I think he was bringing down The Man from within when he did that (sounded better in my head, that). Afterall, those two brands are competitors.
Attended this last night. Dave Haslam questioned Bernard for 50 minutes then opened it up to the audience for a further 15 minutes. The temperature reached 85 degress in the marquee erected especially for the festival on Albert Square. Paul Morley in the audience. Andy Robinson sat in front of us.
Some interesting questions: Why did you become known as Barney? 'Hooky started calling me Barney in the mid 80's just to piss me off because he knew I hated it, I still do.'
What is your favourite New Order album? 'Don't know, I can't remember what's on them. My favourite song is Love Vigilantes and my favourite song to play live is Temptation.'
A few interesting admissions: The Smiths and The Stone Roses would be more likely to get back together before New Order.
The final straw is that Hooky has laid his intensions on the line to tour the New Order albums after Closer. 'Hooky and I are very different people, we want different things.' Hooky buying the Hacienda name before contacting the rest of the band also pissed them off to say the least.
There was alot of tension in the air when Hooky was mentioned. 'To constantly rely on your past for financial gain is wrong. We (BL) play old songs but we also write and play new ones.'
As far as I am concerned I am now 99% sure that New Order will never reform.
A great hot and sweaty night. Bernard very interesting and candid.

Yup, sounds pretty un-fixable that one.
S'funny, Bernard's comments about 'not remembering' what's on the back catalogue of albums are similar to an answer Hooky gave NOOL's very own Muffy a while back. When asked weather Side A and Side B on the original Lowlife LP should have been swapped around he replied (completely seriously); 'Low-Life....hmmmm.......what was on that one again?'. I guess it's just the fans who pay attention to such detail!

Thank you for sharing some questions asked that night.

Can you imagine anything more insufferably boring that having to watch and listen to Paul fucking Morley at an event?
ANY event?
Fuck me... I'd rather have Gordon Ramsay as a guest at a Bernard Sumner bash massaging his own ego over THAT fucking hasbeen!
He's like that fucking Stuart Maconie - Maul Poorly ends up absolutely EVERYWHERE!!!
![]()
Strap the fucker down and make him listen to every single song by The Killers. That should sort him out!

At least the Maulster kept his flapping pretentious gob mostly shut then..... otherwise if it weren't for him, this event would most definitely have been worth attending if there were any tickets left. Sounds like a very intriguing conversation there and if anything it just goes to show that the ructions between the band members go much deeper than initially feared.

The bitterness runs deep indeed. I was shocked. One woman in the audience gave an audible gasp after one of Bernard's comments about the Hookster. You can see the awkwardness throughout the history of the band between them both. In interviews from late eighties onwards. Remember, Bernard was irritated by Hooky because he licks his fingers whilst eating crisps!
Paul Morley is in conversation soon. May be interesting but he is a hanger on in this story and was lucky to be involved and earnt a living from it.

Thank you for the advance warning. I will have to ensure that I am at a very safe distance from wherever Maul Porley should be (preferably a outside of a radius of some 20 miles) in case his irrepressible verbal diarrhoea is contagious. Truly, I have never had the misfortune to [attempt to decipher] so much pretentious and meaningless drivel as his so-called 'prose', be it sleeve notes, press releases or what the fuck else. The guy is a syntax-mangling bell end of the highest order. A connoisseur of the mealy-mouthed non-sequitur.

That blog seems like another FUC51-type deal although at least those behind FUC51 were supposedly fans of the "original" bands and period. This guy seems to simply despise Joy Division and nothing more. It's like creating a web site dedicated to a half-funny joke and attempting to retell the joke differently with each new post. Gets old fast unless your a bona fide comedy genius, which this guy ain't. He's even got an up to the minute Twatter feed with erm, 8 followers. The lengths some people will go...
It's funny the guy seems to be championing the fucking Ting Tings (!) as a legendary band that will be remembered 40 years from now rather than JD. That was a real laugh out loud moment reading that. The whole thing has got to be a massive pisstake, shirley?
The only decent point this guy may have (but makes it badly) is the "cult" that grew up around Ian's suicide and not the music. Fans who became fans because he topped himself or sang about topping himself prior to just carrying out the act can indeed be very weird. They normally wear lots of goth makeup and wear long raincoats... and don't like New Order because they dared write the odd upbeat dance song.
Aside from that... JD = top band ![]()

This website is hilarious, thanks for the link.
Interestingly, this guy seems to have a deep knowledge about Joy Division. I would guess he is a fan taking out the piss on the band.
I can understand this blog a little bit...because I don't like Joy Division fans who think they are better than everybody else because they like JD; I don't like JD fans who think JD are a goth band; I don't like JD fans who like JD because they think it's 'cool' or 'stylish' to do so compared to other groups; I don't like JD fans who argue online such as on this thread http://www.neworderonline.com/forums/MessageList.aspx?ThreadID=47584&PageIndex=4. But I do not like to waste my time online about things I don't like.
Ha! Although the idea that owls had a hand (or wing?) in some of of the JD lyrics is an intriguing one...

Never saw a person who hates so much a band knows so many things about them, he needs to visit a psychiatrist urgently ![]()

This is somebody's blogpost about the event, although it just talks about what generally happened. (Nothing specific, no quotes, etc). But it might be of interest to some people.
