I think this is poor, Manchester seems to on a big nostalgia trip these days. Its turning into Liverpool... Get over it and move on!!
I'm surprised at how many negative posts are about this, I think its fantastic news. There are so many run of the mill nightclubs that play crap music, if theres a new one that plays decent music then I am all for it.
What is wrong with holding onto the past and embracing the future at the same time? Im sure this will be a great club which plays a good mix of classics and good contemporary music.
I guess we will have to wait and see!

They should play "Something Good" by Utah Saints over and over.

They've been collecting demos and Myspace info from bands for a while now, so plenty of gigs should be on the cards. They've also got a few new promoters signing up to run particular club/live nights as well.
It all seems to be far better organised this time - I certainly hope so, as with previous experience, surely the same kind of debacle couldn't happen again... ...could it? 
EDIT: A few people here have mentioned liking "The Joy Formidable", so I put them in contact. That should be at least one gig that a few people here will attend!

Here's an idea Colin, might be a strange one to grasp but it'll all make sense at some point.
Why dont you just go to one of many venues in Manchester which does live music and a "nightclub"? Two weeks ago, when i was in Manchester, I managed to go to two of these venues on the same night! I saw Lost Knives and Detroit Social Club in Ruby Lounge, in between these bands i saw Air Cav at Cross Street Unitarian Chapel, and after all this I went to Retro to watch some band who was on downstairs, and they had some kind of club night on there. Although me and John decided to go back upstairs.
Ultimately Colin, are you really interested in seeing any new bands? Its not like Freebass or the next Johnny Marr wank fest are going to be playing this place any time soon, is it? You only want to go because of the Factory name and the Peter Hook association. You will probably have absolutely no interest in any of the bands who are playing, and if you do watch them, you will probably just call them shit unless someone who you like tells you differently.
Chris, Joys are playing the Ruby Lounge on their next tour. Its unlikely (but not impossible, I guess) that they will play this venue. Their schedule is rammed.

This is complete nonsense.
There are so many places that play decent music! If you want to hold onto the past then either get yourself down to one of the seemingly weekly Hacienda reunion nights that happen across Manchester.
What makes you think this will be anything different than an overpriced 5th Av with the ocassional band on? There are hundreds of venues across Manchester catering for all kinds of tastes, plus a ton of gig venues. Does the city really need another one, especially one so grounded in the past?
After a dodgy couple of years, music in Manchester is starting to thrive again. Air Cav, The Longcut, Daniel Land and the Modern Painters, Jo Rose, etc. All fantastic bands/artists. But whats gets the attention. Oh yeah, a bunch of has beens harking back to the past. What a complete joke.

bloody hell liam your praising the longcut,i remember you calling them 'pointless noise' a couple of years ago! glad you've changed your mind,open hearts is the album of last year by a country mile and they're fantastic live i must've seen them 50+ times
as for the club i think it'll be worth keeping an eye on as a live venue
Glad someone is paying attention...
Some of the early longcut gigs were for me torturous. The first album was very hit and miss (although Tried and Tested Method easily one of the best songs of the last decade). But, as you say. second album is a corker.
