

According to my up to date record sales statistics book Technique sold much much more than Republic. London Records "distributed" more copies of Republic but most were "returned". It was such as dismal effort I wouldn't be surprised if London records bought half the sales themselves to get it a decent chart place - so put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Aye ...I'd concur that "Technique" was their most "accomplished" album in that it WAS one of their most successful, but like a few other posters here I'd have to beg to differ on whether it was as essential a New Order album as either "Low Life" or "Brotherhood".

I've banged on enough about how I have always considered "Low Life" to be the quintessential New Order album (simply cos it features every single thing we love about the band all in one nice neat diverse package - from moody stuff to throwaway stuff and all points in between...), besides, "Technique" - although probably the band's best produced album - which is fooking incredible when one considers how much they were out of it during the making of the damn thing!

• doesn't have the edge that "Brotherhood" or "LL" before it possessed. It's a very happy New Order record - relatively speaking that is.... And of course, the nit picking pedants amongst us would rather our heroes be on gloriously neurotic and symphonic form ("LL" and "Brotherhood" respectively) rather than just merely popping those happy pills and dreaming about where their next cocaine fix was coming from....

Of course, after "Technique", the band DID deliver us back another profoundly miserable album - but then of course it was "miserable" for all the wrong reasons....

wasn't technique the height of their popularity? dunno, too young to remember damnit!

In terms of chart success maybe, but World in Motion was a bit false insofar that it was done for a target market, namely the football craze that always sweeps England before the World Cup.

There have been several peaks over the years, Blue Monday, True Faith, Regret being just three. The band were probably at their peak around the True Faith era, though they may see it differently !
