Best Glastonbury appearance!!!

Errrmmm... don't want to be a party pooper, but never really felt New Order stole Glasto.

The Radiohead performance in massive adversity in 97 tops it for me, cos i was there. Orbital's regular mad stints come a close second.

Seems to be mentioned 'cause they played three times rather than one oustanding performance. The last appearance (with the pantomime horse) was just shoddy.

All personal opinions again, the only benefit of something like this they spark debate.

Surprised Iggy and the Stooges 2007 isn't there and though not a fan, I thought Ian Brown was fantastic the same year.

I saw all 3 New Order gigs at Glastonbury and have to agree with Burt that they never really set the place alight.

Difficult to pick a top ten from all the time I have been but here goes:-

Ive only been to Glasto twice (95 and 97). Was gutted that Stone Roses dropped out but their replacement (Pulp) were absolutely fantastic. Not surprised they won best live act of the year in some magazine or something.

I have to agree on Radiohead with you. They were truely great. They made all the rain and mud worth it. Plus the fireworks that were going off added to the atmosphere of their performance.

Pulp Schmulp!! They were much better the year before. Anyone who was anyone in 1995 was getting over the Roses' absence by throwing bottles at Evan Dando prior to catching Portishead at the peak of their powers in the acoustic tent.

He was supposed to play earlier in the day but went AWOL - this was around the point where he was clearly no longer in control of his drug use. He turned up later, they re-scheduled his set which in turn delayed Portishead's appearance. Folk were not amused, hence he got bottled. It was a shame, 'cos he was actually very good. Having said that, I will always applaud unfeasibly good looking people getting hit on the bonce with plastic bottles filled with warm cider. Which was probably, in fact, piss.

Portishead were huge at this point: "Dummy" was all you could hear being played on the campsite at night that year. They should really have been headlining one of the two main stages, but as late additions they were shunted into the woefully inadequate space of said acoustic tent. I've seen them three times since and they're always amazing, but that night was really, really special.

Caught the famous Orbital performance in 1994 and fantastic Saturday afternoon set from St Etienne the same weekend. Also went in 95 but can't recall any memorable sets. Orbital again, that time on the Pyramid but not as good as 94. Ain't been since!

I remember watching on telly and aye , my feelings at the time were similar. It was almost desperate when the pantomime horse came on. Bit of a mixed night really - I was still on a high after attending the Hyde Park gig the night before and was still hungover/pissed again but i got too pissed and into all sorts of complications trying to navigate back and forth with the red button highlights and the actual live transmission

I also just really felt sorry for them in a way, playing to a field full of Coldplay fans.

Still, was great to see them doing Crystal live (or maybe slightly delayed transmission?) at 7pm on BBC3 on a Saturday evening. Although it probably wasn't the best performance they've done of that song to be honest. Slightly amusing how they caught Edith Bowman , that Irish bloke and the BBC out for a minute or so by not coming back on to do Blue Monday.

looked at that top 10 and none from the 3 times ive been,have i missed it all then well i seemed to have missed all the new order ones. just thinking,wasnt the last new order at glasso the day before wireless at hyde park ?. anyway ermm,the Arcade fire one was ace in 2007 and Ed harcourt same year.

They played Hyde Park on the Friday night and then Glastonbury on the Saturday night. Went to the Hyde Park gig then got wasted on the Saturday night at home watching them on telly doing Glast

Most of the set was straight out of Snivilisation wasn't it, which hadn't even been released then?

They did open with the first track off Snivilisation if i recall, aye. Can't remember the name of the track off the top of my head but i thought it worked well as the opener. They did a fair few songs off the then yet to be released album yeah but my best memories off the gig were Halcyon, Lush etc. Went down a treat with a bit of poppers:)
