Very Upseting

Last night me and my friend were hanging out in New York City in the east village in a lounge and we met two girls and we started talking to them, one girl was from NYC and the other girl was from Dublin Ireland so in our conversation I mentioned to her that I love New Order and then she told me something that blew me away, she said why are you not at the Peter Hook DJ set at Webster hall which is about 5 minutes away by cab. First of all what are the odds of a girl that you meet that knows who Peter Hook is and then she is the one telling you about it, I was so upset because on this website there was no mention of him coming to NYC because I come to this website about 10 times a day and this post http://neworderonline.com/Forums/MessageList.aspx?ThreadID=47095 has no place where he is coming only the date which says 12/5 - Peter Hook of New Order, Dark Wave Disco DJs man I was so upset that I missed it and it was about 12pm then, so I am talking to this girl from Ireland and I also tell her that I am also a die hard u2 fan and I have seen all of their concerts when they come to NYC, so then she tells me that her and her friend hate U2 but that she works for computer firm in Ireland with Adam Clayton sister, so I was like that can't be Adam Clayton is worth about $250 million dollars so why would her sister work , so then she told me that she don't take no penny from him, she want's to work for her money like everybody, not that she hates him but she wants to make a living by her self and the girl told me that she has seen Adam and he is very nice, so I got the girl's E-mail and will try to stay in touch with her, she leaves for Dublin tonight, what are the odds of missing a Peter Hook DJ set and meeting someone who knows Adam Clayton's sister in one night only in NYC.

i guess nobody is interested enough anymore to get excited here at NOOL for his dj sets.... in the old days, there would have been a post just on "Hooky is in NYC this weekend"

that is too bad. i am admittedly not checking his Myspace every week, more like once a month to read his blog that he updates once every 3 months (which i always enjoy reading).

too bad there is not more buzz about all of this. a shame several of us missed the show. hopefully he got a good turnout -

I think that most on NOOL have been just banging on about bad lieutenant to even remember hooky, never mind that he does DJ sets. he could do with a mail list to sign up to for events which would solve the problem, I know how you feel, I missed both his gigs in my home town, the first due to a headache, the second I just didn't know about.

Jack, if your reading, tell your dad to make fletch earn his money and set up a mail list.

Just to let all of you know: Hooky is playing Chicago tonight. So... no more upsetting nights, and hopefully no U2 connections :)

i have no idea what part of NC nataliet is in, but most parts of North Carolina are amazing, whether it is the coast or out in Asheville.

i used to almost live at Cat's Cradle, a great club, where most of the best indie acts (especially American) played at some point.

now, South Carolina, that is a whole different story...

Roy and I spent most of yesterday getting drunk with a stag party from Bramhall. They put New Order on the juke box and said they were big fans. You should have seen their faces when we told them we were over for a BL gig and that they#d missed it. The best man was close to tears.

North Carolina is a very beautiful place I go to a place called Wilmington North Carolina and it is by the water and it is one of the beaches I saw I was shocked by how blue and clear the water, it is a hidden gem that people don't know about.

and the Blue Mountain are very beautiful place and this is coming from a guy who lives in NYC.

Ah, yes... the mountains- lovely. The beach? Lovely as well. Both about three hours away. I live in a place where people driving en route from Charlotte to the beach might stop & take a piss, thinking "well, maybe the Bojangles won't be so bad to go in." 2.5 hours to Raleigh, even farther to Chapel Hill, so, yeah. But you can be in South Carolina in 15 minutes!

Oh well, It's not all that bad- we're here for our jobs. I'm a Daytona Beach girl originally, but to a lot of people, that's probably not saying much, either :)

North Carolina is great for cigarette smokers, the whole state is a smoking section. You have to smoke a cigarette in a restaurant, or they won't serve you, it is mandatory. The kids have to learn to smoke before they can get a drivers license.

Now if you are black or gay, or a non-smoker, it's best to avoid North Carolina's people, just stick to the scenery.

Granted NC is far better than SC (lived in SC for 3 years and my sister lives in Charlotte), but not a fan of living in the South... hate humidity and bugs... not to mention how much tension there is between races (and its on both sides over there, not just whites).... and what's with the white after Labor Day thing, they'll trounce around with your head on a pole if you wear the wrong color clothing

Right, well, you lot sure are confident in your grand statements of North Carolina, seeing as you know it so well. I grew up in Hatteras, North Carolina, on the coast, I spent 19 years there, as well as two years in Winston-Salem, and you are sadly mistaken.

