Hi folks, I'm still on my summer vacation but as I got my hands on a PC I couldn't resist posting this: How about talking about NO turkeys for a change? Of course I'm not into slagging the Order off, I'm too much of a fan to do that, but I think it would be interesting to see what you lot think are (or not...) the downs in our favorite band's career. And I mean just that, no side projects involved here, please (that can be another tread)! You can coment your choices too... So: Worst song Worst song title worst sleeve worst video worst lyrics worst gig I guess I can come in first, OK? Here goes then: Worst song: The village (never could understand what was the inspiration behind this. It SUCKS!) Worst song title: Skullcrusher (even they hate it!) Worst sleeve: Everything's gone green (The colour scheme! The picture! God!!!!!!!!!!!) Worst video: Spooky (absurdly stupid!) Worst lyrics: Fine time (I know it's a "joke", but it's a rather lame one...) Worst gig: (As I never had the sheer luck to see them live - by the way, don't they know where Portugal is? That can't be the excuse, as Hooky has already been here playing with Durutti Column!- I'll leave this blank) Your turn now!
The worst Order

In answer to mostly all of the above:
'Rock the Potato'
This song gives Turkeys a bad name. Even when they are running from a farm hand.

Don't forget that if you rock potatoes into thin slices, then rock them in boiling oil and then rock them with salt and rock them in a cardboard tube, you get rocking Pringles. So, don't despise this song :D.
Worst song Slow Jam - utter tripe Worst song title Rock The Shack - what were they thinking of ? worst sleeve Blue Monday - they still have to work now because of it !! :) worst video 1963-95 or whatever it's called worst lyrics All The Way - parasites and literacites.....yeah right Barney ! ;) worst gig Blackburn 26/1/85 wasn't the best, maybe Birmingham 23/1/82
Worst song Such A Good Thing - Unbearable! Makes The Village and Shellshock sound like masterpieces
Worst song title The Him - A tad pretencious.
Worst video Fine Time - What is that? Pictures of a bad XTC trip?
Worst lyrics Too much to chose from. On the other hand: B's songwriting is one of the things that makes New Order songs so sympathetic.
Worst gig Revenge, Amsterdam Paradiso, somewhere in 1990 (or was it 1991?). Not many people attended this gig. The ones who did know why.
Worst sleeve Spooky - A perfectly nice picture is obscured by a cheapo Photoshop swirl effect and crappy gothic typography.
Worst song
SUCH A GOOD FEELING

Well, IMHO "Shellchick" (ah! See, Huntsy, your game is actually very easy to play!) is a precious little gem of a song... who happened to be totally ruined by Cuntrobie's "production"!
Worst song = SHAME OF THE NATION, LIAR, SOMEONE LIKE YOU (all equal top billing) Runner up = HURT, utter bollocks!
Worst song title = SUCH A GOOD THING - so fooking Simply Red it's untrue. Runner up = GET READY - definitely their worst album title!
Worst sleeve = SHELLSHOCK 7" / SUBCULTURE - why couldn't Peter Saville come up with at least something for this latter one? Runner up = the three 12"s for CRYSTAL (could YOU tell them apart?)
Worst video = RUINED IN A DAY / WORLD (both equal first place cus they remind me of something I'd expect from Sting and Duran Duran respectively)
Worst lyrics = STATE / SHAME OF THE NATION - truly cringeworthy
Worst gig = Only seen them about three times so cannot really pass judgement.

You wouldn't want to play the games I enjoy George. I couldn't even describe the theory behind them.

(not yet anyway but I'll think of something)

Agree with you on "Get ready". Really naff that one. The one-word titles were top (hate PCL too!). Can't agree on you about the "World" vid, I'm afraid. IMHO it's one of their best, up there with "True faith", "Regret" or "Round&round". Ups, going off-topic there!
Worst song Worst song title worst sleeve worst video worst lyrics worst gig
Song: Shellshock
Song title: Mesh (great song, though)
Sleeve: TBTHOG (psychedelic seashells by the seashore?)
Video: Toughie, but have to go with Shellshock again
Lyrics: again, SHELLSHOCK! Runner-up Slow Jam (great song though)
Gig: Haven't been to one, so I can't comment.

He hated the Arserobie "remix" so much he actually refused to design the sleeve... hence the "typography by PSA" thingie. Can't imagine why, though! If I were in NO I would refuse to record any music that could end up wrapped in such sleeves as "Everything's..", "Shellshock", "WIM remix", "Spooky" or "Nineteen63"!

Okay - now I get it! And who can blame him?!
As for your choices - they're harsh - but who cares?....at least your excuse is a good one....and very funny too!

Now "Shellshock"... does that count as a "video"? Random, meaningless, "let's pretend we're artistic" black&white cityscapes shot with a cheapo, hand-held cam, intershot with images from the "Pumped" vid... I mean, surely it's just a home video from Michael Shamberg's personal archives, innit?
Answer to the first five : World in Motion (sickness) :\puke:
Worst live : I've never disliked any live performance I've seen.
Worst song - Liar Worst song title - Hooky used everyone of 'em on 'One True Passion' Worst sleeve - Subculture Worst video - Touched Worst lyrics - Liar, again (I really don't like that 'song'). Worst gig - that's like asking what your worst bl*wj*b was? They're all fairly good, by definition alone. However, nish alcohol and driving rain makes Vancouver last year memorable for all the wrong reasons. Wembley 87 before that, probably - seats, for New Order? And in a different postcode to the actual stage??
Well as an ART collector it is a disgrace what happened to SUBCULTURE.This should have had a very disturbing ...bleak..scary...Gothic...violent cover with actual real blood dripping from it!
I will discuss the other four questions when i have calmed down! :D

Nah - they should have just shipped that single in a plain brown paper bag (obtainable at absolutely NO extra cost from any local greengrocers) - it was THAT embarrassing. Heh heh... :D

I'd like to change my vote for worst video, seeing as Shellshock has been my whipping boy ever since I first started posting here. Having just seen a few seconds of it thanks to the audio archives, I nominate:
WORLD IN MOTION!!!!!!!!! ![]()
I don't know which is worse: the footballers mouthing Barney's lyrics or Barney himself in the corner appearing like some sort of "soccor god" to cheer on the mullet-ed minions......

He also dressed up as Elvis Presley - which is pretty unforgivable in my book - so I hereby add this song to my list as well - alongside the previous two nominations!
Thanks for bringing back such traumatic memories Tabsy! :D

I don't understand what the fuck that Elvis costume has to do with a song about football. ![]()
World In Fucking Motion to all of em except the video and concert!
Worst video would definitely take place betwwen 1963-95 and Fine Time, both absolute lazy crap!
Worst concert
There were some truly awful concerts by the band in the eighties, far too many to mention:D
Thank God they're so professional now![]()
Worst song:
Sorry, but I simply don't like Angel Dust.
Worst song title
It has to be Mr Disco
worst sleeve
Republic IMHO, even I can do that!! Note thay Saville & co probably spent less time on the Get Ready artwork than on this one! They peaked with Technique, but after that, it's pretty much so-so!
worst video
Shellshock
worst lyrics
"Love is in the air that supports the eagle" anyone? ;)
worst gig
Well, I've only seen one!
