5, 6 & 7 I all kinda like the same, some great tracks on all 3, but some forgettable ones too in my opinion

Like others, I find MOVEMENT average or "tentative" from start to finish and is probably my most rarely played NewOrder album.

Shocked to see so many people putting GET READY near the bottom, or below WFTSC... Crystal beats anything off WFTSC, and is fairly consistent all the way through like Technique. 60mph, Turn My Way, Vicious Streak, Primitive Notion, SOMEONELIKEYOU, Close Range, Run Wild... all strong songs!

REPUBLIC, the album people on here love to hate.. but I've always liked it. Might be slightly biased as it was the first NewOrder stuff I became aware of, and I love a lot of stuff from the early-mid 90s. But Regret... Price Of Love... Ruined In A Day... Everyoneverywhere... Special... Avalanche... all fantastic tracks I think! I can even tolerate Chemical.

I put Brotherhood near the bottom, because I always get the feeling the band didn't quite have enough material for a full album [it still is their shortest album] so dumped every little counts on there, which I really cannot listen to.. it's cringeworthy! Angel Dust I'm not too fond of, and Paradise sounds limp compared to the excellent Robert Racic remix. "Wierdo" is fantastic though, and sounds like the elder sibling of "All The Way" on Technique.

What's with all the hate for ELC? I think it's a top tune, certainly better than the dated Face Up (the intro, which is great, aside), or even worse State of the Nation and Shellshock.

Nothing wrong with ELC as a song, but more importantly, its inclusion highlights what used to make the band special: their quirky sense of humour and individualistic approach. After Technique it would all be very corporate, but back then they had their own personality and things like ELC, the inner-groove-messages and the final couplet of Your silent Face are prime examples I think. And I still think Face Up is poo.

P,C & L. at the top, but all 5 Factory albums on the upper tier. At this point no reason to over analyze. 2nd to 5th album all have sort of a "piss take" or an experiment so on them, but all well in the New Order way of doing things.

The last 3 albums on the lower tier. Republic doesn't seem like a New Order album after "Regret" and gets very bland and even unlikeable in the middle. The last two have some very questionable choices with production and some songs, which I won't even listen to some songs.

PC&L - Honest, True, Wonderful. Only album not to sound compromised Technique - End of an era, perfect dance/rock hybrid Low-Life - Overated, Individually tracks work well, but not together. Brotherhood - Trying to keep 'both fans' happy, but falls short. Movement - Interesting period piece. Republic - Compromise + Stephen Hague + London = average product WFTSC - Better than expected, still some fire left. Get Ready - Trite production, more filler than an old Ford Cortina.

The 'London' albums take the last three places as the band just weren't the same, despite the odd gem now and again. Why they started playing essentially traditional rock and roll with conventional lyrics is beyond me, as the reason why many people got into the group was because they were exactly the opposite!!!

Anybody who puts Repubic, Wet Freddy and Waiting For Our Zimmer Frames above the GODLIKE trinity of prime era NO that is Technique, Low Life and Brotherhood must surely be several slices of cheese short of a ploughmans.

And that is official.

I think Substance is the best even though it's not a proper album. Never seen the likes of it before or since. The monstrously long cassette of B sides was never out of my car radio back in the day.

Agreed, no doubt the album that turned a lot of people onto NO for the first time.

Now that's interesting. You see I agree Low-Life is criminally over-rated, but I reckon the opposite: it works as a whole, but the individual tracks are hit'n'miss. The first side's class, but the second is (in order): turgid - average - about wanking for cryin' out loud - downright unlistenable. As for Get Ready I think it's surprisingly strong. By that time I'd lost my passion and bought it more out of curiosity than anything else, but (again) the first half's damn fine. Crystal's their last great single, Turn My way and Vicious Streak are perfect melancholia and Primitive Notion is equal to Sunrise. Shame about 60 mph. And most of the second half.

Well again, each to his own. (Which means HUH?) For me OTP is the worst thing ever to come out of the NO stable: bombastic, directionless, throwaway. More an excuse for Hooky to indulge in touring and dodgy S'n'M imagery than a disc in its own right. And while I may be in the minority, I think the Freebass album is a triumph - far more enjoyable than both OTP and Monaco's second effort... And BL is for me Bernard's most consistent long-player since 'Electronic' became the theme tune to my A-Levels! But each, as I say, to his own.

Technique has aged really badly as it used to be my favorite a while ago, although the songs are class the synths sound really dated nowadays. Also for some reason I rate GR highly, probably happy reunion memories.