Yes, North Carolina is known for tobacco, but that automatically labels the state a horrible cigarette loving place? Excuse me for calling you out on this, but every restaurant I've been in North Carolina has a smoking and non-smoking section. You also can't smoke in in-doors places as per the law. You think we're uptight in North Carolina?

I've never met people more laid back than in North Carolina, the farther south you go the more relaxed we become. Up here in the north (I live in Ohio and my Dad is from NY, with family there) people are way more uptight and high strung. Can you guys work with each other without ripping someone a new asshole every five minutes? Forgive me, but at least in Hatteras we get off from work and go enjoy the beach and lovely weather all year round. I'm sorry it's always cloudy and rainy up here in his part of the states, but relax. Sure, you'll sit there and go, "Surf Western is definitely an uptight asshole", well, let me tell you, you can't knock the south and expect a southern not to get fired up.

So next time you go to North Carolina, why not try talking to some people nicely, not driving like an idiot, and don't litter our beaches and see how you get treated. If you're thinking North Carolina is the deep south you're off the mark, it's a beautiful state. It might not be the richest, but every state has poor areas. We have a thriving area we call the research triangle that has two of the best Universities in the Unites States, Duke University and University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, as well as great art and music being created in the surrounding areas.

Haha, you know, you're probably right. I was cringing coming back to this thread just now, thinking how I opened my big mouth and was going to get bashed, but I feel better now. I'm cool, it's all cool, sorry for the words, etc, etc.

You know, side note, my mom is from Texas, I love it down there too. Some of the more rural areas are really nice, near the farms. Sure, the south its share of problems, but so does every other place.

Wow--didn't mean to start any NC drama. My main complaint was regarding the convenience of NO-related entertainment, not to bust on the state or the South as a whole (I'm a Southern girl and proud of it)!!

For the record, I live in a samll rural town, and the people are very nice. When I said they were uptight, I meant in the "my husband and i are the only ones drinking beer at the Mexican restaurant on a Friday night" sense. Not exactly the same vibe as New Smynrna Beach FL.

As far as the race thing goes, it's no more an issue hers than anywhere else. Living in an area that's less than 40% white, I think not being an asshole goes a long way, regardless of color.

It sounds like you all are using some pretty rarefied-ass examples of the Carolinas. This is not the North Carolina in the brochures- they tend to leave the area between Charlotte and Raleigh blank. It's true. It's not Asheville, or Chapel Hill, and most definitely not Hatteras (I'd move there in a second if I could. Reminds me of home). A few things that get me down if I let them: the constant supply of "pet" dogs as raodkill fodder because people are too sorry to keep track of their animals, the trash thrown (by locals, not yankees) all over the roadsides because "the inmates need something to clean up," and my grocery store discontinuing food I like on a regular basis. You know, weird shit like feta cheese & wheat bread.

So, does posting my first official rant move me up a level? Sorry! Here's a little something to put us back on topic:

North Carolina is awesome, even the small towns in the middle of nowhere, maybe especially the small towns in the middle of nowhere.

I disagree with O-o, but have to say, it is a trip coming from puritanical new england, to go to a fast food spot in NC, and see ashtrays on the tables... I like it and I don't even smoke.

I grew up in New England and would go to some barbershops outside of Raleigh, and old 70 year old doods would be cutting my hair, and I could literally not understand what they were saying. The pace is so slow in some of those rural towns, I thought I was on valium. er, wait, maybe i was....

Now, don't tell Jeffari-al-Texani, but North Carolina BBQ with the vinegar and such is the ONLY GOOD BBQ.

Out of curiousity, are there any restaurants in the UK that serve US regional foods? Like, can you get a pulled pork bbq sandwich in London or Manchester? Just wondering. Sorry if I am naive!

That is true- it's the hot sauce & vinegar, for real! I saw some summer barbeque advertised in a Manchester pub, but I think it was just like grilling out, not BBQ in the strict sense. Also saw a KFC Buffalo wrap that seemed to have regular barbeque sauce on it, not buffalo wing sauce?

And there is something called donner meat. To me, Donner meat is human! maybe it's lost in translation?
