Remember them well. I *think* there was a group of them drinking outside the pub over the road from the Olympia in July. We've all aged a bit since though. Seem to remember a few had New Order tattoos? And Hooky dedicated BLT to them at the Festival of the 10th Summer.

Kept up the 'shorts' tradition throughout the summer gigs (even in the freezing rain in Vancouver!) though will probably give 'em a miss for the forthcoming shows. Did Wembley in shorts in 87 and it was fucking parky to say the least!!
Perhaps we could have 'The Vikings' booming out on the PA too - would be like the good ol' days!

Allen, was that a reference to Steve Mallinder from Cabaret Voltaire? I only ask because these days he resides in my rather isolated city, working at a record store, DJing and he cuts some mad grooves in a local breakbeat/funk outfit.. What? Steve Mallinder lives in Perth now? Yes, it was him I was talking about. Dunno if you read Ceremony at all, but I've just posted a rumour there about a possible 'Down Under' tour in 2002. Heard it from a reputable source. Like I said though, it's just hear'say so don't quote me on it.

Phil, you're joking? Thought 'Dreams Never End' was the highlight of the day! Everyone rushed to the front for it. And Hooky dedicated it to Martin Hannett which was supposedly who the day was in honour of (Hooky was the only one to mention his name all day, too!).

ACR's Jez mentioned Martin Hannett as he got everybody to blow their whistle in tribute.

I'm struggling with tape to taping at the moment though - I still owe Chris P a tape (I haven't forgotten!)

I lost a shoe at the Brixton '87 gig as well and remember walking round Piccadily Circus in the rain trying to find a bus back to Paddington.

Does anyone remember them appearing on a show called the Big World Cafe at Brixton, I remember getting free tickets for this one and someone had an inflatable dolphin down the front! (It musy have been around the time of the inflatable bananas fad at the football).
The dolphin got good coverage on telly, but I think Alex and his inflatable skeleton got good coverage too as he waved it in a shot behind Mariella Frostrup (I think it was?)
I think the skeleton even got mentioned in a review of the AIDS benefit, 87.

Was this the show on a Sunday morning? I vaguely remember sending off for tickets for some NO TV appearance around the time of Woolwich - maybe this was the one? Did Barney have a white Bloggs top on? 'The Roxy' was ironic too - Barney with his 'Don't Do Drugs' t-shirt.
I can't remember when it was broadcast and can only recall them playing Round&Round. I think the Big World Cafe was meant to be some sort of follow on after the demise of the Tube but I don't think it ever really caught on. There was some bailing banshee of a women on piano as well. As you can imagine before filming started the Directors of the show were trying to get people to cheer all the other acts but it didn't quite work. Needless to say it was only when the Order played that there was any type of atmosphere.
Al, I remember the skeleton now you mention it, it seemed to glow in the dark.
I have not been as fortunate as some of you english cats. the gorge show in august was the only time i have ever seen new order. i did send away for the cdrom anthology from Lars so i can play catch-up a little when it arrives.
I have the LA show on CD and it sounds good but to see the sun set over the Gorge during True Faith was transcendent. the rainbow was sent from an angel and when the synth came in on Your Silent Face i thought my life was complete. i still have not returned to my regular self after that show now more than a month ago. it may not have been the Town & Country in 86 but for now, it's all i have. Meeting the english faction was essential to the overall experience at Area:One. hopefully the anthology will include some of these shows you guys are talking about.
ps. you can clearly hear Allen etc. yelling Ceremony on the Vancouver disc. that and "New Order" chants. perfect. Barney says something like "we aren't going to play that song because it fucking sucks" perfectly perfect.
pss. speaking of perfect, i picked up a near mint copy of The Perfect Kiss 12" Friday while casually strolling down broadway in Seattle. $5.75. the sleeve now hangs nicely above my turntables in a simple black frame.
Aah,yes.Big World Cafe.Bloody dire programme. Broadcast in 1990.Got it on video.N.O were the best band ever to appear on it.They played Vanishing Point,Round and Round,and Run. On that particular program was a feature on Belgian New Beat,which was supposed to be all the rage. Most gigged weekend for me was seeing Kraftwerk at Brixton on Friday and Saturday on their Mix tour,then Morrissey on Sunday.Boy,was I f**ked after that.

As for the circle t-shirts, fuck I just can't remember what your meaning there - my memories shite, it rings a bell... can you describe it? - was it around the time of the 'Summer '88' t-shirt (I had that) - the one Barney was wearing on the pucker True Faith video under his blue shirt?
I'll fetch my S.E.C.C. gig out and post it when I've got it onto CD. Anyone who wants a copy is welcome, I don't want any money. (don't fucking shoot me if it isn't the right gig) - it is an excellent recording though - best I've ever heard of a live bootleg event.
... so, for the upcoming gigs - who's hair style is light brown, slightly floppy at the top with a no. 1 on the sides (me - for one). Come on, admit it...........

The ticket was orange with silver inter-connecting circles on it, and the t-shirt mirrored the ticket but was white with orange interconnecting circles - with New Order, ACR and Happy Mondays listed one under the other. Classy!
... its like talking to a human memory bank. Now, I remember. Circles on the tickets now firmly back in my short-term memory department. Shocking the I forgot the orange/silver combination... tremendous. If I find it in 'me loft... I'll scan it.
Too poor at the time to buy a t-shirt - but now, well, I think I could afford to borrow some for a Get Ready T-shit (wonder if I could still get away with buying a medium, mmmm, maybe a large..... x-large?)
