Hi,
Here's the "Low Life" LP re-issue from Rhino found yesterday in a Record Shop from Barcelona. Look at the large space between "OR" and "DER"! Every copy that I've seen in the Barcelona's record shops have the same problem on the cover.
Rhino have announced that New Order's LP re-issues have the original artwork... But, where's the tracing paper outer?
(excuse my bad english guys... I know it's terrible)
Not too briliantly done, the font is different (look at the 'e'). Obviously the artwork has had to be redone digitally since the original material is long gone, it would have originally been a camera ready paste-up job on card, which was then photographed and films produced (also lost no doubt).
No real surprise on the tracing paper front, too expensive to produce these days for what is a relatively small run compared to the sort of numbers they would have manufactured back in 1985.
The correct font is Neuzeit.
If I could reproduce The Perfect Kiss sleeve from scratch for Recycle, this should have been much easier.
I have zero faith in the label to handle any of the back catalog at this point.
I wonder if they corrected the dropout in Sunrise for the vinyl reissue...
Edit: Just noticed the Rhino UK website has an image (advertising the vinyl bundle) which appears to show that the spacing of the letters has been fixed. Might be a mock-up though...

I don't think so. Joy Division's "Still" LP re-issue from Rhino/Warner had the "hessian sleeve" as the original Factory release. Why JD and NO receive different treatments from the same record label? Joy Division have great remastered CDs, but New Order don't. Joy Division have nice 180g heavyweight vinyls with original artwork, but New Order don't...

Yes, it seems that the images shown on the Rhino's website were based on the CD re-issues. "Movement" appears with "FACD" on the front cover, but the long plays that I saw in the record shops have "FACT" printed as the original one.

The difference is no one is making a film about New Order, or a documentary. It will consequently sell a lot less.
I'm not saying it's impossible to reproduce, just not all that viable.

Thought it was quite funny that on the Rhino New Order page they have someones rant about the remasters prominently on display with the logo "Rhino : the home of great music" in the background!

I'm starting to think they're doing this just to wind us up. Could it possibly get any worse? I bet they've made some mistake with Technique where it has got Shame Of The Nation in place of Dream Attack.
So I expect we should be getting "corrected" LPs by 2011?
I have updated the CD error listing (sticky thread), detailing these new errors that were introduced with the vinyl reissues. Those unfortunate enough to have bought these or have been able to inspect them closely, please keep listing what you've found.
if they could put all the mistakes on the vinyls and make some true remasters on CD, it would be great...

I did the download of "Low Life" in the Rhino's Vinyl Plus website and the channel drop on "Sunrise" were not corrected.
Why does none of this surprise me??? Rhino / Warners must be complete fuckwits. They got the typeface completely OUTRAGEOUSLY wrong on the shitty CD issues (courier I tell you!!), and even now they can't get it right - and to add insult to injury, they can't even check that they got the kerning / spacing right this time. Utter utter utter fucking useless.

Oh dear oh dear.
I hate to add to the avalanche of whinging (too late) but I saw these purely by accident in HMV Piccadilly Circus today and they were going for £17 a pop. The Low-life artwork error stood out like a sore thumb. I picked them up mulling over a possible purchase but then remembered I have all the original Factory vinyl in pretty good condition in storage and this new lot don't have half the class. £17 as well? A bit excessive?
Despite being a collector, I won't buy these. The piss has been taken far enough by Warners and Rhino. For all I know I could stick on side A of PC&L and side B of Technique will play.
On a side note, doesn't it seem a tad out of order that the re-remasters with the corrected bonus discs are "for sale" on some American sites already whereas the label has not yet bothered to sort out an exchange program for people who have already shelled out best part of £75 for the original duds? Chucking out the "fixed" ones for sale at full price before sorting out the people you've ripped off is only going to rub more salt in the wound.
Mind you, they've made such a turd of the remasters from the word go I guess it's naive to expect them to raise their game at this late stage.
What Ally said above. £17 for a piece of plastic is outrageous, as you'd think no time, money, or effort was spent on the production of these. Actually, it is close to fraud.
I haven't heard what they sound like, for all its worth it could be great - mastered from analogue tape by Frank Artwright? But sadly, the shabby artwork just ruins it. Peter Saville should sue, as his original artwork has been changed without (I guess!) his approval.
I notice that it says the LPs come with posters. It will be interesting to see if the Low-life LP comes with a massive poster of the "Or der" artwork!
