As good as BM is I'd put I Feel Love top

That list is a great starting point for the kids to look up on Soulseek.

I wouldn't put BM on top of any kind of list. Unless they mean the popularisation of dance music. BM was a pretty blatant rip off of quite a few other tracks around at the time, or arguably just a product of the technology that was around at the time. Great as it is, I doubt it actually influenced many artists. Some good stuff on the list though.

It's also become one of the most boring.

When you have spent the best part of 25 years swooning to the absolute orgasmic nirvana of The Perfect Kiss, you then begin to realise that Blue Monday was just, thankfully, a dress rehearsal for the REAL McCOY....and sounds in comparison like two blocks of wood being banged together down on the farm.

while blue monday is what got me into new order...

i wonder if they didn't make it, would 'the perfect kiss' have gotten more acclaim, or recognition?

i feel it was very underrated, and probably didn't make as much of an impact on people (or other groups), as 'blue monday' did..

for me, it was the pinnacle of their songs..

but, i've never heard remakes, re-releases, or any other groups/critics/etc praise 'the perfect kiss' that much..

hmmm... i would have BM in top 3, just not sure where..

still think that the list should definitely have Age of Love - Age of Love which kind of defined the post 1990 techno age in my book. Chime by Orbital should feature surely?

The Perfect Kiss may be a fine track etc but isn't a great crossover club tune, it's a little too busy for that and it's not something that can be part of a mix easily. Their next great club tune is the Bizarre Love Triangle 12" mix.

as said above, "blue monday" was a mish mash of other tracks that where floating around at the time, but then again so was "confusion",the later very popular on the club scene at the time,the remixes and the re-recording sound very very 80s to my ears now, still great though.

The Perfect Kiss is just too clever for this poll.

another thing about 'the perfect kiss', at least the full version.. is that the format of it. long intro.. verses.. break.. long instrumental outro. follow 'blue monday's breakdown also..

now, 'blue monday', came along with 5-8-6, and ecstasy and other experiments.. so you could say the song was 'morphing' or changing with the time..

who knows if it played a part in making 'the perfect kiss', i know the bpm's are different... but there are points where the beats (especially in 'the kiss of death') are a clear reminder of 'blue monday'..

Whilst Blue Monday unquestionably has the right to be in the Top 3-5, this list would suggest what should be old news by now: great musicians don't tend to have great taste in music.

MARRS - Pump Up The Volume Should be in the Top 10, as it introduced to the mainstream that sampling intelligently is a fine art.

YAZOO - Don't Go (Re-Mix/Re-Re-Mix) The two double-a-side tracks may have been intended as seperate tracks, but played one after another (as the then-Virgin Radio did in August 1999), this makes what I think is the finest 12" single ever recorded.

DEPECHE MODE - Strangelove (Maxi-Mix) This - and NOT Get The Balance Right - is Depeche Mode's finest 12" mix. A shame it didn't appear on the 2004 remix compilation, nor will it on the forthcoming follow-up in June.

Anyway, what about the dance track that launched Happy Mondays onto the world - CAN's "Halleluwah"??? The Mondays practically ripped it off for their breakthrough hit. Who'd have thought that a bunch of bookish German experimentalists accidentally invented stoned white funk??? YES REALLY!!!!
