My defnitive New Order album list: Best to Worst

1. Power, Corruption & Lies
2. Get Ready
3. Waiting for the Siren's Call
4. Technique
5. Republic
6. Low-Life
7. Brotherhood
8. Movement

I based this mostly on the amount of play time these have had for me personally as whole, not based on the strength of individual songs. I must admit, #'s 2-5 were very close to call and probably all are about tied to be honest.

I have to admit, I think it's pretty impressive that the 2 most recent albums are in my top 3. You don't see that too often with pop stars and it just goes to show NO were one of the bands that actually got better with age.

You can't be serious. Get Ready better than Technique, Low-Life, Brotherhood and Movement!? Weirdo.

Get Ready rocks.. I hated it at first because it was less electro, but over the years I've come to the conclusion it is one of their most solid and mature albums. Again, as I said above, I think 2-5 are really about even.

Weird that you have Low-life so low, and WFTSC so high, but i do agree that Get Ready is a good piece of work, that is i reckon at the bottom end of the top 5.

I'm guessing you are a latecomer, as if you were a diehard when Lowlife or Technique came out you'd have been blown away at the time and still in love. These were the most copied styles and probably don't seem as cool to someone that picked them up years after.

Been a fan since 1988. Low-life has got some great tracks, but also has a few fillers..and I never felt the album worked that well as a whole. Again, ALL their albums are great, this is just my ranking after years of listening and reflecting on their body of work.

Perhaps cos I was exposed to the live interpretation of Low-Life, and I guess Technique, far more in that period, I'm more biassed to these. I dunno. But you cannot or rather could not beat a live salvo of Subculture, Face Up and Perfect Kiss. They were at their height of their hilarious and super cocky 'we don't give a shit' pomp back then, in a live sense.

My rankings are as follows:-

I am amazed to see someone claiming that Low Life contains fillers,I think it's the perfect album,faultless in fact. As for fillers,I think the first filler track on a New Order album is Every Little Counts,on Technique it could be argued that Fine Time & Round And Round are fillers and yet they were released as singles instead of Dream Attack or Vanishing Point!

I've always felt Face up was a bit fillerish...maybe that's the only one really..I do agree with you on Every Little Counts.

It's interesting to see everybody else's choices, 10 years or so ago I might have had the same list. For some reason, I just feel now that the last 2 albums were some of their best..something the band might agree with as most artists generally feel their most recent work is their best.

Technique PC&L Brotherhood Low-Life Get Ready Movement WFTSC Republic

PC&L has the best tunes on it, but Technique is consistently better as an album. Brotherhood is the most underrated NO album, I mean come on, All Day Long, Every Little Counts, BLT, AIIWIW? Low-Life, well I like Love Vigilantes and Elegia, but the rest of the album does nothing for me, and it also gets minus points because it has a rubbish edit of TPK and not its entire 9 minute majesty. Get Ready was a solid comeback album, but as for the rest, well they have their choice tracks (DNE, Denial, Turn, WFTSC, Regret, RIAD) but as albums they are certainly among their weaker stuff.

Here is mine:

1 Technique (just look at the sleeve for a kick off!) 2 PC&L 3 Low-life (Face-Up sounds like a farce and spoils an otherwise superb album) 4 Brotherhood 5 Movement (Recorded later in their career it would have been better) 6 Republic (marred by lack of bass and band unity) 7 Get Ready 8 WFTSC

For me its Movement at number one, and then , well,they just went downhill.

Remember that when Low Life was released it was still primarily Vinyl and Tape.The 9 minute version of TPK wouldn't fit on one side of an LP without drastically reducing the amount of other tracks on there.

I can't really say that I have a 'favourite'/best LP. NO are so 'entwined' in my life that every LP reminds me of a different period. From being 'blown away' by Movement as a 10 year old. Going through my teenage years with PCL, Low Life and Brotherhood and all that entails. Technique reminds me of the madness of the 'Rave' scene, Republic the 'comedown' from all that. Get Ready 'The Revival' and WFTSC realising I am 'getting on' and people who are responsible for my NO 'fixation' no longer being there.

I think PCL is a considerably "greater achievement" than Brotherhood but a lot of days Brotherhood just begs me to play it - and I've always liked side 2, which a lot of people up to and including Hooky have seen fit to take a dump on over the years.

I couldn't possibly say which I prefer out of Movement and Republic, they're too different. Both are just what I need sometimes.

WFTSC contains on the other hand just too many songs that don't quite hit the target (for me). Still love the title track and "Turn" however, both are probably better than any single song on Get Ready.

On the whole though I probably prefer Get Ready, but this [as I've suggested before] would have been so much better than the actual album:

Though, it's virtually imposible for me to choose between my top 4 most of the time. I think that Brotherhood is a seriously underrated album. For me the last 4 have 2 or 3 amazing tracks and a whole lot of filler.
