NME Review of Technique

Does anyone know where I can find a word for word transcript of the NME review of Technique when it was originally released?? Been surfing the net but can't find it anywhere??!!

Unfortunately not. I remember the review was accompanied by the beach picture from the film From Here To Eternity with the caption something about "In Glorious Technique Colour"

Technique was of course a WINTER album, what with it being released on a cold wet January Monday in 1989.Not a summer album which many mistake it for.Idiots.

I think I have the sticker was it in 2 bits, the image of the bloke holding is Knob and the "NewOderTechnique" text??

I have not got the NME but the sticker is on the front cover of scrap book that has the press release for the sinclair C5 & me standing by the first Virgin Atlantic challanger after going up and down southampton water on it !!!

I had a look for it aswell,did'nt find it,got bored looking for it after about 2 minutes but I did find a poster of the cover of NME of 28 Jan 1989,If I remember correctly another Manchester band graced the cover of the NME in the December double edition of that year..

Thanks for the uploads for this review guys! It is a gushing review however cos I love Technique think its well deserved!!

That MM review nails it; exactly what I was feeling when it first came out. After 10,000 listens the thrill is gone but at the time it really was The Perfect Album.

I think New Order were if anything a bit lazy with this album.

A few of the limp sounding guitar tracks would sounded better with more of a balearic feel to them. Adding layers of spanish guitar sounds would have padded out some of Sumners weaker guitar riffs.

Think Factory went promotion mad with this one. I've got the sticker, also got a photo (somewhere) of a billboard hoarding and a lovely big poster for the SECC/NEC gigs done in a Technique stylee.

You can't upload pictures to the site unless it is an avatar. You would need to host the file elsewhere and then embed the picture. Far easier to upload to your pictures in your profile, right click for the properties, copy the URL and embed it.

While we're on the subject of Technique, why are there so little live DVD performances of the album available??!!!

There were only four UK gigs in that era (plus the Big World Cafe performance). Reading was filmed but the only copy I have seen was a shocker, GMEX filmed, never seen but heard it too was a shocker. I don't know of any US bootleg DVD's (from any year) and that's where the album was toured.

It's a shame really because the Reading light show was incredible.

Both gigs were excellent, the recordings were poor though.

I remember those mixed feelings when Technique came out.On one hand that it sounded so effortlessly genius and was their pinnacle of all they'd been working towards throughout their halcyon developing years of the 80s.But that era was over and they'd never reach those heights again.Probably encapsulated no more so than in the feeling from listening to Dream Attack.

Theres not one weak guitar riff on my Technique CD. Maybe you got a duff copy!!!....what a 24 carot plonker!!!

I'm leaning towards bad as it sounds pejorative, but then again, tits!

'Dog's bollocks' is good too.. when you'd think it would mean irredeemably shit.

The non dance stuff is too slow, and throughout the album Hook is slightly too quiet. 'Run' is a load of crap on record. Very New order by numbers - the same barre chord/ba-ba-ba bass sound from the years before.

Shame that in later years they never fused the up-tempo rave sounds of Republic with the bass sounds from Brotherhood. A concept eventually I will get around to achieving
