When I met Paul Banks we had a chat about Alex storming into the dressing room in Zurich and our favourite types of cake.

Just remembered that took place four years ago today. Wierd. Fucking cold in Munich.

I wouldn't be so quick to judge. As someone pointed out there's a good chance that this has been suggested by the promoter as a means of generating more $$$ to make the shows viable. There's a big outlay for the promoter in Oz to make this happen and all the risk is on him. The band will walk away with their fee whether 2 people show up to each gig or 200. if this is the type of thing that enables the shows to happen then fair play. Bands have done meet-and-greets for years, generally with competition winners granted but it's not something new or uncomfortable for them. I still remember the Manc Evening News in '98 having a photo of New Order on Page 3 'with competition winners' the day after the 'Temptation' gig.

@Al, that was a grand of Diageo's money, by way of 'sponsorship'. And even if it had come out my own back pocket it would have been worth it! 7 years ago though....fuckin' hell.....

The rules of engagement between an indie band and their cult like fan base (yes, I said cult) are different to that of your more typical pop act with their more excitable and youthful devotees.

I wonder if this lies at the root of the contention around Hook's latest income opportunity? Indie bands have to be a touch more careful about what they can and can't do, as image and perception in the eyes of their touchy die-hards are all important.

To understand the true impact of this decision we have to consider how many folk this would put off going to see The Light, not just on thus tour but ever, as well as how many packages are sold. Of course we'll never know the answer to first part of that. Depending on where you stand with this, should the tour have been declined if this additional feature was a deal maker for the promoter?

It's worth noting that many of the regulars on here see each other out and about at gigs etc and Burt is a popular and well respected member of that community. Kin ell, reads like a reference! Well when it comes to calling out bullshit on washed up musicians I'd give Burt the job everytime

Why thanks JG. That's another pint owed I guess.

To agree with your earlier point, I've been a proud fan of the coolest band on the planet for 25 years. That 'cool-ness' has been much to do with the aura they created and the large number of 'fuck-you's' they handed out to 'pop-culture', and the refusal to chase money over gaining critical success. I will be equally damning if New Order Ltd dare to cross that divide.

Good to hear Hooky & co are coming next year - welcome back! Look forward to seeing you guys again.

Btw I first came across those 'meet-and-greet' thingy last year when Gary Numan toured Oz ...I did scoffed at those stuffs initially after learning how much they cost eventhough I was a Numanoid myself waay baaack. To my surprise, those 'meet-n-greet' packages got sold out pretty fast, i think only 10 was offered to die-hard numanoids...mind you, the package did include an exclusive DVD of the concert not available to public in addition to all the usual meet, chat, signing, etc...

I def prefer those 'meet-and-greet'offered by bands such as Bloc party and Interpol where Kele & Co or Paul Banks or Carlos D would turn up at your local club with fans after the gig for a 'meet-and-get-drunk' together....

:D good times...:thumb:

I’m so fucking sick and tried of reading about the same old shit on here when it comes to Hooky. What, musicians aren’t allowed to make money anymore? I know, God forbid that they turn a profit. God forbid they offer a meet and greet! Holyshit, a meet and greet, all is not right now in the New Order/Joy Division world.

Come this is New Order Online………a meet and greet! That should be worth about 10 pages of Hooky bashing. New Order Online, the place where the universe stops and all the Hooky-Haters come to talk shit about Peter Hook. A place for people with special needs, like Burt! Special needs for a special lad. A lad who takes his Hooky bashing very serious! Very serious indeed. Congrats Burt, you have achieved something very, very special on this forum. You have shown you will not stand for a meet and greet. I commend you Burt, for being that very special (short bus wearing a helmet and knee pads kind of special) lad we all knew you were. I commend you Burt! Hooky is a Legend, and your well, a fucking nobody. Now put on your fuckoff shoes and stop acting like a little bitch over every little thing Peter Hook does!! BONG!!!!!

I think the comment from an Aussie underneath your post says it all. It wasn't a very popular move.

Yes it's not New Order Tribute Bands online………

Well as it was all done and dusted nearly a month ago, well done for dragging it up again and the further pages that will follow, I'm sure by the many many fans not too chuffed about it. Good man for doing that, Hooky will be well proud to read more of it.

Ironic coming from you Seth, hugely ironic. Very Manchester. :thumb:

As I said in another thread elsewhere, I will be doing one of his shows next year, as I did last year. Can't wait for the 'meet-n-greet'  . And a reminder once again this is Neworderonline, the place where such suggestions are ridiculed on a regular basis. Fortunately New order themselves didn't offer a 'meet-n-greet' package on Saturday night, or I'm sure they would have been in for the same treatment by many many people.

hooky has every right to make money but if he wants to go down the tribute band road he has to accept the ridicule of being in a tribute band. from a musicians point of view if the thought of never playing my own songs or writing new music came into my head id hang up the guitar with dignity intact.

Hooky rightly said in some interview years ago that the different between new order and the other bands was that they had class, without that they would have been lumped in with all those shitty electronic bands who came out of the 80s of whom most of them are doing nostalgia tours as we speak. its hard to say even now after all thats been said that hooky has more in common with the revival tours than punk electronic music but there you go.

How is standing up from a friend of mine ironic? Please show me any negative thing I have ever said about Hook? Oh there isn’t one, because I never have!

It was the irony of you suggesting I was a 'special needs' case.

Lots of people are learning to reluctantly let go, and none of us get a lot of pleasure out of it either. There is life after Joy Division lad. It's just on another thread, and just like in 1979 doesn't involve 'meet-n-greets', or Union Jack T shirts.

As i said.. well done for bringing this up again a month later. Hooky will be delighted that his 'special friend' has brought on a wave of negative comments that will no doubt follow.

Just as an aside, I understand that Hooky donated a sizeable amount of money to the reorder nominated charity over the weekend, and hats off to him for that.

There you go. Now was that so hard?

And in what world do you live in where I’m responsible for negative comments that other people make? So I guess you think guns kill people? Not people?

Sorry my man, didn’t know that these threads were time sensitive. Cheers for pointing that out to me!
