The best way to get the Sirens outtakes out in full is to reissue "Waiting For The Sirens' Call" as a Deluxe 2xCD or 2xCD+DVD edition. Seriously surprised the band or label have apparently not come to that conclusion themselves. As such a reissue would be 70% old material it's surely not much more expensive to do than a Best Of?

Disc 1 would be the original album remastered by Steve and Frank Arkwright in the same manner as 'Total' replacing the ridiculously brickwalled version we got in 2005 at the height of the loudness wars.

Disc 2 would be the remaining outtakes including 'Hellbent' completed to the band's satisfaction and they could use a mixture of the era's best remixes (plus the unreleased Tribute Mix of WFTSC & Jetstream "Bunker Mix") or live recordings as an appendix. Again all mastered to the same standard as 'Total'.

Finally, add a DVD to the set as per the recent Suede reissues. Include all the promotional videos made for the album including the Michael Shamberg 'Turn' ones. Pad out the rest of the disc with choice live performances (Hyde Park was filmed) and perhaps a hidden "easter egg" section with the US Guilt remixes - they did win a Grammy for them after all.

Flog the 3 disc re-release for £15.99-16.99 in the shops or £25 online including a free T shirt and most fans would gladly dip their hands in their pockets for it no question. Job done, a few more sales chalked up in WFSTC's name to justify that whopping £600k recording bill, outtakes released and fans generally satisfied with a carefully thought out product.

I agree that's the best way to do it, I'd buy it in an instant. I guess though the record label think they'll be able to milk it longer by including one track per each new release. Whilst I guess it was Bernard joking, I can seriously see them doing that.

I like the idea a lot of WTFSC 2xCD and 2xCD + DVD versions, another idea could be along the lines of what The Beatles did, release Waiting For The Sirens call, but call it something else slightly different; invert the cover or something, and put the 7 out-takes on, a few alternative versions of the album tracks and sell it for the price of a normal album as an alternative version of WTFSC.

What really stands in the way of this is the fact that some of the tracks are unfinished. How they could be 'finished' is probably something of an obstacle.

That's how the Beatles worked in their last days: each member was recording his solo parts on his own. I know that's how 'I Me Mine' was recorded in January 1970.

Oh I'm sure they have but its all about timing. Timing as in how many times can we flog Compilations which drip-feed the songs before releasing them again anyway in your Deluxe 2XCD edition.

In a nice world a Deluxe edition would be out round about now, as would the other London albums but sadly we dont live in that world. I like literally dozens of defunct bands (not funk bands) and they all have a few tracks in the archives which only surface on Cash-In Compilations.

I do think, however, that iTunes Is Our Friend in all this because it does gives you the option we didnt have when I were a lad to cherry pick what you want.

Interesting suggestions on how to deliver it too. There's always different angles on re-marketing the back catlogue as +- showed - a great concept, name, package and launch (forget the distribution fuck up, irritating but boring).

Total is their first release I'm swerving. Just a step too far. The inclusion of a new track is a sneaky and cuntish promotional tool. The first time a release has diminished their standing in my eyes. After this and Hooky's embarrassing ongoing 'business interests' WFTSC Part II offers a real opportunity to inject some integrity back into the brand.
