The question includes either separately or as part of the band.

I think it's a good question in the current recording climate. In an age where Joy Division albums are toured in their entirety but ultimately nothing new is offered; each to their own on that front, I'm not knocking nor endorsing the Joy Division catalogue being (re)explored. People go to the gigs and enjoy themselves but the question remains: do you want to hear something fresh?

Bernard has released at least one album of new material with Bad Lieutenant which met with a mixed response. I think it's fair to say that the Freebass album got a bit of a savaging but the Two Worlds Collide EP fared slightly better. The recent Gillian + Stephen 12" was welcomed by a few but beyond that didn't really make much of an impact.

What would you like to see in the future? New stuff or the old albums toured to within an inch of their lives? Or a mix of old and new rather than slavishly doing "an album per year"?

It's an open poll, say what you think :)

The way I see it, the last two albums they've done are far removed from the classic New Order sound, so I don't see it as them having to live up to their legacy. If they can release an album with a few songs that add to what we've already got (the way Get Ready & Sirens have 4/5 songs each that I really like or love) then I would say Foook Yeah!! That way they have a new album to tour with and mix in their newer work with the songs they don't play as much that deserve to be played (age of consent, love vigilantes, perfect kiss etc). We're in the realms of fantasy here, I know!

So yes, new album please. The Sirens Second Coming would do for now.

Oh, when I say "as part of the band" I mean historical recordings. I.e. the Sirens leftovers.

Or god forbid a reunion under happy circumstances....

You're torturing me! lol

We don't know if Gilbert's comeback is "permanent". As Hooky is not in, it's pointless now to speculate abour any new music. Plus, Phil is still with the band and he's unlikely to go away, so it's safe to say there'll never be a pure New Order again, that is, as in the 1980-2001 line-up. By hicks.

EDIT: Ok, I missed the point about "separate". Well, yeah anything new - bad or good - is welcomed, at least that way we would get something good.

if they wish to do so, why not?

Well, I'd buy it.

I find Get Ready and WFTSC less than totally satisfying. But that matters less to me than that each record contains a number of songs I wouldn't want to be without.

This is also true of the side-projects. I don't think that the Bad Lieutenant album is a great record; it's not even the type of music, generally speaking, that I want Bernard to be making. But they've recorded at least 3 songs that, frankly, make my life a bit better.* And that's enough.

I don't think this is unique as bands age and inspiration comes along less often. All the Bunnymen albums from Evergreen on have contained a few songs I love and a bunch of songs I can take or leave. The stuff that stays with you is what's important.

*****That would be "Twist of Fate", "Running out of luck" and "Higher Wider Deeper". I am also grateful that Freebass ever got it together at all, simply because of the splendid "You don't know this about me".

neither. its up to them. theyve produced 4 decades worth of great tracks. so im happy as it stands. but id be happy to if they continue.

It won't happen. So - No!

As a fan I would appreciate if they did of course... But when I recall how we all bashed on WFTSC - better not.

It's completely their choice but for my 2p, I would hope to see some new music from any combination of the talent that has brought us such wonderful music in the past.

So, we sit and wait.

My bet is "kill each other".

Yes!

If the likes of Crystal, Close Range, Someone Like You, Vicious Streak, Hey What You Doing, Guilt never saw the light of day then my life would not have been as happy as it is!

They clearly have it in them to come up with more brilliant songs so why not??

Bad Lieutenant had no standout tracks though... the closest to being uplifting in my eyes, the plodding This Is Home. Tracks like Dynamo attempted to lift the mood of the album but missed the mark.

The new Other Two stuff is brilliant - and being a limited edition release you can't expect it to change the world.

You know they will and you know we'll be flocking back to it whatever it sounds like because as Jarvo said recently "noone gets out of here alive". So were here till the end my friends, till the end :beer2: till sun explodes or something.

Personally I think they are all past it. The lyrics and creativity from Bernard Sumner has been very poor in the last ten years, the only stand out work being the singles Here to Stay, WFTSC and Krafty. The work he did on Bad Lieutenant was shocking and utter dross, I would never believe that it was from the same person who wrote amazing tunes like Temptation, True Faith and Vanishing Point. I'd love to see a few more amazing tunes from any of them, but I don't think they have it in them anymore. The one thing i'd love them to do is an album of the old tunes updated and tweaked, maybe a bit like the WFTSC 'tribute mix' or similar to the Beatles 'Love' album.

That will never happen, you know how averse Bernard is to looking back at the past. On the other hand I wouldn't put it past Hooky to re-record every song he's ever wrote in the next few years...

I'd like to see a whole album of re-interpretations like this:

http://laughingsquid.com/bernard-sumner-sings-acoustic-version-of-bizarre-love-triangle/

This is a whole new take on BLT. And Bernard has never sung better than he does here. I'd rather that they tour these versions too instead of hearing the same live versions again.

Just my 2p. And you are entitled to and I respect your opinion.

If they want. As long as the know its probably going to be slated unless (and even when) its the Classic New Order Line-Up.

That I would love to hear!

As for the question... Probably, yes... I'd happily put up with another Working Overtime or Jayeetee or Liar if the compensation was another Turn, Krafty (I know, I know) or Regret...

I have both the Bad Loo and Freebass albums, nothing amazing on there, but I'm willing to give them a chance, given the enjoyment I've had from NO over the years...

I'd probably also go and see NOminusHook and/or Badd Loo and/or The Light, if I had more time and money... I'd make a bit more of an effort for a 'proper' NO, but wouldn't drop everything for them...

I suppose however much I liked them/still like them, they're just not essential anymore...

Don't worry, I think Julio's merely living up to his "Big Mouth" reputation I.e. talking shit. I've not read anything about the second Bad Lieutenant album being released under the New Order name. Unless he can come up with evidence?

And yet it's quite possible. They've been working on a new album since last year. So if they'll decide to continue as New Order after the October gigs, what would stop them to release it under NO? I honestly hope it would not be the case, but they have to do something with the completed recordings (maybe, save them for a 2019 extended edition of Never Cry Another Tear?).

I was thinking similar. Now that New Order members appear to be inter-changeable all bets are off.

Financially it would very tempting for Bernard to call the record in progress New Order. I assume as New Order it would be much easier as far as promotion and distribution. With Bad Lieu you have to worry about losing money.

I wonder how much Jake Evans is involved. If Jake Evans is as involved it probably should stay a Bad Lieu record.

If so then we may as well start the 'Barneys Being A Cunt' threads now....:(

Hopefully all will be clarified when Bernard does his next interview, could we honestly expect them to persist with BL if the two upcoming gigs are successful, leading to more shows next year and renewed interest in N.O. related activity.

Blimey, it's amazing the inside knowledge some fans have on here. Have any of you told Bernard, Steve and Gillian they're going to be touring beyond these 2 gigs and/or re-branding Bad Lieutenant's new material as New Order? Someone needs to tell them because that's clearly what will be happening; NOOL has spoken (!)

I'd laugh my arse off if they did these two charity gigs and then announced it was "a nice full stop for New Order" and then went back to Bad Lieutenant. It's not so far fetched

We are all equally in the dark, but we are free to speculate,it could well be a one off..or maybe perhaps not.. There seems to be no great enthusiasm here for the second BL album, other than a hope that it will be more electronic than the first (At least that is how it seems to me)
