Her profile lists her mood as "bummed". Translate that as you will.

One thing I did notice is that a normal 'no frills' ticket is $79 (just over 50 quid in UK money). A quick scan of other gigs suggest these sort of premium prices are not unusual in Oz, and it appears that a lot of bands charge a lot in the Antipodes. Any reason other than its so far away?

Pretty pricy here due mainly to distance travelled but also the relatively strong dollar ATM which doesn't help international acts - it's proving almost impossible to run a festival too with the Big Day Out being severely cut back in some states.

As a comparison of value for money to Hooky's show these are three noice gigs in town this week:

Portishead + Mercury Rev (can't wait!) $90 Flaming Lips $84 The National + The Walkmen $67

What entails in a Meet n Greet? Is it exactly that: "Hi"... "Hello"... "Are you gonna reform with NO?"... "maybe, but probably not"... Shake hands, now find your seat...

Might be worth the money if it was to be part of the after-party or pre-party or whatever, but if its a regular line for signing and shaking hands, $300 is outrageous...

Well you get an exclusive t shirt. I hope it's got a union jack on it with Joy Division written over the top.

Now that's a bargain.. two proper real bands. Not most of Monaco being JD.

If you look at the first post, it's not just a shake hands for that much money thing. That said I'm not really interested in these types of things.

nice, ill be at the adelaide show, a much better venue than her majesty'd theatre (where they played unknown pleasures), mind you, i havent been into HQ complex (formerly heaven in over 10 years).

Indeed it isn't, you don't have to queue - a blessed relief saving yourself a couple of minutes.

You also get a laminated pass though I doubt it will have access all areas on it.

Has there ever been a conversation in the PH/Light camp along the lines of "some people really might not like this"?

Gonna pass on this, would've considered it especially as it will be in Melbourne around the time of my 40th. However, the 'pay for meet + greet' is just one step too far; I don't care how many other bands do this, it's a greedy, shit idea that is far removed from what JD were all about.

I've never heard of any foreign bands that come here to play and do a paid meet and greet...maybe this is more common in other countries such as Australia etc?

I seem to remember that there were VIP packages with meet and greet included for the likes of Beyonce and such here, but not having cared about it I hadn't given it much thought. But not even for all of their likes.

Erm... what?

This makes absolutely no sense at all.

Are you really that desperate for a wind up that you're going to cut my sentences in half to make them seem incoherent?

This is where I am.

What's worse is the attitude of "if you don't like it, don't buy it and shut up / jog on."

JD/NO means/meant something to us - and this ain't it.

But if you don't buy a bargain like this you won't be jogging on, you'll be stood in a queue.

To he honest, a load of bands that I like myself have done this sort of thing before for gigs that I have wanted to go to, and every time I thought "that sucks", but that doesn't mean to say that I don't think people should be given the opportunity to do it if it's on offer and they want to. I didn't even know about it until I posted the press release on here... Just because a lot of people don't agree with it doesn't mean that other people won't do it and enjoy it. But the bottom line is that nobody has to buy a regular ticket for any show they don't want to go to, nevermind a more expensive "package" or whatever you want to call it. Some people will go for it, some people won't, different strokes for different folks, and thats fair enough.

And to clarify, the only reason I responded like that earlier in the thread was because I'm sick to the back teeth of sniping criticism from the same one guy who has absolutely no intention of ever going to any shows, let alone ones in Australia (which begs the question has he nothing better to do than post in here?), and is just doing it simply to act like a child in order to wind people up. And for me the sad thing about it all is that by responding like that I guess he wins.

FWIW I also don't agree with queue jumping priority tickets at places like Alton Towers.

The rich cunts can queue up with the rest of us. Maybe it's a Salford thing...

Bullshit. I've always said i will see the Light again, if they get round to doing NO albums. Mind you this astonishing money-grabbing attitude is beginning to lessen any enthusiasm I have for such an idea. The same for Freebass, who I have to say were a disappointment in London. Having spent a lot of cash over twenty five years pursuing NO, there are times when you wonder why do I bother. I will certainly bother with NO Ltd, as at least they appear to be doing it all with relative decorum and a dignified silence. If Barney was offering a meet n greet and putting up on here, I would be straight in there, lambasting it. The last time I met Peter it cost me a few chips in the Wimpy at Brixton, not $300.

As I've said before this is a fans forum, and people are entitled to criticise as well as praise. If you can't take the heat, etc. As the thread has borne out, I'm not a lonely voice out there, and find it amusing that I have to be singled out for something I'm sure many were thinking. So jog on, lad.

I think Kiss do it regularly, as you'd expect

You are more like a forum bully, you mainly criticize Peter Hook and the Light. As others have posted in this thread, a lot of bands are doing this now, because the promoters are offering these packages. This particular Australian promoter has been doing it for over a year. It's part of the deal.

It may be the difference between a band touring Australia, or not, as the costs of getting everyone here and equipment, from the other side of the World, are insane.

to anyone on the payroll perhaps, not interested in balanced forum opinion. A concerned observer to others, I imagine. If I hadn't have commented someone else would have, I can guarantee 100%.

Still astonished Jack put it up here.. should've left it on the website, where the disinterested would not have noticed. Still waiting for first person to say 'that's a great idea, I'll buy one'. :nonono:

To the Hook family singers.

Ignore the twats around here. Truth is:

99% of GenY/Z doesn't pay for music anymore. Bands only make their money from gigs, merch, and licensing. And good luck to them.

Looking forward to having you back in Oz. The last show in Brisbane was good fun. Are you inviting that bird and her boa back on stage then? :thumb:

Hey Jack, if you'd like to meet and greet some not- people in this town and enjoy some beer and seafood in the Queensland sun, I'll run a tab at the Breakfast Creek Hotel.

Best... D TransCom

As someone born in 1987, I don't know which generation I would be in. I do pay for CDs and such if I find it worthwhile, and I'm sure there's lots of young people around the world that would and do pay for the music they truly love (whether by buying the music, or going to their gigs if possible). And I thought bands back in the 1990s, 1980s and 1970s and before, made most of their money from touring and not just from album sales in itself. It may be even more like that these days, but I doubt most of the money in the 'music industry' back in those days mostly came from record sales alone---touring was and still is a major factor in money. I'm not personally criticising those who wish to go (whether just the gig or even the meet-and -greet).

Sorry for being a bit off topic.

Actually I've seen it change drastically, most young people I know (I'm gen of '73, they're some 10 years younger) don't buy music from bands they say casually like, usually they don't buy even music from their fayourite bandy anymore, they just wait for torrents to appear. But they still like to see live music. The thing is, behaviour such as paid meet&greets will only put them off music in the long run.

Bert aint no bully.. he just has an opinion...

I'm sure there are fans out there that would pay for a meet & greet and good luck to them if that's what they want and can afford it...

If anyone wants to meet me.. my rates are much cheaper and I'd give ya 1/2 hour of my time as long as you buy the drinks.. ;)

No Pervs or time wasters please....
