Ok - recent threads have thrust the older heads and their gigging experiences in the spotlight. (Brian/Huntsman etc) So what have been our best ever gigs?

Here are mine - although I'm hoping that the Apollo or Brixton Get Ready gigs will surpass even these classics

This is a tough one to call and the dates may be a bit out, but here goes...

NO, Tower Ballroom 1986 (1st NO gig)
NO, Liverpool Olympia 2001(Hadn't seen them since Reading '93)
ACR, Subterannia, London 1991?? (just like the Rio carnival)
Massive Attack, Barrowlands 1998?? (great venue, cookin' tunes)
The Housemartins, Brum Powerhouse 1986
Orbital, Edinburgh 1996? (shite venue but in 2nd row)
NO, Brixton Academy 1987 (The AIDS benefit with Bronksi Beat!)
ACR, International Manchester 1990? (they did Flight)
Run DMC/Beastie Boys, Brum Odeon (1987??)( a big inflatable cock came out of the stage!)
Madness, Brum Odeon (memorable as my first 'proper' gig 1985)

some good ones there Mr D - Massive were good at the Hacienda. Another good "gig" were yje Beloved in 1991 - at the Hacienda. They came on so late that they gave bottles of champers to what was left of the crowd at about 1 am

I was at G-Mex 88 as well but can't really remember the gig (and I wasn't even drunk) otherwise that could of got in the Top Ten. I forgot about Kraftwerk as well. 'Happiness' - what a great album that was. I bought the 12" of Loving Feeling as well but never heard any of their later stuff apart from Sweet Harmony which was excellent as well.

I remember Electronic opening with Get the Message at Cities in the Park, did Neil Tennent come on that day for Getting Away With It?

Jeez I'd forgotten that one! The timing was incredible - it rose from the stage just as one of the Beasties put a tin of recently shook up Bud on the tip and, well, you get the picture...

The Odeon was fantastic for gigs in the eighties. Bunnymen, Banshees, Damned, Stranglers, Cure...always sent tingles down the old spine knowing that Joy Division had played there...

No Neil Tennant at Cities in the Park. Revenge alswo played - including a cover of Dreams Never End. Didn't go down too well.

The Beloved have releaed a couple of good albums since Happiness. X was ok - deliver me and satellite were good. A lot of the new stuff is very trancy since Jon Marsh turned into a DJ

I must've done all those Subterrania gigs - they did one about every 4 months got about 5 years, yes! Have got setlist from about 5 of them (low stage so easy to swipe at the end). Can't remember if any standout but do remember seeing Hooky (in long hair phase) dressed in a trenchcoat at one and he was with Mal from the Cabs who was dressed all in white!! Halcyon days!

I'm on those muppets who left straight after Perfect Kiss to catch a train back into London, so missed Atmosphere (then a rarity), and DTO. Do you remember the Wonder Stuff as support and bottles raining down on them on stage? Also remember seeing the Welsh bloke off Eastenders in the audience - the one who got the band together with Kelvin and Sharon!!

Tolworth Recreation Center (right near me...) 1981(?) Kilburn National Ballroom - May '82 Nottingham Palais - June '84 Royal Albert Hall - Nov. '86 Wembley Arena - Can't remember, but my ticket is scanned in the concerts section. Temptation - Alexandra Palace

Other gigs:

Conflict, Surbiton Assembly Rooms Cardiacs - Fetcham Riverside Club Subhumans - The Richmond, Brighton Stranglers - Brixton Academy (or was it The Fridge?)

I'm too old, my mind is going, there is no question about it...

the temptation gig at the Nynex Arena was an interesting gig. Despite the fact that there were DJs and Underworld playing - most of the fans left after New Order had played.

MR DISCO, Ive seen New Order 20 (Twenty) times, and have some great memories, and a live tape for each gig, sorry about the repeat posting earlier, erm i messed up

Mr Disco, Tower Ballroom in 86' was a classic and if my memory serves me right, support was from the Wonderstuff and Happy Monday's with New Order on stage very late, hence memory of set list impaired by beer consumption.

My first NO gig was also at the Tower but in April 1985 and still ranks as my best ever (set was mainly Low Life but with Denial, Age Of Consent, Temptation and Leave Me Alone thrown in for good measure)!

I take it from your reference to a certain leisure centre that you are, as am I, from the Blue half of Birmingham.

I'll post my top 10 soon.

Following on from Mr. Garrities post about trading live recordings - not wanting to steal his thunder, but I keep forgetting to mention to Swany / Jarvo and the boys and girls that I have the famous G-Mex ACR/NO/Happy Mondays gig of 1988 on tape. Anyone wants this please let me know - I'd be happy to make a couple of copies.

For all of you 'Dream Attack' lovers - I was fumbling in my loft the other day and came across a bootleg album (vinyl) that I bought from a Record Fayre ages ago of a Glasgow S.E.C.C. NO gig around the same time as the G-Mex ('89/'89?) one above. Now, nothing special perhaps, but, the quality is outstanding and the recording of Dream Attack a real gem. Anyone go to this gig and/or wants it please let me know. Would be interested if anyone has this odd rareity - its got a sun on the cover and the cover background colour is pink!

Mike - 20 times witnessing the order, you must be a very, very special person.

If we're talking New Order here I'll go with -

Brixton 87 - Dreams NE following Ceremony! New Order, THE best support band ever. Not a slow song in sight!
G-Mex 88 - the ultimate comeback gig, and they'd only been away for One Year! How we'd missed them. The ruck for Age of Consent went back a mile or more.
Germany 93 - 100 Brits on the piss getting seriously sunburned. Everyone with shirts off down the front for New Order!
T&C 86 - opening with Ceremony while the houselights were still up. Moved about 20ft left and my shoe stayed where it was. Moved 20ft right again to find my shoe - thankfully - still there!
Apollo 98 - second best comeback gig.
Olympia 01 - third best comeback gig, fantastic reunion in the pub beforehand! 7 Finsbury Park 87 - the stage buckling under the weight of fans during ACR's set. Bez refusing to get offstage once the Mondays had finished. 8 Dublin 93 - terrible comeback gig but, most importantly, made friends for life at this one. 9 Roskilde 93 - jumped on a plane at 24hrs notice with the record company not even being able to confirm/deny if/when the band were actually on. Good craic with Scandy lads down the front - too many Man U shirts for comfort though! 10 LA 01 - best of a bad bunch really. Well, not 'bad' but tame by English standards. Cracking holiday, mind.

Bottom of the pile - Vancouver 01 (it rained, no beer), Wembley 87 (seats, had to watch the band from about a mile back), Germany 01 (again, a bloody mile back!), Reading 93 (felt more like a wake - never thought I'd see them again), Albert Hall 86 (gave away my bloody ticket - WHAT A MUG!).

Allen, was that a reference to Steve Mallinder from Cabaret Voltaire? I only ask because these days he resides in my rather isolated city, working at a record store, DJing and he cuts some mad grooves in a local breakbeat/funk outfit.. I think I'm the only one in Perth who liked his shit way back then.. I find it odd that he ended up here- ... A fu*#ing long way from Sheffield!!!
