Working Overtime is in a totally different league of shitness compared to Rock The Shack which I can actually listen to.

I agree, WO is probably the worst NO song of all time- a really pointless exercise. I kind of like Rock the Shack, but don't listen to it that often.

Republic's the best New Order album anyway. Everyone knows that.

Rock the Shack was recorded here in Dublin in Pulse Studios, where I studied sound engineering.

One of the engineers who is a huge New Order fan hung around outside to get PC&L signed.

He later walked in on the session where they were recording Rock the Shack and said he was shocked at how crap they were.

I suppose the song didn't help.

Me, I really like it, I think it's a great tune. I actually prefer the remix more than the original.

Anyway, Rock The Shack is much worse than The Stooges. The Stooges are awesome.

The I told You So Remix is an improvement I guess,for me the "Dancehall" style of intro to the album version was a turn off,the remix has a kind of Velvets drone about it..

Personally speaking rock the shag is worse track on get steady and working overtime likewise for wtftsc.

I don't think barneys voice suits either track, far too weak.

As for turn my way, I like corgans voice so I dont have an issue with him sharing vocals. I would say it's barneys vocals that are more jarring " the sky would not be gwey". And a great track is ruined by the whole washing cars and not owning a key drivel.

Any likability of rock the shock is rubies by that horrible warbling noise on the second verse. I thought I had a faulty cd at first.

IMO get Freddie has 8 goodish tracks and what the fuck the sirens called has 6.

Not that I know of. Think you might be mixing it up with the WFTSC call mix that came out at the same time.

Tribute mix is definitively wonderful. I thought the Told You So had some extra guitar and keyboards from Barney, but I could be wrong.

I had the rare thing of not having heard any of it (apart from Crystal radio edit) til i had the official CD in my hands. Hadn't got into downloading back then and hadn't heard any of it on stuff like Peel's show.Also, hadn't gone to the Liverpool Olympia gig the month before.

None of it bowled me over on that first listen. I do remember thinking how unremarkable and wishy washy Barney's lyrics seemed. Vicious Streak was the first song that i took to on second and third listens.

Of course, Crystal was epic, monumental... After the first listen - back in August 2001, - the tracks that stood out were those with a synth feel: Vicious Streak, Someone Like You. Just as with Twisted Tenderness I preferred Make It Happen and the title track (which, is weakly produced IMHO). So, no, I didn't care much for the guitar stuff on either album (by then I had not listened to guitar music for years).

I would say, in 1981-1986 albums, there was an excitement of something new, you could feel they tested their creativity. Here it was just way too conventional...

I don't share the hate about some of those tracks on Get Ready and Waiting. No skipping here when I play them (though I have to admit that would be difficult, because I usually play the vinyl version). In fact, if NO would play near my town next week and I'd know the setlist would consist only of Working Overtime, Rock The shack, I Told You So, Slow Jam and the rest of the "shite tracks" mentioned here, I'd buy a ticket this minute.

I find Get Ready a strange album to listen to.

9/11 had just happened, I'd moved to Hackney, and I was tanning the E and going out to clubs in London a lot. Vicious Streak brings all those weird feelings back.

Primitive Notion is quality though, it's a soaring tune that I'd file as classic sounding New Order. Here to Stay should have been included though.

And, for the record, I'd prefer New order sounding digital Dancehall than Stooges-lite garage rock. So, yeah, I don't mind I Told You So.

But apart from Technique, all New Order albums are patchy

Movement (heavy going from start to finish) PC&L (We all stand, Ecstasy, not the best version of 586) Lowlife (Sooner than you think, Sunrise, not the best version of Perfect Kiss) Brotherhood (Broken Promise, Way of Life, Angel Dust) Republic (most of the album after Everyone Everywhere)

Rock The Shack Slow Jam Primitive Notion Someone Like You

All of the above are bordering on the unlistenable. We must've all been caught up in the euphoria of having something new from them as I remember the album as being 'above average'. Although I think we all agreed on this very board at the time of release that Rock The Shack was possibly the worst thing they'd ever done. Anyway, it'll be another 4/5 years before I give it another spin that's for sure.

I'm gonna put WFTSC on tomorrow which I remember as being 'pretty shite' so that'll be an interesting experiment.

I think these songs are very good and I enjoy listening to them, Primitive Notion is an amazing song.

I've barely listened to Get Ready in years, so that probably says a lot.

Bar Crystal, Someone Like You and Vicious Streak, the rest is either average or total crap (i.e. Rock The Shack, Slow Jam).

Here to Stay definitely should have been on the album, and I'd put all of the B-sides, despite them not being 'outstanding' by any stretch, on there too.

Get Ready's 10th anniversary was obviously a world-shaking event wasn't it? ;)

I would probably play about three songs max on it now - virtually the same as with Republic.

Crystal still remains one of their more overrated songs (those female b/vs really need to be kicked into touch).

Turn My Way is fine except for Corgan's whiney vocals.

Primitive Notion is okay. Ditto Vicious Streak.

Close Range is the highlight for me cos it sounds like the Chemicals in the oscillating intro.

I've now revised my opinion of the closer, Run Wild...... I think it is a spinelessly aimless ballad for fucking hippies. It just shows that New Order were losing their edge by coming up with sentimental dreck like this, it is so ill-fitting.....

Agree that some of the b-sides and HTS (albeit a better produced mix) should have been on there instead.
