Sorry I did get a bit defensive, finals coming up for Uni next week, and I've been getting a lot of bashing for being a southern lately. Funny how it all comes together at one time! Now, I agree the south isn't without it's flaws, but it has some really beautiful things about it. I'll be the first to tell you that yes, rural areas in North Carolina can be embarrassing. Just try driving from around thirty minutes outside of Kill Devil Hills to Winston-Salem and you'll see some really run down places. The difference between the south and the north though, at least in the more rural places in the south, is that there seems to be more space than in the north. That makes a difference for me at least, there being some trees alive still. I kid, I kid. Anyone who knows much about the south knows we can get all in a huff about our homes and things, I apologize.
Anyway, I could be biased, I did come from the Outer Banks, which is beautiful and peaceful.
When I was still living in Hatteras I always wanted New Order to play Norfolk. Sure, it's a four hour drive, but venues like The Norva are pretty good and it would have been great to see them.
I was fortunate when it came to BBQ, my mom is from Texas, so you've got that great heritage there, and even though my Dad is from NY he makes great BBQ. He's been in NC for over twenty years, so I think he's got the cooking down. :)
